Re:Xbox Turns Down Netflix $500M Offer on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:37AM (#50228377)
Beef, Dark, Mindhunters, The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and Narcos are also in the same tier as Andor for me. Black Mirror also although it didn’t start with Netflix.
Yes, obviously the statement can be made about fraud, because you already made it. I was pointing out that the effects of violence are not as simple as hurting one person as you said. Then you replied by repeating yourself. I am so tired of talking to people like you.
Violence ripples out. It’s never just one person. Living in a violent society has huge costs on all of us.
It was not tricky. The arguments against are fundamentally dishonest and so is your representation otherwise.
Kavanaugh agrees with their reading of the 14th Amendment, though.
Look into dehumanizing language used by political leadership over history and where it tends to lead. Especially when paired with extremist, evil policies like remigration.
Remigration is more than a strict immigration policy. And calling legal immigrants parasites is going too far.
Definitely a famous story that gets retold and almost mythologized in China. When I taught over there, several different middle school students independently told me about this story.
And so can you.
They deleted it. Have a mirror? Thank you!
Mullvad worked okay in China in June for me. I imagine it will be better in Indonesia with their less sophisticated blocking.
He has signed it. Look at the update on the top of the article:

>Update: This article was published on June 5. Since then, Gov. Greg Abbott has signed Senate Bill 2972 into law. It will take effect Sept. 1.

Re:Chongqing, the Largest City – In Pictures on Sunday April 27, 2025 @12:44PM (#43813202)
Sorry. Online discourse has poisoned my brain.
Re:Chongqing, the Largest City – In Pictures on Sunday April 27, 2025 @11:45AM (#43812722)
Yes, absolutely criminal and true. The US is quickly going down a dark path. That doesn't make what I said about China any less true.
Re:Chongqing, the Largest City – In Pictures on Sunday April 27, 2025 @11:06AM (#43812438)
The person you're replying to is ridiculous and ignorant. But also many of the creators you're talking about are paid by the Chinese government. If they're living in China on an ongoing basis creating content it's almost certain. Even if they're not paid, you have to be careful what you post if you're building a life in China.

That's not to say that they are completely wrong or lying. China is safer than the US in almost every way, for everyone. But racism manifests differently there. I was in the country through the entire Covid pandemic. Ask the African community in Guangzhou how they were treated.

Re:The US Assault on Science: National Academies Letter on Monday March 31, 2025 @06:26PM (#43540629)
Hard to believe that this is your good-faith take on the substance of the letter.
I consume very little "traditional media." I haven't forgiven most traditional media for the coverage leading up to the Iraq War and adjusted my reading accordingly going on 20 years now. Cable news was always horrible and I stopped watching it well before then. My opinion is entirely based on the video, Musk's own words on Twitter, and his other actions. I simply don't believe you are genuine here and won't continue the conversation.
Nah. Not misinformation. Just other people aren't willing to give him the massive benefit of the doubt that you are. There's no point arguing with you about it, of course. But in context, watching the full video, seeing his opinions expressed on Twitter... surely you can see how people can come to the conclusion that they have.

For you to act like it's 100% definitely misinformation rather than a judgement call is disingenuous to the extreme.

Re:The Full Story of the FAA's Hiring Scandal on Wednesday February 05, 2025 @05:11PM (#42956027)
I guess I'll save a click for other readers. The post linked is completely unrelated to the subject of this thread. This person isn't interested in real conversation.
Re:The Full Story of the FAA's Hiring Scandal on Wednesday February 05, 2025 @10:33AM (#42949940)
Your post added nothing to the conversation except insults though. I would have been interested in hearing an alternative perspective on why GP's post was reductive because as far as I know it's accurate.
FYI, I assume anyone using the words "stay mad" is actually the mad one. Just a note on your rhetoric, I have no opinion on El Salvador's bitcoins.

Source, please. I do not believe this.

Re:Numpyro: Probabilistic programming with NumPy powered by Jax on Saturday November 16, 2024 @01:34PM (#42158146)
You'll lose a lot of the PyMC convenience functions with Numpyro but gain a lot of control and flexibility over your model specification. If you're doing variational inference, Numpyro is the way to go.

You can use the Numpyro NUTS sampler in PyMC with pm.sample(nuts_sampler="numpyro") and it will significantly speed up sampling. It is less stable in my experience.

Re:Canvas is a new way to write and code with ChatGPT on Thursday October 03, 2024 @09:20PM (#41736865)
I'm glad this exists. But their example with a blog post draft is something I will never do. ChatGPT writing makes me cringe at this point—I might as well write the entire thing because of the number of edits. Natural-sounding writing with a distinctive voice will become more and more valuable in the future.
Re:Brazilian court orders suspension of X on Friday August 30, 2024 @05:14PM (#41404507)
I don't know who this guy is, but listening to him speak in your link, he does not seem like a good source of information to me.
No, it wasn't.
It's not really "Newspeak" at all; if anything, it's the opposite. Newspeak had limited vocabulary. The interviewer is using a bunch of ten-dollar words. Still, interesting interview! I might read some Padgett Powell at some point because of this.
Re:New car buying guide: the algorithm on Monday February 26, 2024 @02:33AM (#39508511)
Yeah. It probably depends on the brand, but I was just looking to buy my first car in quite a while and had to update my thoughts on this. Previously I'd be all for buying used. But I was looking at the prices for 2 to 5-year old Toyotas vs. new and the difference was shockingly tiny unless there was something wrong with the car or it had ridiculously high mileage.
Re:Ask HN: How many of you are self employed? on Monday February 05, 2024 @11:11AM (#39262705)
This is nice! Going to try it out for a while. Could potentially expand to TV shows on YouTube, there are tons of free ones for my target language (Chinese). Also, this might be challenging, but would be nice to see Chinese divided into Cantonese/Mandarin and simplified/traditional characters, although it's not a big deal for intermediate learners to just choose podcasts that use their target language themselves.
Re:Why car insurance in America is too cheap on Sunday February 04, 2024 @12:51PM (#39252519)
How am I supposed to answer that? Either your insurance agent was wrong, or mine shouldn't have sold it to me. All I can contribute is my experience.
