Recently purchased an 100 year old home. it was dead in the middle of winter and the house has steam heating which wasnt working. a few screenshots and chatgpt gave me a step by step of which levers to pull and knobs to turn. this was terrifying considering i knew nothing about these systems. it worked!

i'll echo that practicality only surfaces once it is apparent what can be done. yea this feels like running "DOOM on pregnancy test devices" type of moment
agreed. Binaries is a bit too sensational for my taste. this can be further optimized.

Re:I was wrong about robots.txt
on Thursday July 17, 2025 @01:23AM (#44589950)
if you are hosting a house party that invites the entire world robots.txt is a neon sign to guide guests to where the beers are, who's cooking what kind of burgers and on what grill; rules of the house etc - you'll still have to secure your gold chains and laptop in a safe somewhere or decide to even keep them in the same house yourself

Re:Let's Talk About ChatGPT-Induced Spiritual Psychosis
on Monday June 16, 2025 @01:14AM (#44286789)
There will always be a portion of the population susceptible to this kind of thing. that will never go away. "video games cause violence" , "social media causes suicide" etc. you can start at the "delusions of grandeur" wikipedia page and go down the rabbit hole to find that this happens with some small portion of the population all the time throughout history. this is a psychology issue not a technology one.

I've seen some of this pop up. LLM suggests some library from stack overflow that no one has used - for any reason - but... some thread has marked it as an answer. boom! "if you need to do X obscure task just import X"

I still use my t440s all the time to this day. it is durable, versatile, does exactly what it does and does it well. not tied down to its firmware, software - i can't think of the analogy off the bat but its like several other things that "just work" (maybe indoor plumbing or something) so well you forget about them

Re:Five minutes of exercise a day could lower blood pressure
on Friday November 08, 2024 @02:16AM (#42084903)
this is true. at some point i was so unfit that i probably was going to die if i continued eating and being as sedentary as i was. a single game of soccer changed my life. it was fun to chase a ball around and i got addicted to this "after glow" effect.
