Re:Comoga/django-constance - Dynamic Django settings on Saturday March 02, 2013 @02:46PM (#5310730)
Is this much different than creating an admin-enabled extra_settings table with key and value fields?

I'm probably missing something.

I created Landslide (github.com/adamzap/landslide).

I found letslide.com a few weeks ago and have been wanting to contact and thank the creator. You did a great job with it.

We'll be talking more!

ep.io's hardware is in Europe. Is the increased latency a legitimate concern for a startup that only serves US customers?

I have a few small things on ep.io right now, and it's great.

v1.34 fixes this, right? The author committed it this morning.

Re:Sleep is more important than food on Wednesday March 09, 2011 @11:07AM (#2305242)
sleep_times = [wake_time - 1.5 * x for x in range(3, 7)][::-1]

Is that really all that's happening here?

Re:How can I foster a "hacker culture" at my university? on Friday January 28, 2011 @11:45PM (#2154662)
I felt the same way at times in my CS department.

Schedule and give talks about the CS topics you're teaching yourself. One approach we took was to present it as a SIG (special interest group) of our ACM chapter. Even if one person, only your friends, or only the ACM officers come, that is plenty.

I think the first few should be about why your workflow is more efficient that the typical CS student. Don't be so overt about that fact, of course. In my experience, people will start to tinker if you present it as a path to efficiency.

I think it's worth it to screencast all of your talks and put them on a website. (Résumé / Brand Bonus)

If you find one other like-minded hacker, you win. Things will change after that.

You should totally go above and beyond with all of it. This is a rare time.

Re:Mapping Income Distribution by Religious Belief on Saturday December 25, 2010 @12:56PM (#2039166)
For the theist, probability has nothing to do with it.

I would hope the same is true or the atheist/agnostic.

Edit: I was considering the Christian theist.

Could you give an example?

How is aging ridiculously unfair?
Re:Ask HN: Share a gem. Teach me and you. on Thursday July 29, 2010 @11:08AM (#1557797)
There's nothing wrong with that and it is just as satisfying, or even more so than some externally supplied meaning.

If your philosophy is consistent, then the above statement is only true for you, correct?

Re:Poll: What is your religion? on Sunday July 04, 2010 @11:31PM (#1487131)
Interesting. Thanks for the response.

If one obtains answers to a number of questions (meaning, morality, afterlife, etc) by postulating the existence of God, is the nonbeliever exempt from having to answer those questions?

In pursuit of the answers, the nonbeliever must make new assumptions outside of simple nonbelief because simple nonbelief doesn't provide answers. Doesn't Occam's Razor then side with belief in God? I am not referring to simple belief in some higher power, but Biblical Christianity.

I believe that those questions (meaning, morality, afterlife, etc) are essential to a coherent worldview and are human questions rather than religious questions.

Re:Poll: What is your religion? on Sunday July 04, 2010 @09:28PM (#1486870)
Is your disbelief in God solely based upon Occam's Razor? If so, could you elaborate on it a bit?
Re:Slippy - HTML Presentations on Thursday June 03, 2010 @02:59PM (#1402156)
I threw a similar project together for our Lightning Talks at work. It takes a specially-formatted Markdown file and generates some html5-slides. Code highlighting and a few other feature should be coming soon.

http://github.com/adamzap/html5-slides-markdown

I'll try to put a sample presentation up tonight.

Slippy seems more feature-rich right now though. Great job.

Isn't that his microphone? Or are you referring to something else?
