Re:How to Delete Your 23andMe Data on Wednesday March 26, 2025 @04:08PM (#43486643)
This feels as hopeless as trying to keep your email/contacts from social media sites. Even if you are vigilant about never allowing an app/service to download your contacts, your friends will share theirs and it is trivial to recreate your contact list. If I keep my DNA from these companies, my relatives will share theirs and they basically have my DNA.
Any pointers on the post-processing software? Anything to correct red-tinted slide scans?

Re:Twitter plans to comply with Musk’s demands for data on Tuesday June 14, 2022 @12:50PM (#31742192)
This is wrong and if it's the same idea floating around Twitter based on page 17 of the 13D, it's definitely wrong. People are misinterpreting a reference to no longer being subject to seller's due diligence because financing has been secured, i.e. the buyer is qualified.

Re:NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings on Wednesday August 04, 2021 @02:49PM (#28064702)
"To answer your last question (presumably non-rhetorical) I worry about unvaccinated people allowing for mutations via community spread..."

Then you also should worry about Antibody-Dependent Enhancement (ADE).

"...as well as getting sick when they didn't have to, hurting themselves while taking up healthcare resources in the process."

Like obese people?

What is with the downvotes? What am I missing that I should know because I don't see anything out of place with this post? (serious question)

Google Oxford comma. It’s not simply a comma before an ‘and’.
Re:Being kind to others is good for your health on Sunday December 20, 2020 @12:48PM (#25488071)
Does watching people be kind to others also have health benefits? I’ve noticed quite a bit of videos on YouTube about tipping people large sums of money or giving away items to strangers and use that as evidence that people like to watch them. Are people attracted (not consciously) to the same mental/physical benefit?
"Despite having obvious signs of illness, the Maplecrest employee went to work that day, and the next."

"The York County Jail employee showed up for an eight-hour shift despite having COVID-19 symptoms. It was the first of five consecutive days of work for the employee..."

I see the main problem not as the wedding, because an infection can frankly happen anywhere, but as a failure to accommodate people who feel they can't miss work even though they are ill (need the money, fear repercussions, policy that limits sick days, etc.). I don't believe the individuals intentionally exposed others, but felt they had no other choice.

Re:Suicide Linux (2009) on Thursday October 01, 2020 @02:48PM (#24654699)
Should be called Landmine Linux as most times, suicide is not accidental whereas stepping on a Landmine usually is. Entertaining project none-the-less. Thanks.
I had my username (three letters, my initials) taken and replaced with initials + underscore + number (xxx_123). No comment from GH or even alert they were changing it. I guess someone with friends at GH decided they wanted it. What can you do...

Re:How Apple Kills Indie Developers on Thursday September 26, 2019 @04:12PM (#21085001)
Feels like there are some pieces missing from the story.

This isn't a "we won't approve your app because it's not following the app guidelines" rejection or an app stuck in review purgatory. (I once had an Apple TV app stuck in review for 10 weeks before it magically was approved with no changes from me.) This is a "your account did something it shouldn't have done" flag. The whole account is suspended for an alleged infraction of "App Store Review Guidelines’ Developer Code of Conduct". Did your account do contract work on other "spammy" apps or similar? Even if you worked on completely different apps, it's not unprecedented for Apple to just blow the whole account up if it's in any way tied.

Edit to add Code of Conduct:

5.6 Developer Code of Conduct Please treat everyone with respect, whether in your responses to App Store reviews, customer support requests, or when communicating with Apple, including your responses in Resolution Center. Do not engage in harassment of any kind, discriminatory practices, intimidation, bullying, and don’t encourage others to engage in any of the above. Customer trust is the cornerstone of the App Store’s success. Apps should never prey on users or attempt to rip-off customers, trick them into making unwanted purchases, force them to share unnecessary data, raise prices in a tricky manner, charge for features or content that are not delivered, or engage in any other manipulative practices within or outside of the app.

Re:Designing Websites for iPhone X on Friday September 22, 2017 @01:58PM (#15314296)
Out of the box, Safari displays your existing websites beautifully on the edge-to-edge display of the new iPhone X. Content is automatically inset within the display’s safe area so it is not obscured by the rounded corners, or the device’s sensor housing.

Default behavior is for you to do nothing to your code and Safari on the X will automatically pad around the inset and rounded corners. This is just if you _want_ to take advantage of the whole screen.

Why is this down voted? It's absolutely verifiable. You can watch the keynote and then go read the headlines lambasting the decision. It's why the phone launched in Summer 2007 but the App Store launched in Summer 2008.
Re:Campuses must combat growing zeal for censorship on Saturday May 06, 2017 @07:00PM (#14282744)
Why would you need to imagine it's Hitler giving a speech on a campus? How could that possibly be worthwhile, useful, or relevant? [Though it is telling that you used it as an example.]

If the speaker was invited by students/faculty to speak to interested parties, they shouldn't require police escorts. Period.

Why are you so certain they are Russian?
I'm intrigued by how you take math notes with paper. Would it be possible to see an example (as a pdf, doc, whatever)?
If the celiacs meant the carbs were less well converted to glucose and that's why your levels stayed normal, why not just eat less carbs now?
