Pretty addictive , spend a few hours with it today on the tab in and out
Why would I work on the open tho ? The reason you always get that answer is because it's the norm. I am paid to develop software for a business like the majority of people I suppose.

Outside of my work I spend time with my family as I stare at screens enough during the day.

Maybe if you asked 20 years ago I'd be able to share some of my passion projects, unforutnately AI didn't exist back then

Why are you so aggressive ? What I am saying is how many folks are working nowadays and DHH gives an example of this in his linux distro and in his interview talking about his products.

Maybe try it out with an open mind ?

Do you expect me to break my work contract to convince a stranger on the internet that they're wrong ? lol

What is a shiller ? lol

You can look at people who are building on the public like this, for example, DHH with https://omarchy.org/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYFGCESmikA

I work in private software that I cannot share, but it's for a company you have heard of

Not really, no.

People come and go, documentation isn't great.

It's no different.

If I need to understand complex codebase with thousands of humans touching nowadays I am asking AI anyways

What's the problem of the solution proposed ? Don't read/write code anymore. Have strong harness. That's how my team of ~30 has been operating for the most part.

The problem we are trying to solve was never to write code, was to solve business problems

Re:Ask HN: What do you expect from the next 5 years of AI? on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @03:09PM (#49806550)
Robots / physical AI displacing workforce
Re:Claude Is a Contrarian on Monday September 14, 2026 @04:01PM (#49703093)
Are you sure is not just your bubble ? That's not all the impression that I get
Sure ! I have been doing this for 2 decades now and started my career in VHDL / Hardware before going to embedded systems and then cloud. I am pretty sure I can understand hand code pretty well. I just don't need to write it. Why would it.
Why is your identity tied to writing code ? That reads a bit weird to me at least.

You're being paid to solve business problems, not to write code. Now you can do it without writing code.

Maybe try to form a different identity ? I wouldn't ever define my identity (not before AI) as someone who writes code.

Re:The August 17 outage, and the work ahead on Thursday August 20, 2026 @09:24PM (#49382527)
Configuring postgres to automatically failover instead of doing it manually. The automated system caused more downtime in a few months than manually doing it did for years before. All in the name of more automations and less downtime
Re:99% of My Website Traffic Is Bots on Friday August 07, 2026 @01:03PM (#49213354)
Why not ? Can google be trusted ? Or facebook ? How do people have been accessing the internet for the last decade you reckon and how's this any different ?
Re:99% of My Website Traffic Is Bots on Friday August 07, 2026 @12:31PM (#49212905)
Why do you feel that ?
Re:Taste Is All That's Left on Thursday August 06, 2026 @09:49PM (#49205023)
How would you count them or even know if they were made with AI or not ? Such nonsense
Re:Taste Is All That's Left on Thursday August 06, 2026 @09:47PM (#49204994)
Of course yes, and it's even easier in some cases. Since there's a language that defines the functionality (e.g: formal methods) that the agent can use/veriy against
Re:Taste Is All That's Left on Thursday August 06, 2026 @09:45PM (#49204983)
You can have another agent write the tests and verify the former agent ? This is pretty basic stuff. Makes me question if people are actually trying to use AI
Re:Taste Is All That's Left on Thursday August 06, 2026 @09:44PM (#49204976)
Lol. That's not true at all. And not how projects are done on startups or big companies.

Execute fast or get nowhere, a series of small wins get you to live long term.

If you're using Windows you're likely not the audience. Which is fine.
Re:Ask HN: What home printer do you use/recommend? on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @07:05PM (#48652788)
Staples. I have a broken Canon now and before had a broken HP. Both were dirty cheap. I imagine how much the environment suffers from broken printers alone.

I am not buying a new one. Only going to stores to print.

Re:Job application asked for my SAT scores on Monday June 22, 2026 @09:22PM (#48638933)
lol I know, I applied for them around 4-5 years ago and thought it was a joke... I did the first part which was some gimmic IQ tests and then I had to write an essay (which I didn't) !
Re:Job application asked for my SAT scores on Monday June 22, 2026 @08:18PM (#48638438)
You basically described Canonical's hiring process !
Re:Ask HN: Are most corporate SWE jobs performative? on Thursday June 11, 2026 @04:42PM (#48496143)
question bank ?! lol, no wonder people complain about being performative.

If you have nothing to talk about, cancel it

Re:Ask HN: Are most corporate SWE jobs performative? on Thursday June 11, 2026 @04:39PM (#48496098)
Really depends on the team etc. I don't think every team needs to have 1-1, certainly not weekly as a mandate.

The best cultures I worked at didn't have 1-1 series by default

No. Because the investment to get into the game is too big and takes too long. The ones who can create the silicon are already oversubscribed.
great question, probably around 1998 ! How is it relevant to 2026 ?
Right, so I have to do manual work going over 10000000 of results ? Or trusting SEO / google algorthm instead ?
That hasn't been my experience. It has been working really well for what I need.

SEO optimization totally ruined google search for me for the past few years

How do you make it without AI ? Are you parsing through millions of pages yourself ?
I don't disagree with you, but google search has gone so downhill that I had stopped using it before they moved to the AI approach, which is actually pretty decent.
"Next 5y" doesn't apply to AI factories
