Sadly these relatively recent price bumps on hardware have made on-prem a bit of a harder sell for some.

Definitely do so, please! I happened to stumble upon Sythe more than a decade ago but never participated.

And here I was thinking of Trailblazers Into the March.
Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @04:51AM (#50101017)
> Length is just an attempt to be less wrong

Don't know if it was intended but there's something to be said about the discussions happening at length on www.lesswrong.com and I felt I had to acknowledge your penmanship.

On the actual topic I for one think some people like reading themselves just as much as hearing themselves thus they're writing for their own audience of one.

Re:LittleJS is 2D and 3D now on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @01:17PM (#50091224)
It's interesting that while gamers are pretty critical of games made with AI/LLM assistance there are some game developers really going full steam ahead (pun intended) with coding agents for game development.

The website redesign is incredibly cool too, sure it starts the fans on my potato of a laptop (and stutters a bit) but it runs well enough that it's actually made me interested to give it a go.

I'll save everyone a click and encourage them to check it out too, not just the blog post:

https://littlejsengine.com/

EDIT: And it looks like there's an ongoing jam for it too, mentioned in the blog post:

The "footnotes to Plato" quote is more about the idea that Philosophy doesn't exist in a vacuum rather than just scoring brownie points with peers studying the same thing.

I had a longer written reply but it turned out pretty snarky. In my opinion Philosophy is built upon just like Mathematics otherwise most people can't meaningfully engage.

Re:Pi Durable on Friday October 02, 2026 @03:52AM (#49930947)
From what I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Pi/Earendil is VC-backed so it's just a matter of time really. I don't see any other end game for them as a company other than being acqui-hired. In this regard I have more faith in something like Zed (the code editor, VC-backed too) to retain their "independence".

Pi is alright but it's only virtue so far is being the Neovim of harnesses, minimal yet (incredibly) extensible. That being said it's still early days and unclear how the whole landscape regarding agentic stuff will play out at various different levels. For example I prefer stuff like Claude Code and Pi but I've seen a friend use Kiro at work with some crazy workflows all basically structured around Markdown files, spec writing, ingesting tickets from Jira and then validating/testing the code written automagically.

Nice! I've seen it around on the Nim forums. Is it terminal only or do you plan to make use of Nim's JavaScript backend at some point to make a web UI too?
Yep, check out PlayTika's slew of games for an example. They're a pretty large company specializing in this kind of stuff.

The one time a similar mascot to FreeBSD's would've made sense.
Re:Using any C++ library in Godot on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @07:23AM (#49891379)
Came here to mention this. As an example there's godot-iroh which uses iroh for peer to peer networking:

https://github.com/tipragot/godot-iroh

When I was younger and I heard the saying along the lines of "struggling against the indifference of the universe" I didn't realize at the time it included people too.
Re:Improving site performance by shipping more CSS on Sunday September 27, 2026 @10:34AM (#49866979)
I'm still a bit salty they fiddled with the Lists UI when star'ing a repo and adding it to a list.

The emojis I had at the beginning of the list name don't render anymore (they show up as :eyesore_emoji_name: instead) and the list is sorted alphabetically now instead of by last modified. Also it's one looong list instead of a small scroll-able container like it used to be.

This is on Firefox btw. Now I'm seriously thinking about moving these GitHub "bookmarks" into a separate place like a bookmark manager even if I lose a bit of convenience.

Re:F-Droid 2.0: A New Chapter for Android Freedom on Thursday September 24, 2026 @01:50PM (#49834331)
The Emacs version for Android makes uses of something like this IIRC by signing a version of Termux with the same key and distributing it in the same SourceForge repo such that Emacs on Android can access CLI tooling like git for example.
These days I can say the same, I used to enjoy trying to minimize my mouse usage and fiddling with tiling window managers but now I just can't be bothered.

And the weird thing is that the type of mental effort required is not even a useful one per se, it's more like a strain (to me) than something that makes me sharper.

Still some things are easier in a GUI while others in a CLI, just depends on their nature and how often do you have to engage with them. But after a while navigating windows by Alt+Tab (Alt+`) or the mouse is fine really. I don't care to reach for Super+PgDown/PgUp when I can move my mouse to the corner of the screen and scroll to change the workspace.

Huh, and I thought "stealth-mode" for startup founders was a meme. Turns out a form of it started percolating around.
Re:Small Programming Tricks on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @02:36PM (#49731112)
Yep, crop dusting knowledge in a public space without at least tying it to something relevant is a faux pas in my book.

Offering to teach someone something proactively? Sure, go ahead.

Sharing stuff freely when asked and arming someone with the tools to investigate further? Amazing!

Treating a public channel like ye olde facebok wall? Mildly annoying.

Re:Lazygit on Saturday September 05, 2026 @06:32PM (#49581358)
Same as with the tmux.app website. I looked around and I don't understand who's making these vibecoded websites.

That's why you make sure to put that institutional knowledge in AGENTS.md /s
Cloudflare Workers and HTMX also pair up well.
I know right? On Linux for example GNOME needs an extension and only KDE seems to have a handy toggle available from the get go. It seems the normal is to NOT make a feature like this easily available.
Re:Htmx 4.0.0 has been released on Saturday August 29, 2026 @10:17AM (#49490104)
Same here team rust/datastar though I still can't decide between minijinja and maud for templating.

Re:Omacom Foundation funding hits $10M on Monday August 24, 2026 @08:52AM (#49419083)
So a fancy window manager and a desktop environment (toolkit) in its infancy?
Re:Omakase Computing on Monday August 24, 2026 @08:42AM (#49418968)
Yeah... KDE, GNOME and soon COSMIC will be fine for most people. Ricing IS fun but this is more similar to taking a kitted out car that used to belong to your cousin to the car meet, part of the culture is stumbling around forums and asking around. There's been stuff in the past like Regolith that did similar things but now a semi-famous person is spearheading this so everybody wooos and ahhhs.

Yes, I am salty.

Neovim users proving once again they're the equivalent of BMW drivers /s
Oh that's pretty cool! I also like how you can bookmark timers to save them and then keep a list of them for various activities/purposes.

Also when I saw the HN post I knew something was familiar and I remembered an old project of yours: x[it]!

From time to time I still think about that one. Are you still engaging with x[it] or have you moved on in a sense?

Re:That time when I failed the Microsoft interview on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @10:03AM (#49169178)
Yeah, it's weird (to me and you at least) why people bother quizzing industry veterans. After 10 years in the workforce you should be able to talk shop about various experiences you had at work (NDA permitting) and drop down to technical details where appropriate. Yet some companies or interviewers insist on techniques that could be replaced with asking the potential hire to eat boogers on camera for a stronger signal of what they're actually looking for.

Unrelated but what do you use to manage your personal website? I love how everything is interconnected.
