This is a proposal to operate a regulated payments processor, supervised by BaFin. All the usual, necessary regulations and consumer protections will apply under German law.

Thank you so much for reminding me! I had kind of given up but your comment prompted me to check again and it turns out Bandai Namco recently put all the original soundtracks on streaming. Na na na na na na na na …
It is not just company policies, this reflects the law across the EU.
Ugh. Trying to get something running with openRewrite at work.

A private, authenticated repo is going to be a spanner in the works since now it means setting up and maintaining custom stuff in Artifactory, and getting that sponsored.

Depends on the infra, and the level of anxiety generally and specifically.

Petty vandalism no, but I’ve worked at a few and know more completely non-military business premises that absolutely have “military barricade” or the like quietly in their contingency plans.

Funny thing is, a bit of arson is kind of normal on their estates. But usually it’s just stolen cars.

It’s quite a take to make lan sharing some kind of grand conspiracy. Is LAN manager sus too?
The company that runs it is
I works assume if/when something really kicks off the starlink and starshield networks would be high priority targets.

(I’m mildly curious what their ground stations in Central Europe look like from this perspective).

I quite like the way passports touch on this - the electronic part has a password; that password is made up of info from the printed data page - so you need both sets of information to validate it.
Windows is too at this point; it’s just a little less obvious.
Re:Escape IntelliJ: Scala and Kotlin LSPs on Emacs Eglot on Thursday July 23, 2026 @05:08AM (#49018790)
I think Jetbrains did that already; the Kotlin LSP server is derived from the (also open source) IntelliJ plugin
Curse Apple and their planned obsolescence /s.

I’ve seen bugs like this in prod systems. The notional value of the error tends to make the people concerned anything but silent.
They do. You just seem to expect that it will somehow be free.
This always irritates me, because it used to be just like that. First time we bought Jira, it was like a (small ) one-off charge on someone’s card, and included full source code to let you build it yourself.

Sure it does.

Just tap ‘More Info’ to show them

This is kind of an interesting contrast with BSH (Bosch and Siemens home appliances ), who are also German.

They appear to have seen making their Home Connect platform open as at least in part a matter of compliance with EU data transparency and portability laws.

Retaliating against someone for asserting their legal rights also gets way riskier what they have already won in litigation.
Why are you misrepresenting about UK law?

Yes, it can be a criminal offence. But the maximum tariff for this under RIPA 2000 is five years. If it’s not about nation security or CSAM, it’s two.

(Incidentally, the USA is a real outlier in this topic)

This is one reason why you bury power cables.

Re:The Weird OS Built Around a Database [video] on Tuesday February 24, 2026 @01:44AM (#47133660)
I knew this would be PICK.

My uncle, a very tech-savvy accountant type, used it a lot back in the day and always had nice things to say about it.

It is said be way of comparison to modern platforms. Which seems pretty accurate.
Re:Matrix messaging gaining ground in government IT on Monday February 09, 2026 @07:45AM (#46944634)
I think it’s a few things

- lots of places kind of Teams by default - or Slack or discord m, even WhatsApp - or in intensive cases, things like Refinitiv, Bloomberg, and, Symphony , which is kind of federated, but adds all the automation and also governance stuff needed for 100MM trades via IM and the like.

I can't speak for how effective the process is, but this is the idea behind the EU/UK GPSR's Authorised Representative framework - though not exactly local (that would be excessive, since GPSR also applies to much smaller sellers too)
Nope.

Regulation of cars , like anything, is expensive. It’s worthwhile for cars for safety reasons, but bikes are cheaper, and also way less dangerous in general, so need a lighter hand.

The current cutoff in EU is probably right, above a certain power level, e bikes are l, broadly, treated an motorcycles (licensing, type approval, insurance etc) , below that and with non-e bikes, is really just about the basics, eg are the wheels firmly attached and do the brakes and lights work?

More practically, it’s about if someone hits you or someone you care about with their car or the like.

Aggregation of data like Flock does is a different matter and can be handled separately. Like I mentioned in my other comment, other countries tend not to have things like Flock, since they understand unregulated data processing such as that is problematic for all sorts of reasons; the US is a big , big outlier in this area.

Counties with effective privacy laws focus on the control and processing of the data.

Regulating data processing like this is common and should not be controversial.

That’s kind of the point of license plates though.

They are there firstly so that when a driver damages something or hurts someone, they can be held responsible. What’s so bad about that?

Observe how you have to scroll down past the other senses mentioned to reach this one; dictionaries usually put the common senses first.

People here might not notice - your link is the official client interface for talking to KDB+ processes from Java.

There's a decent chance your broker (or their dealers) are using stuff built on this.
