In 1996 when it was a proposed idea the estimated cost was 500 million USD and the proposed launch was 2007. But the design kept getting more and more lofty and the project got more and more complex. The initial estimate was a bit off, it has cost about 9.6 billion USD so far.
Still though, if everything works and we learn more about the universe, I think it'll have been worth it.
There was a thread on here a while back where people would set up cameras and be able to make a motion image showing what parts moved with a regular frequency. Was being used at factories to determine points of failure via vibration. Can't find the thread now though.
Quantum tunneling is a step into weird.
Browsers have conditional breakpoints available in their tools/debuggers so you can write them without changing the code.
Not being first to market I guess?
I think there's still some spaces where new fonts thrive: company branding, movies, and television.
Woah, quadruple A games? Did you work at The Initiative?
"htmx is small (~10k min.gz'd)"
Maybe I'm crazy, but that sounds huge based on the list of features in the docs. Would be interesting to see a breakdown of the features and how much of that size they take up.
Agreed, you can do the same thing with React too. Just add script tags with React and ReactDOM and away you go, no need for anything else.
It is a cool story, but I had no idea that remote control arms were called waldoes when I read it haha.
The difference is exactly that you wouldn't notice and the other person would. There's a difference between a recurring piece of media being a drop in the bucket and having a specific thing you look forward to watching or listening to every week. If one week you're waiting for it to drop and it's mysteriously absent you might suspect something is wrong.
Seems reasonable to me.
Honestly, I think the other factor is having a good set of microphones trained on the audience. Sometimes what looks like a presenter pausing too early is really just the mics not picking up the milder scattered applause that then builds up and gets heard after they pause.
The whole thing is a production, and having a good setup can radically change people's experience of it.
I think what the parent was saying is important though, that 700mb of "data" isn't complete. It's basically just really really good compression that requires the runtime of our universe to work properly. The way proteins form and interact, the way physics works, etc are all requirements for that DNA to be able to realize itself as complex thinking human beings.
I wish my city had a western-themed "hair saloon"! Curlers at dawn.
GIFs are inefficient and pretty resource intensive, if possible use video formats instead. Modern machines are optimized for running video so they work quite a bit better.
Yeah, Garry's Mod + Wiremod
I feel like I've searched for sketchy stuff before and it's almost always in response to something on twitter or reddit where someone claims something that feels ridiculous and so I go on google to see if it's legit or not.
If they're willing to implicate an innocent person, don't you think they might also fabricate a crime?
Last time I was visiting Japan my friends with Apple phones were able to add their physical cards to their phones and then top up their suica/pasmo cards digitally but I had Android and it was impossible.
loser* not looser.
(I wouldn't normally comment on mistakes like this but this is an increasingly common mistake online)
It's also very possible for existing employees to require accessibility as time goes on. Either old age or an accident can leave them less able than before.
You don't even have to read the paper, it's in the FAQs:
"Can't you just apply some filter, or compression, or blurring algorithm, or add some noise to the image to destroy image cloaks?"
Short answer: No not really. Long answer: Look at the FAQs :)
I guess Bluehost doesn't have any auth scheme so they had to use the age old workaround of just sharing passwords... not great at all.
Also, you missed the fact that there's a typo on that line at the very end!
> Your password for Bluehost (double check that you spelled this right!)e
There's also the line above the password part:
> Once you've purchased your hosting - forward the confirmation email you received to: [email protected]
Which since I don't have I can't confirm if it has any sensitive information or not.
Hardly ever the case in GUI-land? That doesn't sound right at all. You can do the same kind of piecemeal work with GUIs that you do in the command line. Unless every piece of GUI software you use has a proprietary file format (which isn't unique to GUI software) it's all composable. Photos, videos, text files, etc. are all interoperable.
One contrived but possibly very common workflow for video creators: snip out a piece of a video with one tool, record new video from webcam with another, edit an image with photoshop, create sound effects in sfx util, create/record music with another, import all of the above into video editor and export a composited/rendered out video, do more lossless video compression/reduction with another utility.
