There's also Japanese Alps. Alpine has become a type.

So, it's essentially argument injection?

I dislike these tools so much, because you need to know all these corner-cases and I don't.

Re:Stripe, Advent offer to buy PayPal for more than $53B on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @02:40PM (#48925267)
Wero is essentially iDeal. iDeal is great.
I understand this sentiment, but rest assured that they will find your projects anyway.
Free speech means that the government doesn't go after you. It doesn't shield you from consequences (which you may or may not agree with) from private parties.
Nobody says it is. I think they mean the EU law frameworks that constituent countries need to implement.

What she says isn't necessary untrue, now is it? She just skips a lot of steps most people have no clue about.

I had files in a cabinet, now they are digital. And most often also on a cloud drive, which is metaphysical in some sense. For most it is indistinguishable from magic.

Re:Using E-Ink tablet as monitor for Linux on Sunday December 14, 2025 @03:34AM (#46261661)
No HDMI is really sad. This means there are probably closed source drivers. Linux is not mentioned as supported, so I suspect crapware.
Re:Windows drive letters are not limited to A-Z on Sunday November 30, 2025 @03:28PM (#46100092)
While 80 characters is obviously quite short, my experience is that longer line lengths result in much less readable code. You have to try to be concise on shorter lines, with better phrasing.

I don't see conflict in those statements.
Re:Static Sites with Python, uv, Caddy, and Docker on Tuesday September 02, 2025 @03:36AM (#45100149)
To be fair, this can all be achieved with other tools, while still rsyncing the Python to prod.

One advantage is being able to run the Docker anywhere with the same build. Two runs of the same build are not always the same, but the Docker image will be.

Claude also doesn't know, because Claude dreamt up changes that didn't work, then "fixed" them, "fixed" them again and in the process left swathes of code that isn't reached.
I detest QuickTime more than any other piece of software
Re:I hacked my washing machine on Monday July 28, 2025 @03:24AM (#44708159)
This is my setup. I find this to be a reasonable balance for comfortable life. Except my printer, that gets no Internet so it cannot update to some crappy firmware that nags about supplies.

Shelly has power meters with clamps, so that the meter is not in-line. There are probably Zigbee variants out there.
I wonder if underground water tables can play a role in accelerating this last bit.

There are buildings on the last couple hundred meters. I also wonder if current-day maintenance and concrete-work helps.

Indeed, fascinating.

These are all over The Netherlands and widely used by animals.
No need to be needlessly antagonizing or blaming.
Re:What went wrong with wireless USB on Sunday May 04, 2025 @04:59AM (#43885504)
How does it not solve the problem? The data shows up on the other end. The fact that you don't agree with the implementation is a different thing, but it does solve the case.
I do not get the feeling that using WhatsApp was the source of the disciplinary measures here, but rather the racist contents they shared there. So to be fair to GP, this could be much more prevalent.
Nothing wrong with that. This is my practice as well.

But you seem to have a short-sighted view on what sex can be.

They did not follow modern Christian values. Sex was looked on differently, as was parenthood, and adoption.

Also, contraception did exist in those times.

I block my printers from doing any Internet requests for this reason. They're only allowed established and related traffic on the LAN.

Discussion has been deleted.

Edit: the whole repo has been put to private.

Re:Indigenous engineers are using AI to preserve their culture on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @03:23AM (#43010351)
What language have you tried that they're bad at? I've tried a bunch of European languages and they are all perfect (or perfect enough for me to never know otherwise)
Re:Indigenous engineers are using AI to preserve their culture on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @03:22AM (#43010344)
Isn't this something humans would also do if there were native speakers left to speak the language?
Re:Make Your Own Website: A beginner's guide on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @02:13AM (#43009904)
You point to some very dense documentation sites. I am glad I didn't have to wade through those when I was a kid. This is the sort of site you can navigate when you know you have something to look up, most often not when you start out.
Re:Northern California Cities Should Undercut PG&E Now on Sunday February 09, 2025 @05:16AM (#42989751)
There are genetic generations and cultural generations. I think they mean the cultural generations.
Re:We Need to Talk About Docker Hub on Friday January 24, 2025 @10:16AM (#42813850)
I started using it to get rid of all the moving parts of library versions, moving Debian releases, etc. Everyone has the exact environment locally and there is no confusion.

It has its own flaws, but it was so much better than the alternatives.
