Re:Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @01:53PM (#50170095)
Yes, this guy’s whole life and workflow for teaching to a large class was based around his iPad having a basic feature. If you don’t lecture to students using an iPad, probably you do have different problems.

Try storyteller. It’s an awesome app that does the whispersync thing where you get the audiobook and ebook together, can switch between the two and not lose place, can read both at the same time where the ebook underlines what’s being said. All self hosted though so you need to have a way to…obtain drm free e/audio books.
Only 200$? That’s way less than they charge me!
What are you talking about? Plenty of countries have socialized healthcare and education.
I’m on tirzepatide right now from Eli lily, and I’ve been very interested in Reta, but I can’t say that I jump at the chance to inject something into myself that hasn’t been tested directly on the actual thing I’m about to put into my body. I know there are testing companies that will test certain sources but it’s not like they’ve tested the vial you get. If there’s some kind of pathogen or bacteria or whatever in the vial you get, well, there’s no recourse: it was “for research use only”. That seems like an unacceptable risk, but I see so many people on the internet claiming miraculous results. Maybe if I knew someone in real life, but I know those biohacking subreddits and such are astroturfed to no end by companies looking to sell sketchy peptides.
Re:AI is removing the middle class of software engineering on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @06:58PM (#49279725)
So far my experience has been management shoving ai haphazardly down the throats of any semi technical person across the board, resulting in a fragmented hodgepodge of vibe coded frameworks and “ai apps” that pile on more requirements for more human attention to make those apps at least look superficially functional to management, than actual reductions in man hours saved by those vibe coded crApps.

I believe wholeheartedly that things like Claude code bring immense value but to management types they aren’t visible enough to prove their “ai first” narratives resulting in a bunch of crap they have us build that look and seem smart but in fact are just slop we have to deal with the consequences of. Good for job security I guess, but I’m getting pretty tired of it all.

Public housing is the answer to this.
I may or may not meet your definition as a nimby 28 year old. I am all for housing, just not the type being built in my area. Dozens of “luxury” units built cheaply, selling for 4,000$ for a 1 bedroom. They get subsidized by the local government for including maybe 5 units that are “low income” and probably still cost 2k - and those low income units go away as soon as the building gets sold to another corporation.

I want lots of high quality, dignified housing for myself and my community, not wealth extraction pods. I want real public housing. Housing should be a human right. As it stands now the land is being squatted by mega corporations seeking to extract as much profit from the community as possible.

Re:The AirPods Effect on Saturday June 20, 2026 @01:04PM (#48610849)
AirPods have a transparency mode and are also fda approved hearing aids now. For some folks it is actually safer to wear them than to not wear them.
Will we? I don’t think new capacity will come online for several years and at the current rate there’s not a lot of evidence that the new capacity won’t simply be scooped up by the big data centers like they are now. At the very least we’re in for a rough 4 years at least

It means expanding your empathy. If you don’t do art, I highly recommend it. I talk to random people and learn more about the human condition and incorporate it into my songwriting.

Re:The AirPods Effect on Friday June 19, 2026 @02:51PM (#48601852)
That’s sad man - I also talk a lot to strangers and yeah most of the time you get average people, but then you meet that one in a million person and learn something truly fascinating or expand your sphere of knowledge or emotion or art or whatever. I’m always on the lookout for the next brilliant engineer, sensitive artist, or just a well read janitor.
Re:The AirPods Effect on Friday June 19, 2026 @02:38PM (#48601713)
I have a family member who works substantially on some of the main design/components of the AirPods who might have a different take. He wears them all the time but, as this article fails to mention, with transparency mode on. Thanks in large part to my family member, we are able to hear the outside world through the AirPods just fine and our brains are able to process the audio coming in as real time and not disorienting.

Thanks to this mode the AirPods have now been certified as hearing aids and many other friends and family members have said the same thing: that the AirPods are better hearing aids than actual prescription hearing aids (which usually cost absurd prices)

I talk to those people with those AirPods in as if they have no AirPods in at all, and thanks to those AirPods they are able to hear me better.

This is all a matter of perspective and comfort ability with adopting new paradigms and technologies. You need not see everything from the perspective of “technology bad”.

Re:Why I email complete strangers on Monday June 15, 2026 @07:22PM (#48548442)
I’m curious to hear about why talking to strangers is troublesome for you? For me maybe when I was younger but these days I just treat everyone like an old friend. What kind of pitfalls do you run into? Just a general sense of anxiety?
Lmao but the first part of your comment really shows the true reason other countries don’t have shootings…because they regulate guns….

So yea maybe some super rare cases of ssri aggression are real but by your own admission the solution to it is gun control.

Re:Turkey Hacked the Hair Transplant Industry on Wednesday June 03, 2026 @04:55PM (#48389906)
The side effects of finasteride are wildly overstated, millions of people take it without any issue, myself included
Re:Turkey Hacked the Hair Transplant Industry on Wednesday June 03, 2026 @04:54PM (#48389895)
You don’t? Are you okay with what it’ll look like once you lose the hair behind your transplant? Folks who get a HT who don’t get on meds will have a weird crescent hairline and then no hair behind it. Feels like at that point just don’t get the transplant in the first place.
Re:Last.fm is now independent on Wednesday May 27, 2026 @04:18PM (#48300009)
I can’t stand streaming and wanted to get off all streaming services and now self host every single piece of my digital media. Last.fm is an important component for the music side of my services in order to use the last.fm api to track listens and provide recommendations.
Re:Is "colorectal cancer" rising in "young people"? on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @03:13PM (#48284500)
I’ve been getting scared of psyllium due to lead risk. Any thoughts?
Re:Is "colorectal cancer" rising in "young people"? on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @02:42PM (#48283990)
Plenty of canned things that don’t have added sodium or oil though.
Re:Is "colorectal cancer" rising in "young people"? on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @02:39PM (#48283950)
Risks? The risks of a colonoscopy are crazy low though.

Yeah, what? Increasingly worried this site is bots talking to bots.

Re:Star Citizen game has reached $1B in funding on Sunday May 24, 2026 @10:08PM (#48262812)
I remember being in high school, so excited about star citizen coming out as soon as I get to college. College was 5 years ago, and I’m still waiting. The promise of this game is so unbelievably enticing but I’ve given up on it.
You really think he got murdered?
That last bit is false, you are conflating Zionism and Judaism. Plenty of non weird non colonizer non Zionist Jewish folks.
Re:The Biochemical Beauty of Retatrutide: How GLP-1s Work on Thursday May 14, 2026 @06:15PM (#48141985)
Yeah, I hear everyone talk about it like it’s just super easy to get…
What a nasty, small minded, ignorant comment to make.
This is a pretty naive post. First, Russia has nukes. You say Iran can’t have a nuke because dictatorships “tend toward escalation” yet in the same breath mention Russia who has nukes and does not use them against Ukraine. How about North Korea? They have nukes have they “escalated”?

You say Iran is “dangerously close” to a nuke. Do you know this has been said for decades at this point? Do you remember Netanyahu’s ridiculous bomb picture from like 2009?

Did you know Iran specifically had a religious policy AGAINST nukes, a fatwah? So most of your premises are wrong and most importantly, paradoxically:

In fact if Iran had the weapon, the whole region would be MORE secure.
