thank you for the detailed answer, this is all very interesting to me as I'm just starting a Masters in AI. I always had the wrong idea that LLMs couldnt be made deterministic. Now that I know they could be this opens up more possibilities for me.

maybe this is what will get people to use grok or chinese models. At some point they're too restrictive. Claude refused to help me scrape a public website they themselves have gotten their info from..

"The Catholic church only allowed mass to be delivered in a language other than Latin in the 1960s" this statement is factually wrong.

Re:Why Were Victorian Elites So Effective?
on Thursday October 08, 2026 @09:08AM (#50005398)
you're wrong the church originally did the Mass in Rome in Greek and it allows it in several other languages in other regions from the beginning. When the Mass was changed to latin in Rome it was the speaking language of the people. Learning latin was about important for most of the western history because pretty much every important book was written or translated to Latin

Depends on the complexity of the task. And how fast I want it solved. If I wanted solved fast I use a better model (Sol), If I can afford some time I use Terra (I use terra for most coding things). If it is something super simple like changing a css class I use Luna.

Re:Learning Another Language May Be One of the Best Ways to Keep Your ...
on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:11PM (#49790159)
in order to become really proficient in a language you have to spend 1000s of hours. if you're doing it just as a hobby that's fine but if you don't have a clear goal you're likely not going to advance much. For a hobby that might be fine but I think most people want to get to at least B2 in another language since they're spending so much time in it. I do agree learning should be fun watching content you like in your language for example but you also have to take it seriously to persevere
Re:Learning Another Language May Be One of the Best Ways to Keep Your ...
on Saturday September 19, 2026 @12:20PM (#49767802)
you need serious motivation to learn a new language. First ask yourself if you have a really good reason otherwise you will give up. I, for example learned english because I needed for work. But I wouldn't dive into learning another language unless I'm going to engage with it in some form every day

pretty much anywhere in America (the continent) you're welcome to migrate to. We don't care as long as you respect the locals and the local culture
