Nice PR hit for Goog!
> Employees at Google, for instance, are offered the chance to nap at work because the company believes it may increase productivity.
What percentage of employee-days at Google actually involve a nap? 1%? 0.01%? Is it any higher than the traditional comic practice of "curl up under your desk"?
not entirely randomly, but processing stuff that's been "on your mind" and not packed away in long-term memory.
I imagine it (non-scientifically) as the brain's trash compactor, finishing up all the half-completed thoughts of your day, not necessary in any sort of logical way, like mashing the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together regardless of how well they fit, to get something that just barely fits together at a glance.
Contactually has a creepy mannequin, though.
I'm fairly certain that Shuttleworth is coming to realize he'll never recoup his investment in Canonical, and his goal is to drive Ubuntu into the ground so he can close up shop and stop hemorrhaging funds.
You credibly describe the flaws of the prison system, but you don't offer any alternatives.

To quote the patron saint of Hacker News, patio11: If you don't like it, maybe you aren't in their target market.
Do you think you are in MySpace's target market?
"Hey friend, it looks like you are using Opera. Beware, pal, that we don't go to the opera down here on the ranch, so there may be rough-riding ahead! Try one of these nifty browsers buddy, or sally forth into the unknown. OK, pardner?"

These "long con" 419 scams need to rebuff intelligent/savvy people and only attract rubes.
I get that deployment is easier when it is vendor hosted, but this really should be a local app using local storage, withe maybe transient server-side storage for syncing between machiens.

In order to keep it to what purpose? To make money.
Wow, so the trains don't run on time, so they make the time run on the trains?
How does Google get satellite view data without suppliers?

Aha!
In zsh "=(cmd)" does that, but "=" doesn't work in bash.
"<(cmd)" works everywhere... why did zsh trick me with "="?
S/he could ask him at 10:15 each morning while he eats a snack, like any executive assistant does.
Which browser is the shining beacon of light for HTML5?
Eh, seems plausible that Jamie got >$150 worth of return for his advertising spend on the survey.
I'm sorry, did you think that there was science happening in the HN self-promotional echo chamber?
What does fault have to do with self-reliance? Fault is in the past, solving problems is in the future.
Gold mine. Under CAN-SPAM, spam is worth $500 per message, if you can identify the sender.
Does that mail get labelled Inbox, or Spam, when it is first delivered?
This is in fact the intent of Gmail's spam button design. Gmail's definition of spam isn't tailored to Federal law, it's "whatever messages our users are likely to mark as spam"
It's only easier if the recipient is web browsing, and wants to risk getting cookies and malware from a known-malicious entity...
