I really enjoy using this library. Thank you team!

Where advice would you offer to someone with long-running R-Scripts? Spark?
Re:Sundar Pichai Should Resign as Google’s C.E.O on Saturday August 12, 2017 @10:14AM (#14997945)
It’s suspiciously alt-right in tone. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn he posts or follows t_d

I’ve seen several people miss the point on this termination.

You don’t make your boss look bad. That’s it. California is an at-will employment state.

This really did not seem like an appropriate interview for a PhD.
Unit tests, while not the prescription for everything, do tend to be important in some domains.

Just because you can raise money doesn't mean you should. I find video extremely distracting on a daily basis and avoid it at all costs. You may not feel the same.
Re:Making plain water taste similar to soda or juice on Friday February 17, 2017 @09:18PM (#13673273)
Are you locked into their ecosystem or have you pursued alternative means of adding CO2? I've read an article here and there that attempts to prove simply buying the water from the store is cheaper over time.
Re:Elon Musk is boring a tunnel to skirt gridlock on Thursday February 16, 2017 @09:35AM (#13660105)
If you know 285 has an extra lane now, you'll go ahead and run that errand at a certain time that perhaps you wouldn't have otherwise. Fascinating stuff.

I get the feeling we're supposed to be breaking up with Elon Musk. Slowly of course.

Let's not pretend this "Free Press" is made up of a collection of idealistic self-starters with permanently furrowed brows.

Good for him on calling out purveyors of Fake News such as CNN.

I hate almost everything relating to culture. I have bills to pay and I don't particularly care that you have some flavor of Street Fighter II. Tell me what stack you use, the pay, and if you'll pay for my gym membership.
The answer to this "problem" isn't fair to a generation that was never taught life isn't fair. So we'll continue to get articles like this I guess.
Because being in the Valley is magical for your company, or something.
Re:Angular vs. React on Friday February 10, 2017 @05:11PM (#13619357)
It was an interesting read, but I've not had great luck scaling large apps in ng 1.5. State management gets out of control very quickly.

Can it be done? Absolutely! Did it stop me from switching from React + Redux?

Nope!

This is a lot of hyperbole given the revelations of the last administration.
Re:How Trump Plans to Slow Our Internet to a Crawl on Wednesday February 08, 2017 @06:18AM (#13597412)
How can I filter these out?
It appears that was the point. It's not like he sailed in and viciously took advantage of everyone. I suspect this is on HN for a very specific reason.
HR Tech in the Southeast.

I don't have anything to offer in the way of specific tech skills. I simply look for someone that is inquisitive, extracts satisfaction from solving problems in elegant ways, and has a strong motive to better themselves.

These qualities, and a few others, tend to transcend tech stacks and techniques of the week.

My most successful interviews have come through chatting with a candidate in an informal setting, presenting hypothetical situations that were actually challenges we've faced in the past here and there in the conversation.

I dropped the whiteboard and puzzle thing a long time ago and I've never had better engineers.

YMMV

(I do ask to see some code beforehand)

There are significant differences in the two companies and how they approach privacy, so yes.

I've very much enjoyed Bear.

Evernote? I don't think about you at all.

They're in Qatar.
