Nice, but they're merely fixing a regression ;)
Now if they could do the same with the iPhone instead of introducing more Bricky McBrick editions…

The $100 merely serves as a gatekeeper to prevent people and non-devs to create unlimited developer accounts. It used to be $500 a decade or two ago, and it was worth it even back then, until Apple realized they should probably just give it away almost for free.

I much prefer using an actual device, which is required for a lot of other hardware features anyway.

The TLS trust chain is the last defense against MITM attacks. The prevalence of MITM attacks is in fact the very reason TLS exists. I'd say it's a lot worse than PHP2Shell because it doesn't only affect poorly maintained servers, but potentially ALL credentials and secrets a user sends over a compromised network with compromised CAs on their device.

No thanks, I'll use a generic model along with trusted sources.
Also: "Apple could not verify “Survival LLM” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy." This is obviously some vibe coded trash from an inexperienced dev.
Re:New iMac with M6
on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @03:12PM (#50264241)
That's because the design hasn't been significantly revised for years, and Microsoft and HP copied its design language long ago. Also, total desktop sales are 14 % of all Macs, so the iMac is maybe 5% and understandably not a priority.
Re:New iMac with M6

Most people don't run their own LLMs, let alone install GPUs themselves.
I'm one of those Mac users, but I do have a linux tower for remote dev work and LLMs.

That would be a 4K 32", and I don't understand who would buy such a low-res monitor. A "very nice" 5K or 6K monitor is way more than $800 alone.
Re:Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads
on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @10:22AM (#50166905)
Yea, the problem is Apple thought this was an UI improvement, but actually broke a common usage pattern. This kind of change should definitely be a setting, and considered thoroghly before changing the default. This is poor design and lack of QA, not a bug, per se. But the result is even worse because it means the previous functionality likely isn't coming back.
Re:Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads
on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:44AM (#50166334)
Apple needs to get their software design on track again and do proper QA and testing on their software before making these kinds of changes. 27 was supposed to be a quality improvement snd bugfix release, but it's mostly been a cascade of bugs and UI failures.
Re:I Have Thoughts on the iPhone Air
on Thursday July 30, 2026 @05:14AM (#49107622)
I have thoughts on the Air and all other iPhone models: They're too large. The iPhone 4 was perfectly sized and we have the technology now to build a super powerful phone of that size. I simply don't use my phone for anything that requires a larger screen. Smaller screens also encourages better UI design.
Re:I Have Thoughts on the iPhone Air
on Thursday July 30, 2026 @05:09AM (#49107581)
Exactly this. And the profit would be huge compared to any Mac. I suspect Apple dropped it just because they're making even more from selling oversized and over-specced phones.

I don't think giving children tech adults don't fully understand is a goal by itself. But children shouldn't be limited by their parents' shortcomings either. Strict age limits may seem like a safe approach, but children and their capacity to bypass those rules should not be underestimated.
Re:Norway imposes near ban on AI in elementary school
on Friday June 19, 2026 @07:13PM (#48604408)
The problem is they were two decades late digitizing the classroom. Now we're dealing with the aftermath with the educational system still not being capable of keeping up with societal progress.
Re:Norway greenlights first full-scale ship tunnel
on Friday June 19, 2026 @09:31AM (#48598374)
It's the main lane where all coastal traffic passes, and one of the most dangerous and weather sensitive regions on the lane. Larger ships sail farther out when weather conditions don't allow for sailing the coast, but a lot of traffic including fishing vessels carrying fresh fish simply have to wait. So it's not as meaningless as geography makes it look.

Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound

I guess it's a matter of taste, and the quality of the coffee, but I love the crema. Personally I think removing it sounds a bit like picking the olives off the pizza.
Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound
on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @05:58PM (#48562730)
Absolutely, and I enjoy a lot of cold brew, but it's not espresso.
Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound
on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @05:56PM (#48562714)
This is completely false if the espresso is brewed with freshly ground and properly roasted beans with correct temperature and pressure. The texture of the crema also says a lot about the quality of the extraction.

Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound

You're right. But I drink my espresso hot, so I don't quite see how it can compare : )
Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound
on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @06:07AM (#48552980)
The product is moving into a different territory, though. I doubt these guys even know how to pull a proper espresso shot as a baseline for the test. I'm sure you can grind espresso coffee beans to a powder and just shake it until it achieves a flavor similar to espresso, but that doesn't mean the resulting drink can really compare to something that was brewed at the right temperature and pressure.
Technically you can also buy a bottle of grape juice from the grocery store, let it sit on the kitchen sink with a yeast lock for a few weeks and call it wine, and technically it even is, but it's also going to taste quite shitty.
Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound
on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @06:02AM (#48552939)
In that case I'd say espresso is not the right brewing method : )
Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound
on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @05:29AM (#48552712)
And this is why you can't use "100 regular coffee drinkers" to judge the quality of the brewing method. Most people can't even taste (or care about) the difference between arabica and robusta beans or whether it's red or white wine.
Re:New way of making espresso with ultrasound
on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @05:25AM (#48552683)
The crema looks like terrible, more like Nespresso, and having the coffee warm is kinda important.
But perhaps this can be used in the instant coffee industry or something.

This is like Bill Gates' 640 kB of memory quote. Lack of fiber and Gbps+ adoption is the reason why video meetings still suck and streaming has visible compression artifacts.
