Google "never outsource your core competency".
How many of those employees are in fact biorobots?
Because if you put several thousand engineers on the project they got to do something great, isn't?
Re:What asm.js is and isn't on Thursday June 20, 2013 @04:27PM (#5914727)
How do you expect DOM to be accessed from C++? Do you think it is possible to make an asm.js -> C++ code map for debugging? Or in worse case asm.js -> C++ (somehow) -> Scala debugging?
Re:Lobster, a game programming language on Wednesday June 19, 2013 @02:27PM (#5907292)
Also in C#: | var a = 1; | vs | dynamic a = 1; | I think there should be a version number next to language name to avoid false impression.

And the payers is not the type with accounts and charities to use for tax dodging.

"Most people are years and years behind the world." You read too many good blogs, crappy enterprise software actually is "world".
Re:Scala.js - Write in Scala for the browser on Saturday June 15, 2013 @09:19AM (#5884935)
Cool!
Re:Scala.js - Write in Scala for the browser on Saturday June 15, 2013 @06:28AM (#5884675)
Current version of Scala is definitely superior to current version of JS in terms of quality of implementation. ECMA 6 is a different story.
Re:Project Loon on Saturday June 15, 2013 @06:18AM (#5884659)
"But two-thirds of the world’s population does not yet have Internet access."

Those two-thirds can't see Google Ads then :).

I hope it covers "Debug with breakpoints in Scala for the browser".
Re:What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons? on Friday June 14, 2013 @05:55PM (#5882746)
Apple did not invent gloss and aluminum, but they give them their special style. Also flat rectangles look like... em... typical windows :).
Re:What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons? on Friday June 14, 2013 @04:32PM (#5882322)
Yes, it's a matter of taste. Perhaps my analogy was a bit harsh :).
Re:What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons? on Friday June 14, 2013 @04:19PM (#5882245)
It looks like a dev did this one, not a designer :))).
Re:What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons? on Friday June 14, 2013 @04:14PM (#5882215)
The strong selling point of iOS is consistency and order across all concepts. To me Android is like a mutagenic factory sewage - anything is possible for better of worth.
Re:What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons? on Friday June 14, 2013 @04:11PM (#5882186)
It seems they can't go full non-skeuomorphic without looking like a WP rip-off? Finding new symbols for abstract concepts is even harder though, some will stay until we have brain-computer interfaces that will give us new senses.
Re:"Microsoft engineer" on Xbox1 on Friday June 14, 2013 @03:11PM (#5881828)
So, what you promise us is that games will cost less then on PS4? That's a strong selling point!
... and other geeks. Recruiters and managers want something black and white, un-styled and printable. Good as a personal project for actual CV though.
Re:Golang 10x faster than Ruby for web APIs on Friday June 14, 2013 @03:01PM (#5881765)
Slow train on rails is probably better then a fast one without :).

Did you mean 'study an a uni'?

Did you mean 'graduate and find your first job'?

Re:iOS 7 looks familiar on Tuesday June 11, 2013 @03:45PM (#5864252)
My point is that you could expect such an obvious decision as making a mix of UX styles of two other competing platforms to be executed a bit better.
Re:iOS 7 looks familiar on Tuesday June 11, 2013 @03:31PM (#5864180)
It's a cross between WP and Android. It's a very strange feeling when you realise you could do a better job at UX design then a multi-billion company.
Re:Income Distribution in London on Friday June 07, 2013 @03:08PM (#5840983)
Well UK is socialistic. Probably more benefits then in USSR.
Re:Income Distribution in London on Friday June 07, 2013 @03:07PM (#5840977)
Hopefully tories will change that at least a bit. I personally think families do not belong in central London.
Re:Income Distribution in London on Friday June 07, 2013 @03:04PM (#5840961)
Well, devs can already consider themselves to be 1 in 1000. The quest is to be 1 in 100000 now.
Re:Income Distribution in London on Friday June 07, 2013 @03:03PM (#5840947)
Tip: you are not smarter then other buyers/renters. No offence but all the routes have been considered already. You always pay the price with time or money or lack of quality. Unless you work from home of course :).
Probably not as easy as resisting paying proper taxes...
Re:Are coders worth it? on Friday June 07, 2013 @06:28AM (#5838142)
"money, perks, freedom, respect"

Err... CEOs/CTOs/CFOs have that. You should add "reasonably minimal competitive" in front of each word when talking about web devs at an average company.

"Dive into something that compiles. ... Take some time, and write a small webapp in Django, Rails, Play Framework, Node, and anything else that sparks your fancy (and learn their accompanying languages)."

Err... None of that compiles - they get interpreted.
