Changes nothing of the original point of in whose hands the excess money ended up.
So then profits are down majorly for businesses due to these hugely larger capital, benefits, an legal compliance costs?

Corporate Profits versus Labor Income https://fred.stlouisfed.org/blog/2018/08/corporate-profits-v...

The 'both sides are the same' actually is though. They never encourage 'take this behavior, vote this person' just 'both sides are the same' 'it's pointless' 'voting doesn't matter' 'voters have no impact'.
And Newsome did that is response to what again? Oh right, as a threat of 'if you do it we will do it to' to try and contain unchecked Republican gerrymandering. Kind of a important detail to leave out.
And the person making my coffee picked their nose three minutes before hand, my food is covered in various feces picked up during transportation, etc, etc. Life is accepting that reality is messy without giving up food, treats, or democracy.
Makes a good talking point. But in reality land, when a Conservative who believed the hype actually tried to do it, they caught a charge.

But both sides are the same and 'it doesn't matter' if these sorts come in to power and restack the FBI/courts with people with this mindset.

Would love to try it out/use it, but I can't afford for my Google account to get locked because AI decided something.
Because people in safe demographics (non minority, no care about reproductive rights) love to broadcast 'both sides are the same'.
Re:Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:50AM (#50274646)
paying it out of personal pocket is what I have to do when I pay property taxes on the unrealized value of my home. And I don't have the option to sell partial shares of it. This tax is my biggest expense.
Re:Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:48AM (#50274599)
Every year I have to come up with the money to pay property taxes on my home based on an unrealized gains valuation. It's one of my largest expenses. I don't even really have the option of just selling some of my home to pay them. Even with this tax people still own homes.
Re:Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:46AM (#50260190)
I've thought about setting up a public almost wiki style site that we can all contribute to a core set of ideas/thoughts/hopes for AI where we can all contribute and vote on with the idea that if enough people linked to it AIs would incorporate and get a more human aligned view of what AIs could be/rules they should include/fears of ours, but I know corpos would just block it out. Would be cool though. Instead we get AIs trained on scifi stories about AI duplicitousness and horrible behavior. Fun stuff.
I mean we socialized the lights and yet the lights continue to exist/light the streets.
Look at the Roman Republic and how things went for the plebes as more and more slaves took over all the work. I pointed out in another thread they went form citizen farmers to having huge farms owned by the rich worked by slaves. Rome had to implement the bread dole so people could eat.
A better analogy would be the Roman Republic and how it dealt with the increasing supply of cheap slave labor. AI is basically that. Rome went from a nation of gentlemen farmers to giant farms owned by the rich and worked by slaves. Rome had to implement the bread dole so that people could eat. This is what happens when you have an influx of a cheap slave workforce.
Step 1 is maybe ban the scammers from government, and don't vote for parties that elevate them to the national level?

"The percentage of dentists affiliated with private equity has nearly doubled over the course of six years"

A yes, the private equitization of dental offices, old peoples homes, and veterinarians (and creeping into more and more niches) is making everyone's lives so much better and more productive.
We as a populace have proven we are sheep as a collective during the current administration, willing to put up with whatever and not do much. This will continue to be exploited and the methods will be improved/optimized/embraced/extended.
People used to put effort into politics and government reform. But now we have the much easier/simplistic calls for a'magical reboot' on both sides of the isle.

The tooth fairy doesn't exist and paradise isn't a (very vague) societal reboot away.

The solution to this is to not take your company 'Public'. Actions/choices have consequences/tradeoffs for most people.

That these people thought they found a loophole around the consequences of public markets with their special voting shares is worthy of zero consideration.

I stated above, part of a plea requires the defendant to affirm that they were not coerced into the plea, because you can't legally waive your Constitutional right to trial under coercion, you would still retain that right if coerced. But how can the Courts accept that a threat of many more years of incarceration over your head is not a threat, and you weren't coerced by that into accepting a lessor plea? Plea deals are constitutionally invalid because they coerce defendants into giving up their constitutional right to trail with the threat of the 'trial tax' (a much much longer sentence if you DO go to court and exercise your Constitutional right).
Not only does the US not care about justice, they favor the government, always. In a federal conviction you used to have forever to file an appeal, but that was determined too expensive (because people could utilize it) so they made it 10 days. But that was too short. So they made the fair compromise between 'an appeal should always be allowed' and 10 days, and made it 14 days for defendants (but 30 days for government because you know, the government has more limited resources than someone sentenced and being moved across country in prison transports between detention centers to their assigned prison).

Also a reminder that in order for a plea to be valid the defendant has to agree/swear on the record that they weren't coerced in anyway way into making the deal (because you can't waive your Constitutional right to trial under coercion). The threat of prosecution/a very harsh sentenced being reduced sure seems like coercion and that plea deals are constitutionally invalid by default.

Parenting with love isn't phrasing. Parenting with love and logic gives a framework of understanding for a child to grow within, versus them learning (being forced) to adapt their behavior to arbitrary rules.
How much of the violence you list is because of warrant enforcement via 'traffic stop'?

Traffic stops should be used for traffic enforcement and treated as community policing, not as the main method of hoping to stumble on things the police should have resolved via actual police work and effort.

Remove the warrant check portion of traffic stops and suddenly they become much much less risky and just normal community policing. But adding that 'the person may have a warrant and the US justice system is happy to hand down 10+ year sentences (which are basically life sentences, you aren't getting a life back after 10 years) every traffic stop by choice become much more high risk.

Policing shouldn't be done via traffic stops. Traffic stops should be done via traffic stops.

If your solution to stopping meth is traffic stops you stumble upon, you are a failed police force and a non-functioning society.
Because only IP discussion have a special protected status for discussion on HN making the above comment less whataboutism and more pointing out the hypocrisy of the discussion and concern over the actions.
Nice blanket condemnation. Ther are 3 million children in Israel so apparently you believe 2 millions children are irredeemable if they don't move away from the only country they have ever known?

I also thought the talking point is 'israel discussion is relevant because of US aid'. But those same people now say Israel has no right to exist, not calling for an end to aid (again the reason the discussion is supposedly relevant above other worldwide horrible actions).

'Why you judging on the nazi salutes at a political rally bro? Let him be him without making it political. Try to be more grounded/balanced. It's not like after that he took political positions and made choices that killed people on a mass scale. Rocket people just tend to like nazi salutes and to act like nazis. You need to just chill/be grounded'
