Honest question: would many developers reject a job based upon the version control system the company uses? Or the laptop OS given for that matter?

Any advice on how to safeguard against this?

There’s numerous videos pouring in of individuals going into local businesses to harass and threaten employees while flaunting they aren’t wearing masks.

These individuals likely don’t represent the majority. But it doesn’t feel like just a few bad apples.

What’s wrong with static IP assignments? Doesn’t this solve the issue?
You could put it in a lambda function.
Re:Olympus quits camera business after 84 years on Thursday June 25, 2020 @07:46PM (#23647102)
While the high price of an A7 probably slowed new customers rushing to Sony over Olympus I think the primary reason customers stuck with Olympus was "vendor lock-in" with lens mounts. People likely bought multiple m43 mount lenses to go with their Olympus or Panasonic. A customer would be more likely to buy another one of these brands if they had an existing lens collection over switching to the A7.

Note: I am reluctant to use the term vendor lock-in as the idea behind m43 was to have multiple camera manufacturers adopt a common lens mount. The fact that Sony and Canon have their own mounts is a net negative in my opinion.

Why do you think that?

I thought fake reviews were typically from humans? Bot protection / human verification seems like the wrong front to be tackling.

I think you misunderstand how much planes cost. Many GA pilots aren’t rich. You can by a Cessna 150 for $16k as an example:

The pilot of this is likely not some rich individual undergoing clandestine operations.

Re:The Light Phone on Saturday January 04, 2020 @03:06AM (#21953601)
Quick search on Apple store (Canada prices):

Watch series 540mm, sports band, gps + cellular: $659 AirPods and regular charging case: $219 Combo = $878

iPhone 11 = $979

You could pick different models to make either case true (eg. iPhone XR is $799, watch series 3 cellular is $429). But nonetheless watch + AirPods is pretty close to the price of a phone it seems!

Re:The Light Phone on Saturday January 04, 2020 @02:56AM (#21953575)
Are you sure about that? On an iPhone I can delete three of those apps (just verified). Android doesn’t allow the same?
Re:Why Canada's cannabis bubble burst on Sunday December 29, 2019 @04:51AM (#21905078)
In downtown Vancouver the government website only lists one “legal” cannabis store yet a quick google search shows +20 listings:

https://justice.gov.bc.ca/cannabislicensing/map

I would suspect that many people purchasing on the black market are in fact purchasing from stores (not just “their weed guy”) but don’t realize the store is not properly licensed.

Also it’s not pronounced to-may-toe. It’s pronounced to-ma-to.

I don’t believe aircraft size matters. It depends on what airspace you operate the aircraft within.

I think Beats are the only other headphones (not buds) with the w1 / h1 chipset.

How would you know they are plotting terrorist attacks before you started spying?
Two years of patience?

You can still open source in-progress software.

Do a lot of first year computer science students get paid $75k/year?

I know internships can easily earn that but my understanding is they go to 4th year students.

Re:Submit Your Claim in the Equifax Breach Settlement on Thursday July 25, 2019 @02:24PM (#20527983)
A security researcher setup a similar domain with a phishing page. Equifax made the mistake of linking to his page rather than their own on twitter!!!

Resolution is not the same. It’s limited to 480p.

Makes sense. I’m totally in agreement here.

Re:Former Equifax CIO sentenced for insider trading on Saturday June 29, 2019 @04:28PM (#20314588)
That he did not get off the hook with minimal impact to his life. That it is not simply “4 months in jail” and a whole bunch of extra cash in his pocket.
Re:Former Equifax CIO sentenced for insider trading on Saturday June 29, 2019 @03:54PM (#20314434)
The impact of this charge is much greater than $500k. How much in fees did he pay lawyers to get the plea deal? What are the chances he will get hired as a CIO again? This has significantly long-lasting impact on his life and career.
Re:Former Equifax CIO sentenced for insider trading on Saturday June 29, 2019 @03:41PM (#20314367)
Maybe I am overestimating what he earned in a year. Tried a quick search to figure out what % of his take home income this was.

I am not sure at what point I would start to consider 4 months in jail for insider trading “worth it” (again this was a plea deal, could’ve been higher).

If all your personal wealth is tied up in a single company’s stock then you obviously run a risk of losing it all. The solution to that is diversifying your portfolio, not insider trading.

Re:Former Equifax CIO sentenced for insider trading on Saturday June 29, 2019 @03:27PM (#20314288)
If I was a CIO of a large company, I would not spend 4 months in jail just to gain $500k extra. Not worth it.
If they went to that extreme maybe they’d block AWS altogether. Or all SSL traffic!
Do you think its better to have an iPhone powered down or on?

I am wondering if it would be possible to leverage remote wipe features, but maybe the border agents power off the device or put it in a bag / container that blocks cellular signals.

This came to mind as well great suggestion.

I haven’t used MythTV in years but I remember it being quite decent at commercial detection. Sometimes it missed the boundary between show and commercial by 1-2s, but otherwise was great.

(I bet they check for volume changes as one of the algorithms)

It’s a bit absurd that the mechanism to detect the failure is a paid upgrade!
