If it is sold as unlimited, then using the service at the maximum bandwidth all month is not abuse - that is normal use.

I think you should be grumpy with you service provider who seems to have no idea how to properly manage traffic ;)

Yeah kids will f** that schedule completely.

I guess it depends on how you look at it... For me this is like a river with a big rock in the way... The water will find it's way around with other means...

Why not build a cheap 4 core ryzen setup and not deal with all the pain... I know socket am4 is on the way out... But you could do it and have a system that works......

Actually if the developers of the web browsers in India did the same thing, easylist would have it easy...

thanks for your reply :)

You are right. My apologies for the conflation.

The brain doesn't compute it, the cochlear is an fft! It is a cone shaped structure (that is curled up) that is covered in hairs and neurons. The fatter end is used for low freq and the thinner end is used for hi freq. So the brain takes audio in the frequency domain, not as continuous samples!

why not just point pool.ntp.org to your router ip on the dns server?

then you need not open them up to anything :)

Re:Ask HN: Which boring technology do you still use? on Wednesday September 28, 2022 @04:30AM (#33005605)
Zfs will never make it into mainline unless someone rewrites it from a blackbox specification.

The zfs license is incompatible with gpl.

That being said zfs is awesome, it is simple to use, about as bulletproof you can get.

Re:GitUI: Terminal UI for Git on Saturday September 17, 2022 @09:47PM (#32883563)
IIRC rust statically links crates used by the application, so it might not just be the stdlib that is causing this.

What about Xbmc/Kodi? Works great on a raspberry pi hooked up to my TV... Has been doing that since the early 2000's when it ran on my brothers Xbox (original) but that was pre-Linux.

Re:Why Ubuntu 22.04 is so fast (and how to make it faster) on Saturday September 03, 2022 @06:29AM (#32700470)
Think that is bad? There is a way to completely remove all the desktop packages by installing a package.

After that I am back on 20.04 (which doesn't do this).

Some power stations (coal, nuclear) take a long long time to spool up, from a cold start. As such it is cheaper for them to stay online and generating and paying users to do so that to shut them down.

I think the gp meant standard UI library...
No, this is the perfect her care for an option. This gives the buyer and option to buy or sell at an agreed upon price. The buyer of the option pays a premium, and only loses that if they choose to not exercise the option. If they exercise the option they also have to pay the agreed upon price.

As such, there is an asymmetric upside in this case.

I agree with the parent poster in regards to top roping, but I will add one thing: climb up 8 or more meters and let yourself fall about a meter allowing the rope to jolt you when it takes your weight. The subsequent adrenaline rush will make you lose your fear. I can go from freaking out to smashing climbs in about 5 minutes :)

As a note: be safe if you do this -- get an experienced climber to belay you. I do not take any responsibility for any harm this could cause.

Cheers

Re:Ask HN: How to say no to a GitHub issue feature request? on Saturday August 06, 2022 @06:41AM (#32366839)
Easy: Just say " My time is not free, if YOU want this feature you need to pay $100000. If you are unhappy with that, do it yourself."

Re:We fired our top talent. Best decision we ever made on Sunday July 24, 2022 @11:05AM (#32214159)
Poor management suffers from the problem on not fixing things if they do not seem broke. They will get Rick to overwork himself into burnout if it helps them.

When Rick feels betrayed and is belligerent because they are taking basically everything he is away from him (at this point this is his work).

So what could they have done? easy! They could have stopped rick from getting this far by actually managing him, having people actually look at his work and make sure he was actually collaborating with others. Rick would likely be a better and less stressed worker.

So you are saying its cooling strategy is to make the device slower for the user so it can cook itself until the ball joints on the CPU fail? Great design.
Re:Ask HN: Is 20 too late to go to college? on Saturday July 23, 2022 @08:37PM (#32209037)
I have done 2 degrees science when I was 18 and then electronic engineering when I was 25. I work as a software engineer now and it has never been an issue (I am now 37).
leaving a cpu with no cooling solution is a recipe for cpu failure. see the xbox 360 red ring of death as a scenario where inadequate cooling caused issues for the buyers... this is poor engineering and customer hostile.
Re:In esports media, layoff season is in full swing on Friday July 15, 2022 @04:20AM (#32105975)
No, the GGP is making the point that games designed for competitive multiplayer are not fun. Skill was always required. But fun is something the industry has forgotten how to do.
