14.04 is the LTS release, most corporate environments using Ubuntu that I've encountered jump between the LTS releases due to the five year support cycle. Being that a fairly large portion of the Dell's customer base it does make sense.

It looks potentially a very good application, however, I'm unable to sign up as I use a personalised domain and get this message:

Incorrect domain of Email-id! (only gmail, yahoo, msn, outlook, rediff, hotmail are supported for now).

Do you have plans to support a greater number of domains soon?

Re:"Let's ban tiny phones" - UK Government on Thursday August 22, 2013 @07:38AM (#6256475)
I believe there was an issue with guards needing to be able to use their mobile phones in an emergency. The majority of the Prison service use TETRA radios now which can be linked in to the rest of the UK mainland emergency services so it shouldn't be an issue but there seemed to be a lot of reluctance so that there was a backup in the event everything else failed.
I use it for an org with anywhere between 25 and 50 using it at any one time, assuming that you spend a bit of time organizing the folder structure at the beginning it's not a major issue but it does require staff discipline to keep it organized. It doesn't beat a dedicated Document Management system but it strikes a nice balance for working on frequently updated files.
Re:Thepiratebay.se SSL certificate expired on 2/2/13 3:52 AM on Saturday February 02, 2013 @07:52AM (#5155871)
The difference between the anti-piracy and illegal porn blocks are that the porn blocks are transparant whilst the anti-piracy blocks are a clear notification page. I'm not sure if that was due to a requirement in the judgement or something else.
It's not usually this bad, we've had a lot more releases lining up with the US release dates. A number of friends have already resorted to piracy to view Wreck-It-Ralph and the studios wonder why? With such an interconnected world (and particularly with Digital distribution with the cinema chains) there is no longer the excuses for such a difference in release dates. If they really wanted to combat the piracy issue they need to make it easier to consume the content legally.
Re:Samsung Phones: Every app has full memory access on Monday December 17, 2012 @11:17AM (#4932867)
As unpopular a suggestion as this may be, Blackberry's are very secure particularly if you enable some of the more advanced security features such as secure memory and full device encryption. A lot of research has been undertaken at my University into this recently and very little progress has been made.

The obvious downside is that the App eco system is still very poor compared to both iOS and Android and the UI leaves a lot to be desired. It depends really on whether you favour security over usability.

Re:Show HN: TTS-API - Text-to-speech API on Sunday November 11, 2012 @07:34AM (#4769357)
Pretty impressive, I've given it a go with a few of the more technical terms that I come across at work and that other TTS' have difficulty handling and it dictated them flawlessly. Very interested to see where this goes!
Re:How I hacked Gogo inflight wireless Internet with Chrome on Wednesday August 29, 2012 @01:15PM (#4449772)
As far as I can see he's done absolutely nothing illegal, immoral maybe depending on your view on the matter. It's rather like totally trusting client side javascript for authentication, unless you check that the data being received is accurate then you'll never be able to stop this. It's a simple case of trusting the client. I would imagine that should the submitted have been running an Android Development Image on his system and access via a browser on that the effect would be the same.
Re:Leap on Wednesday August 22, 2012 @06:10AM (#4416685)
I would imagine the number of people accessing the site from different timezones is likely to be the reason for it, an article can quite rapidly disappear from the front page before someones had the chance to see it.

There is the option of GoCardless (https://gocardless.com/) in the UK, however they use the Direct Debit system rather than card processing which does somewhat limit you geographically.

It's quite possible that the image was also used for their facebook group image and simply not renamed when pulling together the landing page.
One of my ethics lecturers at University was a Chinese national and she was clearly quite uncomfortable, nervous almost, of discussing human rights and oppression in China.
Re:How PayPal could have killed an independent conference on Friday August 12, 2011 @02:32PM (#2878571)
I've been running an event in the UK for around 4 years now. We have around 1200 attendees and push around £55,000 (around $90,000) through each year.

We had a few small issues the first year where paypal froze our account until additional verification had taken place but since then and three years of continuous use we haven't had a single problem. However we've also never had a chargeback so I would imagine that's heavily worked into their risk calculations.
