The big one I noticed is 1984, which won't be out of copyright in the US for 20ish years.

Re:ChatGPT web and mobile UIs unavailable on Tuesday August 29, 2023 @11:16AM (#37309165)
Yeah but if I'm doing research online I'm going to stick with sources I consider reliable, written by real people and not a text generator. So I'm not sure I understand the comparison you're trying to make.

How do you know the information you're getting is factual?
The company is supposed to negotiate with the union. That's the whole idea behind unions.
Re:A guide for playing The Sims 1 on Intel and ARM Macs on Sunday January 22, 2023 @11:26PM (#34485453)
This is great. I very recently looked into getting the Sims 2 and found this:

Still working on getting it (or a similar release) working in a Wineskin for macOS. But it works great on Windows 10.

My elementary school playground had several giant tires. Not sure what that was all about but we found ways to make them fun.

Reminds me of the Pocketmod, which to my surprise is still around:

Re:Over-reliance on CGI in movies on Wednesday February 02, 2022 @02:17PM (#30182546)
Fury Road makes pretty extensive use of CGI and digital compositing.

But it looks great so you don't really notice it.

Re:“This project will only take 2 hours” on Tuesday November 09, 2021 @11:56PM (#29171215)
Scope creep happens when you discover new requirements after defining a project scope and delivering an estimate. The type of analysis outlined in the article is helpful to define a sane and reasonable scope upfront, to hopefully avoid creep down the line.

Re:New Dell XPS 13 developer edition now available on Wednesday January 23, 2019 @05:59PM (#18984086)
Yeah, mine drops after suspending. Sometimes it shows the device is disconnected and I need to re-pair it. Not sure if that is a problem with the system or my MX Ergo, but it never has problems on my Windows machine. Occasionally the whole bluetooth system dies and I need to reset.
Re:New Dell XPS 13 developer edition now available on Wednesday January 23, 2019 @01:14PM (#18980849)
I have a pretty new one (9370 I think) and I love it. No coil whine, the build feels great, and I have no complaints about that keyboard or trackpad. My only real complaint so far is the bluetooth is flaky.

Installing Make on Windows is easy. Works like a charm.

  choco install make
A few months ago, my Chromebook was updated to support Android apps. YouTube Kids should be available on the Play store assuming your Chromebook is updated to support it.

Is Dive into Python still maintained by anyone? That's what I used when I learned Python about 10 years ago.
Re:Google Fiber Is Coming to Salt Lake City on Tuesday March 24, 2015 @04:41PM (#9259328)
I wonder what this means for the metro Provo/Salt Lake Area. I live in between the two cities and would love to have access. Has Google expanded to the metro areas of other Google Fiber cities?
Re:'Bad Paper' Explores the Underworld of Debt Collection on Friday October 10, 2014 @01:27PM (#8438994)
There are also a couple of interesting articles about this. Here's one that I think was submitted to HN a few months ago:

Fascinating stuff.

Re:Apple Pay on Tuesday September 09, 2014 @03:55PM (#8292454)
This seems similar to Google Wallet, which has been around for a few years. How does Apple plan to make this a bigger success?

Re:HBO programming available on Amazon Prime on Wednesday May 21, 2014 @03:56PM (#7780414)
HBO Go has a much larger catalog than Comcast on demand. You can also stream in HD, even if you don't have Comcast HD.
Re:WinJS: the Windows Library for JavaScript on Wednesday April 02, 2014 @04:39PM (#7518834)
Microsoft is doing a big developer conference this week, and is announcing a lot of new stuff that HN finds interesting. When WWDC rolls around again, I'm sure there will be a ton of Apple stories on the front page.
Are those the ones that needed special metal mousepads? Those were rad. My dad had one for drafting.
