News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Not the first time, and not the last. They just did it again yesterday to Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon.

Re:Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:17AM (#50167702)
I'm pretty sure they already considered it before settling on Go. Allegedly, they chose Go because it was easier to translate to.
"Rewrite GitHub in Rust. Make no mistakes."
So much this. I don't know if ever had a "serious" police force, maybe we did or didn't. But surely we don't anymore, what we have know is a joke.
As a Trekkie, I'm offended.
Re:When oil prices spike, where does the money go? on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @08:29PM (#49902810)
I wish I could downvote this, because what a bunch of baloney! Unless you have hundreds of thousands, and to be precise millions, invested in oil already, you're not going to see any significant changes to your portfolio. The rich will get richer playing the market, the regular folk are left out as always paying the price.
Re:GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @04:48PM (#49900261)
I needed to analyze some network logs from my own app to debug an issue, and Claude just refused to work with me. Fuck Anthropic!

So thankful that these open models exist.

Re:GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @04:44PM (#49900206)
Is Anthropic stupid or something?

I already barely use Claude, but now I think I'll just stop using them altogether. Fuck Anthropic!

Why is this on the front page of HN?
Re:PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock on Saturday September 26, 2026 @12:10PM (#49857875)
Confidently incorrect. As others have mentioned it is shutdown.
Re:Google's Open Agentic Orchestrator on Sunday September 20, 2026 @11:20PM (#49782689)
I looked at the website, and I still don't understand the purpose.
Re:Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions on Friday September 04, 2026 @08:16PM (#49571715)
What does it mean "closer to chrome"?
Re:Fastpotify on Thursday September 03, 2026 @12:34PM (#49552806)
Too bad this requires a Premium subscription, can't use this without one.
That's not a counterpoint.
In other words Uber did not bribe the politicians enough in their favor, market was not favorable for them, so they exited.

>Even if its proofread and factually correct it just comes across as cheap and low effort

How so?

Re:Incident with Github.com on Monday August 17, 2026 @09:46AM (#49330784)
Can anyone shed some light why GitHub is having so many problems lately?
Re:Going Dark, and the era of law enforcement hacking on Friday August 14, 2026 @06:13PM (#49305232)
I don't know, my colleague refuses to use AI and I've been seeing more bugs from their side, while reducing bugs on my side with the help of AI.

That said if companies want to "ship ship ship fast", then yes even AI can produce bugs or regressions if not carefully reviewed by the human.

His "AI" company is about weaponizing deepfakes. This guy is nuts and should be banned from HN.
Same here, I haven't had beef in over 2 years now. Chicken and pork only now, mostly chicken, like 90% chicken is all I eat now. Insane.
Re:Nikita Bier Steps Down as Head of Product at X on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @09:31PM (#49191314)
1. Stop using X. 2. Why is this on front page?
Re:Qwen3.8-Max: A New Bar for Coding and Cowork on Monday August 03, 2026 @12:32PM (#49158001)
US AI companies are already sweating and 100% pressuring the Trump administration for more anti-Chinese regulation, since there have already been talk of Trump considering banning Chinese models. There's however another push back from the startup industry urging them not to ban it, since it will stifle the innovation. In other recent news OpenAI also greatly cut their model prices, 20% for 5.6 Terra and 80% for 5.6 Luna, to stay competitive.

This is from July 8, 2026. And while you did link it in your article, what else are you expecting?

Re:OverpAId – Fire your CEO. Hire the future on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @11:59AM (#49008852)
That's why Citizens United is a sham. Corporations are NOT people. If they were, they would see more consequences. But no one ever does.
Re:Microsoft deleted my account and OneDrive on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @07:42PM (#48914395)
I truly hope you get this resolved if it is at all salvageable. The more stories I hear like this the less I am inclined to do any kind of backups with these companies because they are notorious for not giving a single fuck.
I'm curious, who is actually making the calls and who is actually doing the scouting for these people. If this is coordinated, the chain must long, so let's see it!
Re:Previewing GPT‑5.6 Sol: a next-generation model on Friday June 26, 2026 @10:41PM (#48694630)
I don't know about Cursor or other outlets, but I use GPT 5.4 exclusively in Windsurf (Sorry, Devin!), and it's a very capable model that doesn't break the bank!.
Re:Running local models is good now on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @05:00PM (#48562002)
Clickbait title, because running local models is still not good now.
Not in my experience. Never had issues with FF feeling sluggish at all.
Re: on Sunday June 14, 2026 @10:46AM (#48527723)
Related, someone posted this on Reddit, so I'm quoting:

>If his companies were valued properly, Elon would be worth only $50 billion

>Currently:

>Tesla stake: he owns 20% of a company valued at 388x profit = $304B

>SpaceX stake: he owns 42% of a company valued at 112x revenue = $882B (had to switch to revenue because SpaceX has no profit)

>Twitter/Xai/cash (owns all of it): $33B

>304+882+33 = $1.2T

>Real valuations:

>Tesla: value it at 11x profit like Ford and his ownership stake is worth $8.6B

>SpaceX: value it at 1.7x revenue like Boeing and his stake is worth $13.3B

>Twitter/Xai/cash: $33B

>8.6+13.3+33 = $54.9B
