I think a lot of it comes from the inflated rhetoric they present themselves with. It's a chat application, it's not curing cancer.

When's the 710 getting finished?

This seems to be really common in the Bay Area and was one of the reasons I absolutely hated the city of Berkeley when I was there. You just can't direct traffic like this if your infrastructure can't handle the load to begin with; it's selfish beyond belief.

In Los Angeles, people were using Fullerton Road like this for years. The county finally got funding and actually realigned it to a proper road for people to use to commute on and the original Fullerton Road is back to what it was -- a small residential street.

What is so hard about reading Objective-C? I've seen this as a very common thread with people celebrating the arrival of Swift.

I'm not trying to be flippant and I understand that the named parameter format may throw some people for a loop, but I'm curious why it appears to be such a limiting factor in trying Objective-C.

Unfortunately, I've never found an in-depth discussion about the part about where they attempt to lure him to the United States so that he can be arrested. It always strikes me as a bit excessive.

That Valve worked with the FBI to get him sufficient permission to enter the US with the false pretense of getting a job seems to make this feel like much more personal than anything else.

And I'm left scratching my head as to what it really would have accomplished...

It is a reference to ``1984" and Big Brother. Their naming choice was mentioned in the original paper about it from 1999: http://www.icir.org/vern/papers/bro-CN99.html
Re:DragonFly BSD on Sunday December 08, 2013 @06:03AM (#6869472)
This entire statement seems rather disingenuous; to claim that Linux is not molded by corporate interests is questionable if not outright wrong (e.g. http://www.linuxfoundation.org/sites/main/files/publications...).

I think BSD lost momentum because of the AT&T litigation back in the early 1990s and that momentum helped and continues to help Linux achieve the success that it has.

It is possible to praise Linux without burying BSD.

There is plenty of blame to go around in what has made California such a dysfunctional state.

You cannot, however, take Proposition 13 and pretend it's not part of the problem.

If a proposition is put on the ballot most of the time it requires a simple majority. Three strikes and the prohibition on same-sex marriage were done by a simple majority.

Taxes?

A 66% approval is required thanks to Prop. 13.

California is like Scandinavia with no taxes.
