Re:Germans turn to balcony solar panels to save money on Wednesday January 08, 2025 @08:32AM (#42634000)
These things just plug into a power outlet. Requirement for Austria is a Smart Powermeter, because the old, analog ones would run in reverse if the solar panels produced more then you are currently using. They may not exceed 800W and are required to turn off if no power grid is detected, e.g. during a power outage. Apart from that, just institutional conservatism and inertia as far as I know.

It's also cosmology, but for what it's worth, the solar system is moving at about 230km/s around the milky way so you could say every one of us is moving at such a number.

Re:Denmark recalls Korean ramen for being too spicy on Wednesday June 12, 2024 @04:55AM (#40655992)
Someone [0] mentioned that the spice package itself is closer to 250k SHU and only the final dish, noodles and all, is 10k. Since the oil from the spice package will be on the surface it will probably taste way hotter than for example a 10k sauce.

He is currently working on the 3rd evolution of the marble machine and posts build updates on this YouTube channel. Interesting intersection of music and machining content.
This is what I'm using, Shield => HDMI => TV => Optical => Soundbar. There are some settings on the TV to enable external speakers over optical, which format is sent (Dolby Digital, etc), and which format is accepted (bitstream) that you may need set. The Shield also has settings for which signal is sends. Works well for me after configuring it and I get Dolby Digital 5.1 (ac3 5.1) from my Shield to my LG C2 to my soundbar over optical.

Re:Noctua's NH-P1 – Simply Amazing on Sunday January 29, 2023 @05:58AM (#34566953)
Gamers Nexus have a video testing the NH-P1 fanless[0]. Without fans it wont handle as much and you are probably limited to about 65W TDP CPUs.

As a matter of fact, Noctua has a compatibility guide where they list the expected performance w/ and w/o a fan[1].

While not a replacement for independent reviews, Noctua provides compatibility lists with rough thermal headroom indicators[0].

They also have compatibility list for motherboards, cases and RAM to see if it will physically fit[1].

The Maestro cards that most dutch banks use are currently getting phased out and replaced with Mastercard or Visa debit cards [0]. These new cards include a new number that should work wherever credit cards are accepted.

EXPO breaks S3 sleep at least in some cases. A few motherboard vendors even disable the S3 state when EXPO is enabled.

I knew about the changed controller in the 970 Evo Plus, but I wasn't aware they also changed the 980 Pro. That's disappointing. Is there anyone left that isn't doing those shenanigans?

There is a 970 Evo, a 970 Pro and a 970 Evo Plus, but no 970 Evo Pro as far as I am aware. Would be interesting what model OP is actually talking about and if it is the same for other Samsung NMVe SSDs. I also prefer Samsung SSDs because they are reliably and they usually don't change parts to lower spec ones while keeping the same model number like some other vendors.

If you are running bind you can use my python script to aggregate various block lists into a zone file: https://github.com/Trellmor/bind-adblock
I don't know where you want to backup you games, but you can copy just the one game folder and remove the game afterwards from steam. To restore it move the folder back and "install" the game. Steam will verify the files and only download new/changed files. Should be faster the the backup option inside steam itself.

If you have a second hard drive (or maybe network drive, haven't tried) you can also create a steam library folder on that drive and just move the game to that library from within steam. That way it will still get updated.

Last week Microsoft also rereleased the Intel microcode updates package [1][2]. I kinda expect to see a new CPU flaw in the next few days.

My app also got taken down some months ago. I had a menu entry called Donation that linked to a web page containing a PayPal donation button. I'm guessing they are just looking for the string Donation in your app.
