I was into FIRE movement until I realized that i cannot retire until I am about 60 (42 now). A big meh moment. Thus new goal is that in about 5yrs to be able to work max 3 days per week, remote or not (though highly biased towards remote). Even if that means switching careers Product to Dev (re)learning, etc, I'd be fine with it. + Frugal living, of course, i did all the grind + material accumulations, as result of hard work + career advaces in tech + wife in marcom. I find it that 3 days work vs 4 days for life is a good balance (self time, raising kids, travel, the whole set). The big economy sistem should support in general more flexible methods of earning a living.
Re:Can Crops’ Wild Relatives Save Troubled Agriculture? on Thursday December 12, 2019 @05:43PM (#21777408)
Yes, there is troubled agriculture about, with many issues about to implode.

Over-used pesticides (Glyphosate, etc) or insecticides (e.g. neonicotin-based) which became systemic, heavily used (x times volumes of usage vs 20 yrs ago) and which in light of new research have either shown that produce side efects in environment or end-'consumer', i.e. humans or had side effect of 'developing' super-x (super-weeds, etc) which are no longer affected by initial substances, forcing agriculture producers to use even stronger substances (e.g. Dicamba).

Many of such systemic substances have started to be forbidden in civilized countries (see EU trends of banning some of them).

On top of which there is the black-swan called climate-change which with its sydtemic complexity has potential to produce systemic crop failures.

In not too long distant future farmers will have to assume an agriculture hard-reset (in terms of inputs) which will assume high double-digit Y-o-Y decrease in outputs/production.

My 2 cents.

Thank you for this :))
The most appropriate trees for an area are the local ones and with a view to Climate Change, the local species with good adaptability to climate change characteristics (need less water, can rezist temperatures variations, etc.). Pawlonia is being pushed/marketed heavily on the internet due to some superficial/mercantile characteristics (fast growth, big foliage), but besides that, in the agroforestry/agroecology academia, Paulonia is known to be just a marketing buzz, and a relatively dangerous one.
RO, start-up-mode: 50-60 hrs; corporate (telco, fmcg, financial services): the usual 40 hrs/week.
