Do you have a link? I can't find this.
Why comment if you didn't read the article? It's in the first paragraph: "Social media platforms based in the U.S. including Facebook and WhatsApp will be forced to share users’ encrypted messages with British police under a new treaty"
Remote: Yes, willing to, but not required
Willing to relocate: only if you are in NYC and can get me a US visa
Technologies: looking for a non-coding role, but have lots of coding experience with: Java (Spring Boot), JavaScript (React, Angular), PHP (Symfony, Laravel), Python, Go, Scala, Ansible, Puppet, and more.
Resume/CV: (redacted because my current startup is shutting down but we haven't yet announced it... although a determined person can find it easily by Googling me) https://imgur.com/a/KKVePLJ
Email: amy (at) [my HN username] .co.uk
I'm looking for a non-coding role, either as a product lead, in strategy, or similar. Frankly I have got very tired of being in extremely small startups, so I'm now looking for mid-size to large startups or corporates. My current startup that I co-founded will be shutting down in the very near future.
I actually uploaded SVGs so I think you might already (unintentionally) support SVGs?
I've re-tried the "remove user" one but uploaded an SVG instead of a PNG (so technically the resolution is unlimited). Uploaded it both circled and not circled.
Here are the results: https://imgur.com/a/OT8Spjt
The first one (the arrow into the door) seems to have worked well for the first three 'similar icons'.
The second one (remove user) didn't work at all. Maybe because it is circled.
In both cases, half the similar icons are 'download' icons, and I can kind of see why for the first case but not at all for the second case.
(struggled with the NYM so gave up and went with something childish...)
FaultFixers is a fresh new SaaS + App startup (funded) looking to change the customer experience for every building manager and field operative. We make managing buildings and repairs super simple through our apps.
Our product is live, we have initial customers (headliner is the Foreign & Commonwealth Office), and we have a sizeable and growing list of businesses that want to work with us.
We’ve secured industry expert advisors (FTSE CEOs) + funding to grow the business development and engineering capabilities, and we’re really excited about finding an enthusiastic individual to join us on our journey.
Tenacity and resilience are two of the most important factors for this role, because of the very nature of BD, but also because you’ll be joining a youthful business that is constantly learning and evolving – a startup fan is ideal!
As a key leader within the team, you’ll be responsible for commercially developing and acquiring a portfolio of clients (substantially new business focus initially, later including account development + customer success).
You need to know what it takes to make it happen when it’s a small team in an early business.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Great and hard-working at cold origination / lead generation
* Natural hustle (but in a friendly, subtle and effective way. No aggressive sales people please)
* Taste for hunting and closing
* Polished communication skills (written + verbal) with attention to detail – people read things!!
Apply by emailing [email protected]
No doubt you yourself have wanted to report a fault or maintenance issue in a building you use regularly (workplace or residential) BUT couldn’t be bothered to report it because it takes a lot of effort on your part + you never find out about what happens even if you did report it – bleugh, old-fashioned reporting, see you later! FaultFixers is a SaaS + app startup (recently funded) looking to change the customer experience for every building user by giving them a simple and quick way to report faults!
We've got 2 positions available:
* Business development manager - £30-40k + equity. * Business development intern - paid 3 month internship, may lead to full-time.
We're a 2-person team right now, based in WeWork Moorgate. We're looking for people with a passion for startups, an entrepreneurial mindset, and who is easy to get on with.
If you're interested, email us at [email protected]!
Though just yesterday 2 people signing up said "I probably shouldn't use Facebook now" and referenced the Cambridge Analytica news.
It's taken 8 years to realise it, but now I realise the tech startup culture is absolutely horrible and -- as they article says -- full of narcissists. If you don't realise how bad the culture is, I'd recommend introspecting a bit (wish I did this sooner).
When I read this line, it hit home. I've been in and out of NHS treatment for years for other (not anorexia) issues. I never ever want to rely on the NHS again. They failed me so much I now avoid having to interact with anyone in the medical field. I deliberately avoid going to my GP for anything. Mental health care in the UK is so bad that you really wouldn't believe without first-hand experience. It needs to be scrapped and started again. I don't want to rant here on Hacker News too much (almost never comment) but this hit a nerve and I'm angry just thinking about the mental health care the NHS pretends to provide.
CityMunch allows independent restaurants and food trucks to attract new customers, by offering discounts in real-time to users near them through our app, reducing food waste and keeping kitchens busy. In our short history, we have launched in 3 cities (London, Bristol and Manchester) with hundreds of partner restaurants, and 35,000 app downloads.
The next step is going national, and building tech that allows predictive dynamic pricing -- for example, tell restaurants 'based on your location, cuisine type, users nearby and the weather, a 30% discount will attract 5 new customers in the next 2 hours.'
We are hiring a mid-to-senior full-stack developer, ideally with experience in Javascript (mainly Angular/Ionic) or Java (Spring Boot). You would be developer number 2 in a small startup, so there are lots of opportunities to make a meaningful difference to the future of the CityMunch tech.
We are currently based in Google Campus in Shoreditch, with plans to move elsewhere in Shoreditch in early 2018. Having raised a seed round already, and with additional investment from Just Eat, we are set to continue our fast growth in 2018.

You can add "&length=3" to the query string and it will render all three initials: https://ui-avatars.com/api/?name=John+Doe+Third&length=3
2) I can't comment on reviews -- don't know if that's true or if it's the same with Deliveroo.
3) I just opened Deliveroo in Angel. First is a donut shop... second is Pret A Manger... third is a wine store... then LEON and then Itsu. First on HungryHouse (owned by Just-Eat) is YouMe Sushi, followed by a bunch of independents (none very special but still independent and better than Pret/LEON/Itsu!). First on Just-Eat is Burger King to be fair, but that is then followed by indepdenents. McDonalds is first on Uber Eats. So I think Just-Eat is already equaling Deliveroo/Uber. Also I do see their logo everywhere.
Stock price is higher than ever: http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/prices-and-marke...
They are reporting good growth: http://www.cityam.com/256734/just-eat-reported-order-growth-...
I see lots of Deliveroo bikes around where I live in the centre of London, but they are basically non-existant when I go to other towns and cities.
Also, Deliveroo started up-scale -- they can't go down to selling cheap Chinese takeaway food, because it will hurt their image.
Just-Eat started at the low-end and are now moving up-scale without hurting their image. And even then, plenty of people prefer low-end Chinese food (I sure do).
Just Google "UK free credit report" -- there are websites like Noddle that will show you your report for free.
