How is this not terrorism if true?
Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:36PM (#50262750)
You run it to see if your military tactics will defeat the enemy and then you keep running it until you find a strategy that guarantees victory. Who cares if some sim lives are churned through the simulation, our lives are at stake!

Reductionist but I feel like that’s how it would go.

Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:32PM (#50262696)
Podcasting is going through the thousand cheap ads with the obnoxiously inserted interstitial ads. What they have accomplished is me unsubscribing to the worst offending podcast and beginning the journey of ad blocking on podcast with the help of whisper and LLMs. Also now I hate Shopify with the heat of a 1000 burning suns due to their obnoxious ads and the insane rate they get played.

So yea that one expensive ad would probably have a positive impact compared to a tidal wave of slop. Quality > Quantity after all.

To fine them and make them pay continuous taxes of course!

It’s like they learned nothing after Stable Diffusion 3
Re:Fingerprints Are the New Cookies on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:25AM (#50057802)
I came to my opinion through experience, I’m sorry you’re offended but I did say that I don’t imply that you’re a pedo but my stats sure show a pattern.

That does not change what I have dealt with. I am not a “JavaScript fanboy” remember I made a community that could work WITHOUT needing JavaScript and that lead to a bunch of grief for me which made me understand the extreme naivety of that original idealistic idea on the internet.

Re:Fingerprints Are the New Cookies on Monday October 12, 2026 @08:43AM (#50055609)
I used to believe in that and would make sure all of my sites would work without Javascript until one of my projects (a micro community) got targeted by pedotrolls which lead to an awful time and now I associate people who are staunch no JS as pedos, I am not accusing you or anything but that is the impression it left on me. Ever since then I really don't care if the site doesn't work without JS, and if users can post stuff damn straight Javascript will be involved.

Unfortunately this idealistic principle (no JS) attracts the worst people.

You're on Tor? You have JS disabled? I might as well warm up fbi.gov/investigate/cyber for the probable report I'll have to do...

That's pretty interesting, thanks for the clarification and elaboration!
I always found it interesting that lead is sweet. I always heard the meme he’s dumb because he ate (lead) paint chips as a child and I could never understand why a child would eat paint chips until I realized the paint chips were sweet because of the lead. Also apparently lead was used by the Roman’s as a sweetener. The only true taste I think you should count on when eating strange food is bitterness, if you don’t trust the food and you have a strong bitter taste, spit it out!
That’s 5 people over the span of 9 years. Imagine how much vanilla ice cream is consumed every year.
- my procedurally generated fashion e-shop that has infinite designs for various apparel

- a micro community that a core group of people chat on every day

Both on what used to be digital ocean $5 droplets. Once I find the time and energy I will migrate everything away from DO, the price was raised but the quality and speed of their servers stayed the same.

Interesting but nothing on that bike felt like it was the cheapest, still one of the best rides I had even 20 years later.
Re:Shimano Bicycle Museum Review on Friday October 02, 2026 @06:45AM (#49932026)
I had a Shimano bike as a teenager and it was great, the breaks were amazing and I loved riding it until it got stolen right in front of a bank security guard. I still think about the bike.
Re:DraftKings Uses A.I. To Target the Gamblers Likeliest to Lose on Saturday September 19, 2026 @10:03AM (#49766685)
There is a special place in hell waiting for these people and everyone who helps enable their greed and the misery they produce. I bet their system also finds who is likeliest to win and finds a reason to ban them like casinos have been doing.

Great let’s install a bunch of cameras in and around your house and live stream it on the web 24/7. You can be a great first case study. You have nothing to hide right, so you should have no issues with this.
Ukraine and Iran are proving that is not true. A drone is cheap and the AI required to run it is no where near as demanding as running a massive LLM.

The problem is they are too cheap, a drone that cost a couple thousand can wipe out millions of dollars of “defense”.

An AI that generates text will never be scary to me. An autonomous AI with facial recognition on a flying drone with weapons (bombs/guns) with swarming capabilities will always be terrifying. I feel like we are ignoring the massive elephant in the room.

Re:Free Image Upscale on Monday August 31, 2026 @08:18AM (#49508765)
So what upscaling model are you using?
Re:How to build a diffusion language model on Monday August 31, 2026 @04:46AM (#49507192)
I think it would make training take much much longer but the models would be able to tell you how many Rs are in strawberry.

Sometimes things overflow and you don't want scrollbars popping in and out.
So what you're saying is we should use linux?

An online game for example.
Re:Flat Chair by Sara Paculdo on Friday August 21, 2026 @07:31AM (#49386549)
I wish they had shown a real version of the chair with a real human sitting on it.
Maybe they should pay their programmers to fix the audio bug in their iOS app. I can't listen to my podcasts and use the facebook app at the same time because it wants to mute the podcast to play nothing, even with the phone on silent and autoplay disabled the facebook app just randomly mutes my podcasts for no reason making me not want to use the app.
Re:Worms: The Future of Yesterday's Worms Today on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @05:34AM (#49269812)
I remember bringing worms 1 on a diskette to my schools computer lab and playing with classmates, we all got hook and had good times. Then Worms Armageddon came out many days after school were enjoyed blasting each other with bazookas, sheep and holy hand grenades.
Ignorance is bliss.
