He said data on WhatsApp would be kept separate too.

He lied. Again and again and again.

Come on now.

Don't try to make out like your choice to have a child is because you want to 'spread happiness'.

It's a biological imperative to perpetuate your genetic code and is the single most selfish and egotistical thing you can do with your life.

Don't delude yourself that it is anything different than any other species procreating.

> but the reality is that our lives continue to improve as a whole..not get worse.

This is true for some, not others.

I read once that women tend to do it for attention; like a cry for help in ways likely to fail such as pills, wrist cuts etc.

Men to do it to end their own existence and choose things like hanging, gunshot, jumping off a bridge etc.

As a Brit, I can confirm that there is a large section of our population that thinks the empire was a positive thing and pines for a return to it.

Even the 'white man's burden' is viewed by many as a necessary endeavour. It's the number one criticism I have of my own country (and I have many).

It's nationalist propaganda that panders to exceptionalism and it seems to have worked on half of the electorate unfortunately.

Why is it stupid to say Israel is guilty of human rights abuses?

This is why people are calling you a zealot.
Re:NY Times Blocking Incognito Browsers on Friday March 01, 2019 @05:36AM (#19279358)
the NYT has really done downhill over the years, so I'm exactly bristling at the thought of losing access to it.

Speak for yourself.
It's all for telemetry/data collection to fuel advertising.

Presuming to know someones mind better than they do themselves is the height of arrogance.

It's even more arrogant when you are citing fairy tales as the evidence that you have some insight into the subject that they do not.

> I work 80+ hours a week

Why?

Learning costs money, especially as an adult.

You still need to cover your basic expenses, homeless or not.

Every time a US company is fined there are people that claim it is all protectionism and punishment with nothing to back it up (ironic, considering the degree of protectionism the US engages in).

They are just sour that their precious tech companies are being brought to task for behaving like shitty house guests by not following the rules.

These companies might be able to get away with whatever the hell they please back home but get this; the American Way isn't the only way.

It's just a very shitty dismissal of the very real concerns of US tech companies and their disregard for the laws and regulations in the countries in which they operate. Laws and regulations that EU companies have to follow too.

The only real upset here comes from companies like Google, and their rabid supporters at the prospect of them not being able to implement their shitty consumer-hostile, ring-fencing business model in other countries.

Google were given two year's notice before this fine. TWO YEARS.

It's their own damn fault and the fine is punitive, as it should be.

Re:Why Use OpenStreetMap Instead of Google Maps? on Monday July 16, 2018 @04:53AM (#17539722)
This has to be sarcasm.
The fact that you equate wanting to be alone in nature with mental illness highlights how fucked up we have become as a society.
If you want to be overly reductionist about it, everything you will do in your life is a waste of time.
Why is that our problem?

The average person won't spend that much on a mobile device.

Moral relativism will stop the day you prove God exists and you get his signature on a universal code of morality.
> Some people having different ideas about what's exciting needn't necessarily lead to solitude.

You're kind of proving his point by saying this as if solitude is undesirable, when clearly it is desirable to him (which I understand completely).

Re:Why is it hard to make friends over 30? (2012) on Monday February 26, 2018 @05:19AM (#16464317)
I meant politically.

The idea that people naturally veer to the right of the political spectrum as they age is a myth.

Re:Apple's privacy feature costs ad companies millions on Wednesday January 10, 2018 @07:28AM (#16114445)
Numerous times in this thread you have argued against something nobody said.

You do not argue in good faith.

How does any of that about Hitler relate to his policy of exterminating Jews? It's not as if his dietician and Eva Braun were nicer to him he would have decided not to implement the final solution. That's ridiculous.

Once people start actively calling for the deaths of others based on race or religion or creed, that's where the fundamentally opposing ideologies are found that are only resolved through violence.

The lesson we should be learning from history is that appeasing racist fascists doesn't improve things, it only emboldens them by validating their beliefs as acceptable.

I'm not advocating stripping humanity from anyone, because I am fully aware that it is humans who create and commit these abhorrent acts. White nationalists, neo-nazis, whatever you want to call them are absolutely human. They are also all total shithouses that pose a threat to stability and harmony in the same way ISIS do.

They either stop what they are doing, or the blood of both sides runs in the streets. They are the only two options when it comes to beliefs like this. The problem is, the blood running in the streets is often what they want, and what we get.

How do you empathise with a actual Nazi?

Would you empathise with Reinhardt Heydrich? How?

Re:US Dept of Commerce puts 220% tariff on Bombardier on Wednesday September 27, 2017 @10:07AM (#15347902)
Worker protections, guarantered 20+ paid holidays a year, paid maternity leave, an organisation attempting to clamp down on tax avoidance schemes, a willingness to take US tech giants to task that believe they are above the law, access to the worlds largest economy, generous EU funding schemes directed to deprived areas of member states that their own governments have demonstrated time and time again that they are not willing to do themselves.

I mean, that's just off the top of my head.

Nobody thinks the EU is perfect and it can improve in many ways, but your lies don't convince anyone of anything.

One benefit is not drilling holes in my walls to run speaker wire all over the place.

Another benefit is not having an audio player tethered in one place.

A third benefit is being able to change the audio settings from any one of a half dozen devices in my house.

Okay, but that's just wireless tech. Why do they need to be constantly connected to the internet and phoning home?

> but you make it sound as if someone wants to enslave for the purpose of enslaving.

I have no doubt in my mind that some people do want this.

It took him a while didn't it.

His first response is the most significant.
