Why even have private WHOIS at that point then? Just scrap it altogether.
Is it possible to poison a mainstream model this way?

Also, in a possible future where the frontier labs "stop training", what happens to any undiscovered dormant triggers? Is it something they can patch away relatively cheaply and quickly?

Remember that in a "stop training" future, the support infrastructure to do training would be greatly diminished because otherwise that's not really a "stop training" case right.

Just get on with it and remove humans altogether. All this talk about bottlenecks is just to satisfy the oh so precious end users. If end users didn't exist (or had all their power taken away), then we wouldn't have this problem.
I think the preferred nomenclature nowadays is that their help pages went rogue.
Re:The End of Rationing on Monday October 19, 2026 @08:05PM (#50159655)
All this talk about removing bottlenecks at all costs, and we haven't even considered the final boss of bottlenecks: the end users themselves. All the gains will be a waste if the end users have a choice. And as "The Goal" has taught us, we must remove the further-most bottlenecks first. Hence, we must remove all choice and power from end-users first.

Tell me I'm wrong.

The free holiday will last forever. Make your plans accordingly.

Greetings Earthlings. Here's some math stuff. In exchange, we own your planet now. We weren't asking btw. tnx.
Is this serious? One would think that with the seriousness of the claim and the amount of money at stake, that the authors would at least take the time and effort to write the article, in an attempt to convince readers that their story is plausible. But it is just slop.

I think fully automated driving is not so far off. Once the technofascists have their utopia, they will just allow full self-driving vehicles in every road in the country and the people will deal with it regardless of actual capabilities.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

And thus, the Tech Bro has reached the final stage in its developmental lifecycle.

Must be nice to have unlimited tokens
I hate these kinds of documentaries. Even after being caught and punished, these wannabe larger than life con artists still get an exit. If school shooters shouldn't be plastered all over the news, then why are these people.
Re:How the Claude Code team does code review on Sunday October 18, 2026 @02:03AM (#50138320)
Interesting. That's like an exact same method on how they're advertising their finances. "Our expenses are irrelevant for the IPO"
Re:How the Claude Code team does code review on Saturday October 17, 2026 @03:55AM (#50128923)
Really? Hundreds of billions of dollars in debt is an improvement? The product that this code is supporting can't even pay for its debt.

Jesus. Give me 1 billion dollars and I'll keep your entire codebase in my head + personal notes for you until I die. Hell, I'll even force my descendants to do the same. Now _that's_ an improvement.

Re:Are we sleepwalking into World War III? on Saturday October 17, 2026 @02:04AM (#50128405)
This is just armchair posting, but there's just no other way "out".

Millions upon millions of disenfranchised young people with no where to go. Before 2019 those millions at least had the hope of moving to one of the still wealthier countries, which alleviated some of the pressure and anger back home. Now that pathway is increasingly more difficult and harder to justify, plus the people in the wealthier countries themselves are starting to feel the same anger and pressure, but have nowhere else to go.

All that pressure and anger will need to be directed somewhere, and I'm sure the leaders of such countries would prefer it goes outward than inward.

A bold strategy

A-fucking-men.

All this, so people like us can do a job that wasn’t that hard in the first place, and in reality was actually quite comfortable, for employers who are promising to lay us off, for productivity gains that aren’t even measurable.

Oh I'm surprised to learn that their engineers and scientists had 0% usage of their tools before!
Re:Non-Determinism Doesn't Matter on Thursday October 15, 2026 @11:53PM (#50113867)
The "determining" needs to happen elsewhere. Hint, it's a human somewhere. At best it's someone under your employ, or at worst it's some poor sap who's about to have a very bad day.

I agree with you, but I think what the parent is looking for is receipts.

Uhh I think you're missing a tiny 3 trillion dollar detail. I understand though, something that small and inconsequential is easy to overlook.

Re:Why We're Banning AI on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:02PM (#50108598)
Why does it matter what one tiny (and according to other comments, soon to be irrelevant) company decides to do?
Re:Market selloff, rising rates test AI data centre deal boom on Thursday October 15, 2026 @02:59PM (#50108546)
Wouldn't a "correction" be something _all_ AI users (not producers!) celebrate though? That would mean cheaper hardware and access to open models. The dotcom bubble keeps being compared, and the present we have now is a result of that post-dotcom bubble!

So I don't understand why there's fear and disagreement over a correction. Both sides should welcome it as there is some benefit to everyone. Well, most of everyone.

I believe the implication is that if AI is really The Second Coming (or First Coming, if you prefer), then banks would want to keep the debt and the potential gains of said debt. Or rather, there should be an overwhelming demand for said debt.
I hope she's shitting bricks right now.
Could this be a way to self-DDoS a botnet of IoT devices? Let them use up all resources doing inference for instructions to replicate to the next one forever.
Imagine you won an all expenses paid holiday to Bali. You get to stay at a resort for 6 months, with two rooms for you and your children. You are given a rental car for transport. You go to the beach every day. You eat restaurant food 3 times a day. Your rooms are made up by servants every day.

It feels so good, that you forget that this is just a holiday.

But at the same time it is absolutely real, you're experiencing it, other people at the resort are experiencing it (though maybe not at a similar level as you).

You love it so much you start planning with your partner about which school the kids should go to. You start planning your whole life in this paradise.

Oh man I wish a publication would go with that future headline. "If AI agents were supposed to replace working people, will they be footing the bailout bill as well?" hmm maybe it's a bit too long for a headline.

Not just India. Millions of young, able bodied, angry people, all of a sudden finding themselves not having anything else better to do. Sharing borders with countries who have their own millions of young, able bodied, angry people.
