Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Sunday October 04, 2026 @04:56PM (#49957764)
You curled and executed bash code allegedly from _HBO_?
Just tested and this works great on macOS with Plash [1] by Sindre Sorhus. I couldn't find too many URL parameters to control it, but the FAQ does mention an ?obs parameter to hide the interface by default and ?weather=... to choose the weather. This URL in Plash works as described:

    https://loficities.com/tokyo/?obs&weather=leaves
I was also able to omit ?obs and use the website interface controls to configure it via Plash browsing mode and then the interface went away after a moment of inactivity.

Kagi Translate has become my most used Kagi product. I would pay for API access
I mean, Deng Xiaoping is/was a huge influence in _our_ lifetimes. It was only the 1970s, just fifty years ago, when he was effectively the head of state. That’s like yesterday. I’m not saying Hamilton doesn’t have the influence you’re describing, but it’s not really an equal comparison given the huge difference in timeframes. Late 1700s is a ways away vs the 70s.
I only see those type of videos on 小红书

Yeah, lost some of my first bands music from this. Admittedly our fault for misplacing the masters but hey we were kids

Loved MySpace. Keep a dumb parody of it for myself: https://myspace.kyle.foo/
Nice parameter expansion examples in that bash-web-server. It uses the $_ parameter in ways I hadn’t thought to before, often preceded by a single : ${x} line for pre-processing of the variable.
Re:Why Some Men Struggle to Keep Up with Friendships on Saturday March 21, 2026 @04:31PM (#47470979)
You don't need to see them to maintain a friendship, no? One of my friends moved a couple hours away and has two kids under the age of four. We still talk regularly, both text and video calls. He comes back to the city a few times a year for work and we grab beers when he does.

We have a free Slack workspace where a few of us keep in touch and share things. It's pretty active.

Re:Why Some Men Struggle to Keep Up with Friendships on Saturday March 21, 2026 @04:27PM (#47470936)
I think I agree.

I am lucky not to have friendship struggles; I have a vibrant social circle with close male and female friends. I talk with my male friends more often, but the conversations are not very meaningful. For most of them, it is hard to break through and have talks that require vulnerability. I don't know why.

In contrast, my close female friends are great in this regard. They are open, empathetic, and kind. The conversations I have with them often leave me feeling a stronger connection. They are far more substantive.

And yes, some of my male friends are ignorant and hold (IMO) ugly opinions.

Re:I Just Returned from China. We Are Not Winning on Wednesday February 11, 2026 @12:31AM (#46971242)
What does it mean to “win” in this context? Can’t we both win? But yes, if we want to use this framing, then yeah we are losing. But even if China wasn’t a thing at all, I would still say we’re losing

It’s clear you didn’t read your links because this one concludes with:

> "Scholars in China and at the UN have analyzed these and other data. Not a single person has 'discovered' such a huge discrepancy." ... "China has had at least three censuses since the start of the millennium, and there has been no evidence that more than 100 million people are overreported in China," Wang said.

Re:We regret but have to temporary suspend the shipments to USA on Wednesday August 27, 2025 @10:28PM (#45047661)
Yes, and it boggles the mind as to why they did. Biden was quite the pro-worker president. Biden saved the Teamsters pension fund and then still the Teamsters officially wouldn't endorse him or Harris. To have your retirement rescued so spectacularly while the opposing party was throwing stones at it and then go on to vote for that opposing party who would have stopped that funding if they could... I just don't understand.
Re:Waymo granted permit to begin testing in New York City on Friday August 22, 2025 @06:08PM (#44990453)
What would be the alternative? Just get who was driving your car to pay you back for the fine. If they are not accountable/honorable enough to back you back, then why were you letting them drive your car in the first place?
Re:Sequoia Backs Zed's Vision for Collaborative Coding on Thursday August 21, 2025 @04:07PM (#44977413)
Seems like a minor thing to change IDEs over. Would a Zed task that runs the relevant git command work for you? e.g.

    // ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/zed/tasks.json
    [
      {
        "command": "git --paginate log --follow -p -m -1 ${ZED_FILE}",
        "label": "last-file-diff:${ZED_FILE}",
        "shell": { "program": "sh" }
      }
    ]

You can even throw a keybind on it if you'd like:

    // ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/zed/keymap.json
    [
      {
        "context": "Editor && mode == full",
        "bindings": {
          "ctrl-shift-g d": [
            "task::Spawn",
            { "task_name": "last-file-diff:${ZED_FILE}" }
          ]
        }
      }
    ]

I am not familiar with gitlens so not sure how close this gets you but you should be able to replicate the functionality you need from the git CLI and some light scripting. This can be a jumping off point maybe. If you want to view the diff using the zed diff viewer, you can do so using `zed --diff`, as demonstrated in this GitHub discussion: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/33503#disc...
Re:Work Life balance slows careers on Monday July 21, 2025 @03:10PM (#44639151)
Short sighted to prioritize career over life. Few people in the US have any self-worth or identity outside their career, at least IME working in tech. It saddens me greatly. “Productivity” is a disease. Some of my closest friends have no idea what to do with themselves outside of work. No one lays on their death bed wishing they worked more.

It says “framer” is not in the word list, but it most certainly is a word, at least according to the New Oxford American Dictionary.
Re:What's Happening to Reading? on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @08:39PM (#44588463)
I’m sorry, but you can’t find five minutes (if even) to read an email? No way your day-to-day life is so completely composed of things demanding your full attention that you don’t have a couple minutes to read an email. You typed out this comment, presumably after reading the thread. Surely you have time if someone you know sent you an email. You could read it in the time it takes to brush your teeth.
Re:What's Happening to Reading? on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @08:28PM (#44588391)

> people who have intercourse while staring at their phones

This can’t be real. Surely no one does this. Do people do this?

Are you saying that people who use food stamps – because they cannot afford food – should instead buy food with the money they don’t have?
No problem! You might also consider the iTunes Search API [1] to power your search functionality e.g.

    curl 'https://itunes.apple.com/search?term=jim-e%20stack&entity=song' | jq
[1] https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/Au...
Cool project! I have never been very satisfied with the existing services for collaborating on playlists.

I think the experience could be improved if you branched beyond YouTube for the media. I search "jim-e stack" and see multiple non-song videos (in fact 3/4 are not songs). One idea might be to use a service like https://odesli.co (formerly song.link) to filter to real music tracks people are familiar with on their streaming platforms. Their API returns links to Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, etc for a given music entity (e.g. song, album). Furthermore, integrating with Odesli would offer a path towards allowing users to drop Spotify / Apple Music URLs directly from their respective apps into the jukebox, which I think would be my ideal experience.

My $0.02. Thanks for sharing!

Re:The Death of the Middle-Class Musician on Monday June 30, 2025 @11:18AM (#44424397)
While I agree with the spirit of your message, you picked the wrong artist for this particular line:

> every piece of song writing […] is micro-managed by an entire team of people

No doubt this is true for many many pop artists, where there are literally teams of people with song writing credits, but for Taylor Swift, it is almost always just her and Jack Antonoff credited with songwriting and composition, and not uncommonly just her alone. Say what you will about her, but she writes her own songs.

What, exactly, is so problematic about not telling your parents that you smoke weed with your friends before playing video games? What, exactly, is so problematic about not telling your parents who are dangerously religious, that you had sex with your high school girlfriend? These are all normal, innocuous activities of teenagers. A therapist would not think twice about hearing them.
No it’s not. Everyone hid things from their parents. I hid soooo much from my parents. It’s fine. It’s normal. It’s far more important to have limited exposure to modern smart phones.
Re:Skip the exit interview when you leave your job on Monday June 23, 2025 @07:35PM (#44361319)
It is this sort of fear that holds society back. Individualistic thinking and a belief that one cannot make a difference anyways allows so much bad behavior to take place. With everything in life, you should always try to leave a place better than how you found it.
