I'd love to have some first hand experience.

My happiness peaked sometime around 10-11 years old, it's been downhill ever since
Re:Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @02:47PM (#46800603)
My CPU can run Windows 11 fine, but what I don't tolerate is full-screen ad pop-ups on my desktop.

When Win10 popped up an ad for Win11, I moved fully to Linux the next day.

99% of students had cafeteria lunch and I was one of a couple with a lunch box. Teachers in the hallway would see it and get mad until I showed them my sandwich lol.
Re:Why Are So Many Pedestrians Killed by Cars in the US? on Thursday October 09, 2025 @08:28AM (#45526666)
Not just the US, my village in Germany has a limit of 30 kph, people drive through with 60.
Re:Everything that's wrong with Google Search in one image on Thursday September 25, 2025 @03:00PM (#45377316)
My bank replaced it's banktown.com url with b-twn.com, I thought I was on a phishing site, but it's legitimate.

Re:Our love letter to Internet Relay Chat [video] on Saturday September 06, 2025 @01:41PM (#45151325)
I asked some really stupid questions on IRC when I first heard of this "Linux" thing as a kid. Good times!

Re:The Windows 10 emoji picker has been broken for a month on Friday August 08, 2025 @09:36AM (#44836766)
Any app/website/program/whatever where one might typically use an emoji usually has a button next to the input for selecting one.

So, yeah, I've never needed a dedicated emoji picker myself, even though I've had Rofimoji installed for a while.

Fritteuse.
Re:Using the internet without IPv4 connectivity on Sunday June 29, 2025 @07:29AM (#44412228)
Ha, I actually had to do this last year while setting up Arch Linux on my desktop.

I have to use this wifi dongle, but using IWD to connect somehow only gave me an ipv6 IP.

Most of the big sites worked, but trying to click links from a search engine was a 50/50 chance.

Thankfully, the Arch wiki was accessible, so I got it sorted out pretty quickly.

Re:You Don't Own the Word "Freedom" on Friday June 27, 2025 @08:21AM (#44396233)
Not what I said either. That's like saying we're segregating the Linux Mint from the Ubuntu users.
Re:You Don't Own the Word "Freedom" on Friday June 27, 2025 @06:34AM (#44395619)
Linux is just a base that people stack other software on top of. Audio crash? Pulse or Pipe wire?

Then the dozens of desktop environments, each doing things differently, split between X11 and Wayland.

I feel like blind devs should get together and make a distro that, out of the box, has as many accessibility features as possible, because it seems a lost cause to wait for some other distro to pick the right combination of tools.

It's about time they added AI features to paperclips.

Playing fine for me, also Firefox on Android.
Re:You Commit Three Felonies a Day (2013) on Sunday April 20, 2025 @02:17PM (#43745444)
Absolutely. I have a flawless record.
Re:What If We Made Advertising Illegal? on Saturday April 05, 2025 @07:12PM (#43597575)
I can still remember ads on TV from when I was a kid. Mind worms, embedded deep. And it makes me angry.
They also popped open a full screen Windows 11 ad after I closed a game last year. That's when I went back to Linux.

Re:Story of the two thousand stolen Playdate handhelds on Friday November 22, 2024 @06:02AM (#42212811)
Then you say "it's a handheld gaming device" and the matter is settled.
Those are called Vans.
Re:Looking for a Job Is Tough on Thursday November 14, 2024 @04:09AM (#42134372)
Oh, if you give it the old "pretty please" then of course no one is going to use AI.

Unless it's soccer time, then they're clad in flags and screaming "'SCHLAAAND!"

Re:Unix core utilities implemented in Haskell on Monday November 04, 2024 @05:40AM (#42040305)
Hear, hear.

I totally understand why developers love python, but as an end user I dread seeing the .py extension.

On Windows you have to either download the driver updates manually, or install that GeForce Experience thing that keeps them up to date for you.
Hah, I blame my job. Different shift every few days, always tired.

I'd love to try a fixed sleep schedule, but sometimes I don't get home until 2am, other times I have to get up at 7:30am.

On my days off, I can sleep 12 hours if I don't set an alarm. And I could easily do more, if I didn't force myself out of bed.
How can they be low? Here it's nearly 3 euros for a thimble of ice cream lol
Re: on Monday October 21, 2024 @09:01AM (#41903706)
I got my license in 2014, in Germany, and was taught to turn on the turn signal > check mirrors > turn your head to look over your shoulder and only then, when you're clear, do you merge.
