Re:What's the most ridiculous job title at a startup? on Monday July 07, 2014 @04:40PM (#8001263)
"Customer Happiness Hacker/Intern/Person".
"Jugaad" is more make-do/being (very) resourceful in situations where there aren't other options. "Hack" has a more playful, irreverent connotation whereas jugaad is resourcefulness forced of circumstances, in places/situations where if you aren't inventive, you are left behind. In Hindi, "jugaad" also means to gather/manage/take care of.
"If I stay out late with a girl, it's almost automatic that I will escort her home regardless of the inconvenience to me."

That works for those holding on to even the lowermost rungs of the middle class. Below that the condition of women, oppressed by caste and class(not direct but still a strong co-relation), their plight is hellish to even think of.

My experience may be an extreme one but the last apartment I shared,my flatmate would go for long periods without talking to me at all, only communicating by writing note after note, which sometimes was so odd as our rooms were right next to each other,we could easily hear the other person coming and going and would be easier, nicer(in my view)to actually talk.

I felt that she wanted to believe she lived alone but couldn't handle the fact that both of us needed the other for the apartment sharing to really work.

Re:India to overtake U.S. on number of developers by 2017 on Thursday July 11, 2013 @03:35AM (#6024895)
Taking the article's numbers at its face value - 2.75 million vs 3.6 million is not huge difference. But apart from a smallish startup scenario in metropolitan areas, the situation is still grim. Most work is to be found in the IT companies involved in off-shoring and there isn't much indication that more developers will mean a surge in newer companies involved in more innovative work.

Re:Ask HN: Best city in India? on Saturday November 13, 2010 @07:00AM (#1900734)
For anyone wanting to work in the software/startup/tech scene,Bangalore is the best. The weather is always on the cooler side, its smaller in size compared to other metropolitan cities and traffic situation has much improved over time.If an analogy helps,Bangalore is kind of like San Francisco.

Mumbai is different in that unless you can find housing close to the center of the city(hugely expensive) where it "is easy to meet other people - clubs and events and such" ,you'll have to commute.Mumbai is NY + LA put together with all the excesses and advantages of both cities.

Delhi is nice but the weather tends to be extreme. As a newcomer, unless you have people to help out,it may not be that easy to start off there.Though its a great starting point to travel from for all of north India and worth a visit.

Have no idea about Chennai.

I learnt Indian classical music till I was high school and then had to completely give it up for different reasons.I haven't practiced it much since then and I regret it badly. And I really regret not having been much involved in extracurr. activities in college
