Re:Ask HN: How do you handle billing for your SaaS product? on Sunday January 05, 2020 @03:28PM (#21963811)
Incase you didn't see the other comment.

They take 5% + $0.50 for each transaction. Seems pretty high to me, guessing that is why they're effectively hiding this information. Interesting conversion technique.

I like how on hacker news every personal problem can be solved by three activities; Therapy, Meditation, and...Salsa!

It's probably good advice. Although, I like to combine all three by doing painting and poetry. These activities might be better suited to some hackers.

I saw people express skepticism before this stuff, that is part of why this is effective. It partly depends upon there being low trust in "sources of truth". Want to know the funny thing? The people that eroded the trust are now the ones complaining the loudest about the results.

Also, why does sex sell? Because people desire sex.

What happens if you give them both grapes?

If you want to see an example of what you are yearning for, I'd suggest reading about the history of coffeehouses in England.
"the land of opportunities where you can make it"

The above is old propaganda. It was true. It is becoming less and less true.

The things you listed are all connected.

No, western people do not care about Iran and China, providing they are not actively making their lives worse. And vice versa.

I think the attitude you are expecting people to have is insulting both ways. You are denying the Iranians and Chinese have any agency...Do you really think they or their Goverments spend all their time just reacting?

Ps. If you say to someone in the west "What do you think of those re-education camps?" they will reply "Sounds like a university". Sadly, they are not completely wrong.

Good. I've been thinking about something like this.

You should make the title Qliiq-ible(clickable).

Re:SoftBank is still writing big checks on Friday January 03, 2020 @07:12PM (#21951739)
Yes, it is now their asset. After they built a stake and gained control.

Even the common takeover trope of relationship building between an insider and the acquirer happened here. All Vision Fund's dealings with WeWork seemed to go directly to Adam Neumann. And to be frank, he seemed to be out of control, he was going manic, and it seems as though this was encouraged by Vision Fund.

Neumann did very well out of the deal. What happened to the other co-founder?

Apperantly, "Google builds many critical web apps using the Dart language, often with AngularDart." [1]

I have never heard this from anyone else though.

I know people say this a lot on Hacker news...but, that is not the model of Venture Capital.

And the Vision Fund has not only invested in high risk ventures.https://visionfund.com/portfolio

Vision Fund's "investment" in WeWork is effectively a hostile takeover of a distressed asset. It is one of the most conventional bets they have made.

By the way...This publication is owned by Morningstar inc. Guess you invested in Morningstar inc. during the dotcom bubble?

Softbank. $91million for 20%

The unsuccessful ones.

As soon as a startup becomes successful they have hired an attractive anthopology gradute to be "head of people ops" etc. After this it is mostly luxury ideals and gimmicks.

At one time every startup claimed to only hire the best. Then they mostly failed. They are still out, being the best, that is currently avialable, in a commutable distance, at below market rate.

The Vision Fund is in London. Are they the ones writing the cheques? :)
Re:SoftBank is still writing big checks on Friday January 03, 2020 @02:56PM (#21949676)
Cheques.

Although, they should be writing checks into the operations of WeWork.

Edit: Oh, Saudi Arabia and UAE sovereign wealth funds have checked out of the next fund.

Where did they get that idea from? [1]

Amusingly... it was likely their opposition. This is why you should hold yourself and those you align with to high standards. It only stengthens your position...even if you are completely wrong (although only a little bit)

Re:Ask HN: How will you invest your money in 2020? on Friday January 03, 2020 @10:38AM (#21946756)
10% index funds. 90% everything else (this includes ETFs).
To be honest...I think this is a secondary concern. Your primary concern should be assigning the values correctly.

For example: If i select work from home, it returns Intuit, if I click apply, it takes me to their ATS...This is good, but it seems they are not offering work from home, so this result is false.

The reason why Key Values is enjoying some success is due to marketing. Right niche, good promotion, good design, good sales. (but even then, not that many companies have signed up. why not? They are probably aware of it.)

This format might work if you go after a different segment of the software industry (maybe?). I am currently doing something similiar in a unrelated industry, it helps if you can talk the lingo, know some people etc.

P.s Unlesss the companies have already paid to be listed? Then, well done.
