former deepmind ceo having received a nobel in chemistry, perhaps a coincidence?
Re:Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed on Friday October 23, 2026 @08:16PM (#50217102)
Not entirely correct. This kind of fine-grained model behaviour is built in post training stages, RL, RLHF etc, where model receives rewards or penalties for talking (or not talking) a certain way

"3. a speculative or conjectural view or idea"

(Collins dictionary, noun 'theory')

Must surely exceed P(AI doom)
I've formalised a few dozen papers from 80s-90s with lean and holy cow the number of author's typos and straight up errors and sometimes false statements is pretty scary. The solution path may not be the one indicated or used by the author, but at least you can easily spot all those issues which would have been very hard to do by hand

And c-n / c-p - with those you barely ever need arrow keys
Re:Writing Efficient C++ Code on Sunday September 27, 2026 @04:03PM (#49870288)
Depends on your field. When one microsecond is considered "hellishly slow", you might reconsider
Re:How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs on Saturday September 26, 2026 @09:12AM (#49856219)
It's like saying who likes to ride a bicycle in the world of cars, you can do it much easier with a plain steering wheel.

Well... sure it's more efficient (although in some cities and certain routes it's not; same with coding and LLMs). But some of us just love riding the bicycle and enjoying the nature, you know. Perhaps even strengthening our muscles as we do it, as a healthy side effect.

Re:English: A vs. An on Saturday September 19, 2026 @07:12PM (#49770925)
Yes, but then it may sound as if "both/all" is being highlighted which it isn't in the neutral "they are doctors" statement
Re:Why getting your hands dirty is good for you on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @11:07AM (#49611444)
Not going to lie, I was a bit confused at first (before visiting the link), why would BBC publish an anti-AI post for software developers.
Re:De-Brainrot Vacations on Monday September 07, 2026 @10:16AM (#49598742)
Indulging in musicianship works very well, too. As in, learning a musical instrument, say classical piano, with some external guidance.

You'll have to activate parts of brain you might never had to previously, it's quite some mental gymnastics but also an immersive mind + body + aural connection. You may feel exhausted after an intensive practice session but in a very rewarding way. You'll have to learn to learn differently.

Re:GPT-6 Astra on Friday September 04, 2026 @11:10AM (#49565814)
We'd have to wait on LeCun to make progress on that
Re:GPT-6 Astra on Thursday September 03, 2026 @03:50PM (#49555796)
Artificial general incompetence?
Re:Muse Spark 1.3 on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @04:26PM (#49541997)
Someone did care enough to create a throwaway account to vent here, it seems.
And how can we tell for sure if it's good or bad? Does killing these birds and mammals help maintain the ecosystem balance (due to these birds and mammals not killing billions other animals down the food chain, or not spreading infections and viruses), or the other way around?
Re:OpenClaw 2.0, Accidentally on Monday August 31, 2026 @02:28AM (#49506277)
It's also things like being able to change runtime configs in human language without having to turn to computer, eg "please also track when this artist is in my area". Nothing revolutionary, but kinda the whole point? Tell it what to do, it goes off, does some chores and searches, updates some configs so that later on some crons would use them.
Re:Hacking IKEA Furniture on Sunday August 30, 2026 @06:50PM (#49503608)
You don't stare at your AirPods, they don't create the room vibe, whereas, arguably, the furniture does, along with the lighting.

Re:Cursor launches Origin, GitHub alternative on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @12:54PM (#49348624)
So GitHub itself is a trustworthy agent and nothing to do with AI?
Re:Introducing Muse Spark 1.1 on Thursday July 09, 2026 @10:47AM (#48846788)
A pretty good related question is - compute a running median (or window median).
Re:Rewriting Bun in Rust on Thursday July 09, 2026 @03:14AM (#48842054)
Even, possibly, the other way around in some cases. A seemingly identical program may (and it does occur) compile to a faster machine code in rust than in C++ due to extra markers (eg alignment) that rust compiler is able to provide to llvm.
Re:Zenzizenzizenzic on Saturday June 20, 2026 @10:28AM (#48609484)

Re:It's hard to justify buying a Framework 12 on Friday May 29, 2026 @02:26PM (#48327272)
What type of software will you not be able to run? Your browser will work just the same, and your dev env and devtools will be just the same, and it's a posix environment. If that's what I need most and it runs just about the same on macos/linux then why not prioritize the hardware?
And that lad is of course an information security engineer
Re:I keep bouncing off the Scheme language on Monday May 25, 2026 @08:08AM (#48265909)

Foundation series vibes anyone?
Re:Everything in C is undefined behavior on Wednesday May 20, 2026 @06:14AM (#48205473)
If there's no UBs then what will we programmers do, there won't be enough to debug and fix?
Correlation doesn't imply causation
