Yet the Panama Papers thing happened.
Re:WordPress is now 13 years old on Friday May 27, 2016 @11:37AM (#11786680)
At this point I don't think Wordpress is going to change their codebase into something more modern and secure. Is there any other easy to use blogging platform like it? PHP based because PHP is everywhere, based on a modern framework (symfony2, laravel, etc), jinja-like template system, support for databases other than mysql?

I was wondering if that site was some sort of aggregator and amazed that it would carry over the code examples so well from the actual article. This explains so much.

Yes. And like the french word it literally means to stop fasting.
Patient: "It hurts when I touch my abdomen"

Doctor: "Solution: stop touching your abdomen"

Re:Advanced Ping: httping, dnsping, smtpping on Sunday May 15, 2016 @12:26PM (#11701505)
I thought it came from ping pong. As in you send a "ping" and it responds with a "pong".
Re:Why Aging Isn’t Inevitable on Friday May 13, 2016 @12:56PM (#11691533)
I think it's fine if some people get to live as long as they want. Not all of us desire it and not all of us would make good use of it. The people that do it can then decide to stop whatever is helping them stay alive when they no longer want to. I see no downsides to this.

You might need different node/postgres versions for different projects.
How likely is facebook to block it?
HN could simply add a '&title='. No need to change anything in their routes, just change the link in the main page.

I don't think search engines are the main source of readers for HN.

Maybe loading those whitelisted ad domains through Tor?

It has happened to me that a registration form would not allow characters like '<' which any keyboard will most likely have, while it allowed unicode characters like (ಠ_ಠ)
Re:My next chapter on Monday March 07, 2016 @04:39PM (#11241924)
Apparently going to be Product manager on Photos according to some Anonymous Googler.
That's just some ancient book saying it.
Re:Firefox for iOS now available on Thursday November 12, 2015 @12:03PM (#10554396)
Desktop Firefox has had extensions for years and I've never seen it become malware.
My guess is the shortest would usually be the very next one since Google Image is good at finding the same image file in different websites. There would have to be a constrain for how close to the last image the next one is or you'd end up in a one image loop.
It would be nice if you could change the seed image. Someone needs to automate this.

I for one like seeing Javascript replaced by better Javascript.
Re:Mad Map: Python Road on Sunday June 14, 2015 @08:57PM (#9716922)

    map(lambda x: x, ['a', 'b', 'c'], [1, 2])
This should be

     map(lambda x, y: (x, y), ['a', 'b', 'c'], [1, 2])
If you want the same behavior as passing None as the first argument.

Apple products use disposable batteries?
Re:Optimizing Python – A Case Study on Friday May 29, 2015 @10:27AM (#9624715)
As is Nuitka, but who keeps track of these things?

It's more of a development default.
Re:What Happens When You Install the Top Download.com Apps on Tuesday January 13, 2015 @09:36AM (#8880077)
With so many Windows users and developers how come there is nothing like Debian's apt? With zip-like packages instead of executable files, signed by the maintainers and with a uniform installation ui. The closest thing I know is Chocolatey and it doesn't even comes close.

Even if only open source applications used it, it would be so useful.

Re:I’m Terrified of My New TV on Friday October 31, 2014 @12:11AM (#8537265)
FBI van with free wifi goes through your neighborhood, the TV happily auto-connects to it and dumps all its data.

How can we make the wifi module inside the TV unusable?

Re:Lawrence Lessig Interviews Edward Snowden [video] on Sunday October 26, 2014 @10:45PM (#8513515)
Why is he using Google Hangouts? That sounds like trouble.
