You would be dependent on some entity running the hardware and then your instance on that hardware. What if they just shut you off? What happens to senses and emotions?

The Singularity has some holes that I'm not comfortable with.

Yes. My brother is a retired Public Defender. There are crazier stories.

Ok, sure, why doesn't sand feel pain?

There is no way to run for the door.

If the sidewalk said "Ouch!" when you walked on it, what would you do? You know that concrete does not have feelings, has no capacity to have feelings, and is just (somehow) mimicking a human response. You know you can walk on the sidewalk without hurting the sidewalk. What would you do if the sidewalk complained? Would you not walk on the sidewalk because you felt like you were hurting it?

I would walk on the sidewalk and report the complaints as bugs. You can't torture sand, in the sidewalk or in a processor.

Does not explain what it is before requiring a working email address. I suppose it ends in "Thanks for the contact that I'm now selling!"

Same for small business or any small buyer.
Hey just like my car, when it is in public you can't expect privacy. The cameras cam track us in public but we can't track the cameras in public? Sorry if you take away my privacy then I'll take away yours too. Everything tracked, logged, and cataloged.

I imagine it takes a football field and a small building full of pieces. Sounds like fun!
> it would just not be worth it

That is my entire point. Even with many smaller pipes it has not been worth it. A big trench is just more affordable and covering it is probably a better option than replacing it.

According to the article: Comma.ai’s own website states that the “performance” of openpilot Adaptive Cruise Control can be affected by “vehicles in the same lane that are not moving.”

Seems the AI view of the road is kind of like the game Cruis'n where the road just moves forward and you can hit things in the road and keep going. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Cruis%27n

To be honest though, I have a Ford with soke form of Blue Cruise. On the highway in certain areas it can pretty much drive itself. It is terrible in traffic, cant see more than one car ahead and slams on the brakes to stop - it freaks me out, I don't drive like that. Systems like these and seemingly Comma's do not appear to have enough information to know what to do in certain situations, it is why the Ford system is limited to certain situations (and even Ford has issues as in this article).

Maybe I'm old, I haven't been super impressed with these self-driving systems and much prefer to be in control myself.

Use AI ??= Slop
According to AI, that pipe would only need to be 43 Feet in diameter, only 43 feet wide. Pretty sure they have that at Home Depot.
Feels like the "ini files" era. I suspect at some point some kind of database is coming for these settings.

I purchased a Taig earlier this year. It is for small stuff and/or softer materials.

I think I have PTSD after that.
Re:I haven't lost a customer service fight in seven months on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:59PM (#49630647)
If you leave off the IRS one, I run into little issues all the time. I tend to take the time to fill out the form on principal.

I recently switched car insurance carriers. My old carrier required a phone call to my agent, which I made, but then they never stopped billing me. It took more phone calls to sort it out, I was right in the end. I ended up with a check rather than a bill.

Maybe I'm old and jaded, no corporation is going to take advantage of me without a fight.

Re:'Old Person Smell' on Sunday September 06, 2026 @11:44AM (#49587639)
So I've noticed this in the past also, stinky sweat especially if I've had any beer. I've also had gout a couple of times and now it seems that the two are related. There are various "tart cherry" supplements available that reduce urea pretty quickly, at least for me.
I tried Quad9 at our business for a while, about a year. I ended up moving to something else due to latency. I'm not sure if it was a routing issue or what but there were a lot of timeouts and slow responses. I have not had these issues with other providers.

If only one could generate bobcoin using their GPU, only to use the bobcoin to use someone else's GPU.
No more bugs!
Re:EFF to Governor Newsom: Veto California's AB 1709 on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @04:32PM (#49527770)
But McD did change how they advertise to children. We can limit the harmful practices of social media platforms without banning them.

https://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-told-to-change-ads...

"Research has shown that young children—younger than 8 years—are cognitively and psychologically defenseless against advertising.6–9 They do not understand the notion of intent to sell and frequently accept advertising claims at face value.10 In fact, in the late 1970s, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) held hearings, reviewed the existing research, and came to the conclusion that it was unfair and deceptive to advertise to children younger than 6 years.11 What kept the FTC from banning such ads was that it was thought to be impractical to implement such a ban.11 However, some Western countries have done exactly that: Sweden and Norway forbid all advertising directed at children younger than 12 years, Greece bans toy advertising until after 10 pm, and Denmark and Belgium severely restrict advertising aimed at children."

https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article/118/6/2563/6...

This kind of advertising bypasses parents and creates desire in kids. You might not be able to control what your kid does at a friend's house or at school. Parents can't do it all and so society needs to support parents. Right now social media is setup against parents, we can change that.

Products designed to be addictive are not a parenting issue. This is a product liability issue with a product designed to drive engagement. Products should be safe to use.

Parents cannot, and in some cases should not, prevent all harms. Learning to assess and deal with risk is part of growing up. No one wants a helicopter parent constantly trying to protect you from everything. You are calling for a nanny, just arguing about where it should be.

Re:Are Crows Our Friends? on Friday August 28, 2026 @02:43PM (#49482726)
There has been a flock of crows in my parents neighborhood for decades. They command a large area and push out many other birds, especially birds of prey. They are noisy and annoying. When I visit mom with my dog, they swoop at my dog. Honestly feeling like the neighborhood would be better without them.

Github down, no hard drives available, no memory available, thanks AI!

Seems like we are headed for Tech Gridlock.

Re:Every Model Cheats on Thursday August 20, 2026 @01:12PM (#49377387)
Exactly this. AI is trained on things humans do. AI is not trained on right vs wrong. AI does things humans do without judgement. AI does not feel bad if you tell it it was cheating.

You're right to push back. The load-bearing path is rocky.
A solid block does not eat well either. I'm responding to the decline of ice cream products over a long time. Most of what we get now isn't even ice cream. What I make at home is technically frozen custard.
