Question from someone who knows nothing about aviation, is it possible that the pilot did that knowing they were doomed?

I’ve always wondered what % of ad clicks are just misclicks.
> are being assumed to be a political responsibility so quickly by some and asking for the minister resignation

It sucks but that's how it is over here. It's "my" party the one in power when a catastrophe like this happens? It's not the politicians, it's someone else. Is it the "other" party? Surely the politicians are ultimately responsible.

This reflects on the news media as well.

> they don't get paid a fortune

Salary for ministers is around 80k euro per year. Yes significantly more than the minimum salary but hardly a fortune.

If it’s an LLM it’ll be 47.

In lots of places, including where I live (center of one of the largest European cities) charging at home is not an option, for now at least.

How long until the LLMs run circles around the best software “architect” out there?

Including those with Lean verifications?

There’s a reason they put the “US” in “the most capable US open weight model”.

> a well designed program will not have any bugs or unforeseen failures at al;

You can only say that of either a very simple program or perhaps one with formal verification (which is overkill for 99.99% of software that gets written).

Look at the Linux kernel, arguably a well designed system (unless you ask Tanenbaum) with top notch developers, and still is full of bugs and security holes.

Reminds me of that email from Bill Gates about trying to install Movie Maker.

Those reckless decision makers are also responsible for Node’s popularity.
Due to AI I've been thinking a lot lately about his "I've just become extinct" quote.
It's a 4 seater no? Even if the rear seats are small.
Re:Feeling Sad about AI on Friday September 11, 2026 @03:59PM (#49664498)
I see two groups of optimistic people about all this.

First, the “OMG I’ve always been a builder, I’m having so much fun”. Yeah, building hobby projects. They’re called a hobby for a reason, they are not means to sustain yourself or your loved ones, particularly when the guy next to you can spin up an AI agent and ask “build me this”.

Then the “coding was never the hard part/where I spent most of my time, engineering is still hard”. Yeah, maybe it still is, but for how long? 2 years? 3?

Both strike me as naive and myopic, but I really wish I’m the one who’s wrong.

Re:Feeling Sad about AI on Friday September 11, 2026 @03:41PM (#49664244)
I think the “I’m sad” camp are mainly worried about their livelihood. You’re having fun but all of those things you listed are mere hobbies that won’t generate any money, particularly in a world where the next guy can spin up some AI agent, point to whatever you built and ask it “build me this”.
Sad as it might sound, I think we might have to stop worrying about the code.
Re:GPT-6 Astra on Friday September 04, 2026 @03:08AM (#49561460)
That’s like that scene in the I, Robot movie when Will Smith’s character is asking the robot “can you turn an emtpy canvas into a work of art, or compose a symphony?” and the robot replies “can you?”.

Re:How is the Bun Rewrite in Rust going? on Monday July 27, 2026 @09:14AM (#49069260)
Some thoughts:

- just because it doesn’t help 99.9% of the companies today it doesn’t mean it won’t help them tomorrow

- 0.01% of the companies employ a much bigger percentage of people

- 99.9% of companies won’t need to do a project of this magnitude

> we’re approaching $800k in money spent on this rewrite.

That’s peanuts, if not the shells of the peanuts, for a project and company of this magnitude

To be honest if you're using JSON at any point in your stack you have the same issue.

So sad. Jurassic Park had a tremendous impact on me as a dino obsessed teenager ( was 13 when it came out). RIP.
A butterfly flaps its wings in Tokyo and we lose a leap second.
A few years back I got a couple of Adidas running shorts. Instead of the typical drawstring they had some continuous string. To this day I've no idea how it was supposed to be used, I just cut it off and voila, a regular drawstring.
The current government has little chance to get re-elected, and the next one will revert most of these decisions.
