6 years ago i had a lenovo thinkpad p1, branded by lenovo as a portable workstation. Today i have macbook pro m5 max, much faster and more powerful than the lenovo, so why not call it a workstation?
I let one agent categorize all bugs, then have it decide which clusters of bugs should be addressed together, and which ones can be addressed in parallel.
It's not just the LLM costs, to keep your agents busy you need to move them of your workstation onto a server/cloud. I currently have about 16 claude code agents working on different bugs, uses so much resources that my macbook pro m5 max becomes slow to respond. Using cloud session would free up my macbook for other work.

Anthropic recently handed out free cloud resources (it's still free, guess they want you to get used to the fact that cloud is not free). I went through $250 cloud budget in less than 2 days.

Feels almost as expensive as LLM calls.

I think the environment you set up for the agents is just as important as the prompt. I've been working full time on a claude code developed project for the last 10 months, and it seems to become better and better at developing the right thing. It has the tools to research whatever context it needs, test it's output in a relevant way, etc. It doesn't by itself suggest complete refactoring, or big performance optimizations, so that's something you have to prompt for, but it will collect all the evidence and context to make a proposal, implement it, and test it.

I think ai is more rigorous with testing. It’s not so much about what an llm “knows”, but more about how well it does plan-do-check-act.

It’s amazing how much slop humans have produced that now needs to be fixed by AI…
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:50PM (#50280705)
Use an iPad. For the price of a duo you can purchase an iPad Air and an iPhone, even more screens, you can run even more apps next to each other. And the iPad can extend its screen to a normal display if you want to run even more apps.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:37PM (#50280543)
I had a Lenovo thinkpad with OLED before switching to a MacBook Pro (first M1 Max, now M5 max). I don’t really mis the OLED display, it’s not that big of a difference (according to my 55 year old eyes…) the thinkpad also had a touchscreen, never used it, only by mistake. I would not pay extra for a touchscreen or OLED on a laptop. The photos on the apple website are not convincing, playing a keyboard on a vertical screen looks very uncomfortable.

Also don’t understand the iPhone duo, I’d rather have a normal iPhone and an iPad Air. Cheaper, and better for mobile use and for couch media consumption.

Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:15AM (#50240213)
I think the real weakness of democracy is that governments can’t make difficult changes. The current government wanted to but both the right and the left did not accept those changes. Similar story as France, a big need to change, but everybody expects others to pay, not themselves.

Today, it’s always either the fault of the other party (who never had a real chance of making big changes), the rich (but if you tax them too much they leave and you’re left with no economy, see France), or the foreigners.

Re:SimCity, but with Permits on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:38PM (#50172340)
It's not just democracy, but also huge population growth and population clustering. People moving from the country to the city as jobs increasingly moved into the city.
That was not my point. I agree with you that producers of these models should be able to extract value from their models, I'm just surprised that everyone expects free models. There's a real cost in producing those.
So why is mistral so far behind?
Open weight models don’t train themselves, someone needs to do it, and that costs a lot of money. I guess they’ll want to see an ROI.

In every war civilians are murdered. By both sides: bombing of rotterdam, Dresden, Hiroshima…

I was probably an agent that made the change, and the same agent that commented here on HN.

A nicer way to frame it is: “value based pricing”.
Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Sunday September 20, 2026 @02:36AM (#49773076)
Yes, why would government suddenly start protecting workers when we never cared in the past? Our society only cares about money, cheaper and faster. We’ve automated so many jobs, including the carpenters, but soon also all drivers, taxi drivers, truck drivers, and thousands of other jobs. And realistically, most customers don’t see the difference between average and high quality from a skilled professional. They just want cheap.

And what are graphic designers going to protect? AI is not allowed to make designs? Or the style of a specific designer is not to be copied by anybody else, AI or human? Many graphic designers produce work in the same style, are you going to prohibit that as well?

Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Saturday September 19, 2026 @03:28PM (#49769438)
We just have to accept that we’re now living in the age of industrialization of any skill that is digitized. And on average that means it’s not better than what a qualified professional can produce, but it’s good enough, and good value for money. Just like IKEA furniture is not better than anything that a skilled carpenter can create, but most of us settle on industrialized furniture because we don’t have the budget for better, or we prefer to spend it elsewhere. Similarly, most companies don’t need bespoke posters nor software.
An llm response here would be more respectful than a downvote without a comment.

And it’s quite disrespectful to dismiss a project that may have taken a lot of time and thought, even with agents, to build, and just dismiss it because the readme was created by an agent.

I thought it was a fine informative readme, starts with the problem, outlines the core of the solutions, and some limitations. Everything I want to know in the first few paragraphs. No need to spend human time to improve it.

Don't worry, it will be consistent eventually.
Re:Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @03:15PM (#49687581)
I’ll agree with your last 3 words: they’re broadly similar systems - systems of deceit and self-deception. They may share the same god, but for 99% they’re different enough that they think they can kill one another and their god will approve, or even give them gifts. For 99% these religions are incompatible.
Re:Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @10:47AM (#49684593)
Exactly, and all Jews think Jesus is a fake. And on top of that all the past gods, Roman, Greek, Inca, Vikings, etc.

There can be more than one solution.
Re:Everyone should slow down AI development except for me on Sunday September 13, 2026 @04:54AM (#49681641)
You forgot “we can stop climate change”…
Re:Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @03:21AM (#49680987)
Come on, it’s way more common than that. We’ve invented 3000+ gods and almost as many religions, most of them are incompatible with each other. So, most of these must be incorrect, so a huge amount of self-deception. But as Harari argued in his book sapiens, humans can be inspired to great things by stories, even if false. Self deception has served humanity in a big way.

Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:22PM (#49631148)
No, for that money I can buy an iPhone and an iPad. Just checked, iPhone 17 256gb plus an iPad 13inch 256gb is about 100 euros cheaper than the cheapest iPhone duo.

Re:Things I want in a modern relational query language on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @01:01PM (#49437196)
Why does it matter? It’s like a named operation, and if you want local scope you can create CTEs, which is like an anonymous local operation. So you have both options.
