I love stories like this.
Just thinking of out with the old, it mentions there are only 100,000 payphones left in america from 2 million.
Is there any value in maintaining payphones or will they all ultimately go? I dunno, it seems of value for emergencies, say one gets into an accident late and night and your phone is damaged, a payphone was impretty much in walking distance, now not so much.
Same with copper landlines. My mom still uses an old school phone that doesn't need power. A bad storm hit a few years back and everyone was without power for three days, but my mom still had phone access, unlike the rest of us scrambling to charge our phones.
It was the most reliable communications network we made and to just let it go seems wrong.
I used to go all the time, just walking in there gave me this good feeling. like many industries, the internet killed it.
Old comment now but I'll reply anyway. I approve of what Trudeau did in that he temporarily stopped foreign buyers. But not only do I call bullshit on his reasoning I think foreign buyers of homes should never be allowed.
So ideally he shouldn't have to give this bullshit reason as they never should have been for sale on the global market in the first place.
That he would use this bullshit excuse tells me what type of person he is. But that's politicians.
There's another case with bette Midler and I think it was a Superbowl ad. They approached Midler, she said no, they hired a sounds like, she sued and won.
With sj, they approached her 6 months ago, she declined, and again just prior to launch to which she didn't respond. And Sam tweets one word 'her'.
This is a slam dunk and they will lose.
Well, about a year ago he put a 2 year ban on foreigners purchasing homes. But his reason for doing this was housing market fluctuations due to COVID. Due to COVID?!
The housing market has gone to insane levels. Certainly it's not all due to foreign buyers, but why as a citizen would I want to compete on the global market for our homes? The answer is I never want to complete globally for something that should sell locally. But government never wants to stand in the way of inflows of foreign money.
Anyone I know with a home in Canada expresses the sentiment, 'thank god I got in when I did or I'd never own a home.'. And they're right, they shouldn't be, but they are.
You started with fertility rate and switched to birth rate. The world fertility rate is 2.4 so just a bit above the maintenance 2.1 level.
But in pretty much all developed countries the fertility rate is well below replacement rates and no signs of it levelling off.
In developed countries, more and more the norm is to not have children, or fewer of them later and later in live.
Personally I don't think it's a good thing when we start closing schools cause there's not enough children to attend them but that's just me.
Google Books is indexing low quality, AI-generated books that will turn up in search results, and could possibly impact Google Ngram viewer, an important tool used by researchers to track language use throughout history.
If the site blew up in popularity how would you plan to continue moderating the voicemails?
I want a frontend where I control suggestions. If I'm watching something where I want more of that topic, I would then click 'suggest more like this' if I don't and it's just some stupid one-off video it won't suggest similar going forward.
Do any alt-frontends have that functionality?
I tried with vlc years ago and wasn't impressed with results. Maybe it has gotten better. But I had thought, wouldn't a process be needed that would prescan the entire file to determine the highs and lows of the audio?
What about parody? South park made fun of Mickey mouse a few times and they didn't change his name. Say I make a cartoon crackhead mickey where he's on the pipe and bangs hookers. Then I want to release a toy of my parody. Im joking but I don't think anyone has ever released toys of parody. Parody is under fair us,would that also extend to merchandise stemming from the parody?
You know CPAP has 50% compliance right? A huge amount of patients never get used to it. And even of those that stick to it, they struggle through the night with it. They define successful CPAP treatment as 4 hours or more a night, when 4 hours is obviously insufficient.
Some people want to watch the world sneeze
If there are 111 different mutations, does that mean that a common vaccine is highly improbable/impossible?
If you don't mind physically opening the laptop, you open it and take out the CMOS battery, boot it up without it then shut it down and put the CMOS battery back in and boot. The BIOS password will no longer bet set. I don't know if this still works but it used to on older laptops.
Testosterone also leads to risk taking. Stupid risks and smart ones. Testosterone plus intelligence may be why there are more male cofounders/CEO's...
Not knowing much about less, are any of these cheap ones just as good as the premium ones? I'd also like a bulb that could be changed to an orangish hue at night to block out blue light. From what I read a lot of them emit little light when changed to orange.
There's a good docu on her story. It might be on YouTube.
I don't know much about this, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but plant based omega 3's have a horrible conversion rate don't they?
I was wondering about. Thinking about what exactly brought Sars under control.
It is because of the wealth disparity. A massive chunk of the population lives in absolute poverty. I don't see them fixing that anytime soon.
Just saying with running you might want to take at least a day if not two off for your knees to recover.
Both. There were more 3d movies last year that are not listed so the site isn't up to date. But 3d is dying too. Kind of a shame as 3d looks amazing in vr. It finally has a good use case.
Really interesting thx. I feel a little bad for complaining about the speed after what she went through. I could understand them wanting to drop the fX chip version, but they used slower ram to save on 50 cemts a cart. I appreciate the optimisations she put in but at the end of the day, it does suffer from slowdowns. Again, maybe an emu can address them.
Did any other version have the sound of the SNES? That was my first experience with the game and love the sound effects and musical score. I believe the PlayStation or the Sega CD version had a technically higher quality score, but sounded completely different which was off-putting to me.
The drawback of the SNES version is there are a few parts where it suffers from slowdowns. I wonder could they somehow be addressed in an emulator.
I know it was one of the last to get it, but my first experience with this game was the SNES version. The SNES version has some horrible slowdowns at parts, but the musical score is amazing! I was disappointed to hear other versions didn't have tat score. I haven't checked all the versions, is it unique to the snes? Does anyone know if any other version has that music? I was hoping the 20th anniversary would have had it but it doesn't.
Btw it's not as good but the sequel, heart of the alien, is only on the segacd.
I hunted down a Sega CD and Genesis just to play it.
If you have never had edibles I'd proceed with caution. Weed is much more psychoactive when ingested and lasts way longer. If you take too much, you'll be in a bad place for hours instead of 45 min with smoking.
I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me!
I haven't read the article yet but I've heard stats like this before. Is it simply the effect of a positive emotional state? When my friend and I were talking about this I said:
'Be happy. Or else.'
