A few decades... Give it like 8
I do not work for goverment, I am fisherman!
Fish do not work that way. If humans nuke themselfs, fish will recover in a few decades.

It is active war zone. Civilian aircrafts should not be near it!
Re:My 3-year experiment as a digital nomad on Wednesday January 03, 2024 @04:19PM (#38860093)
It is very easy lifestyke, just use a van with proper equipment, not freaking tesla.
Re:My 3-year experiment as a digital nomad on Wednesday January 03, 2024 @04:18PM (#38860072)
A literal ton of cargo in a trailer is nothing extraordinary. Did you ever lived on a farm?
Re:U.S. cities opt to ditch their off-street parking minimums on Wednesday January 03, 2024 @02:06PM (#38858316)
Extra parking would bring in "poor" people who live in France, Italy or Germany but commute to work in Switzerland. Just another form of elitism.
Re:OpenBSD Workstation Hardening on Wednesday January 03, 2024 @12:27PM (#38856788)
Unsupported devices can always become somehow supported and enabled. To harden computer, you remove WiFi cards, cut on-board antennas, desolder mics and speakers, desolder USB ports...

I did that for computer that was used to sign bitcoin transactions offline. User typed hashes manually...

Re:Maestro: A Linux-compatible kernel in Rust on Wednesday January 03, 2024 @09:16AM (#38854267)
But that elimites purpose for Ada. Rust has better type system to deal with this.
Re:Maestro: A Linux-compatible kernel in Rust on Wednesday January 03, 2024 @07:57AM (#38853526)
If I remember correctly, Ada was much slower compared to C. Stuff like boundary checks on arrays has a cost.
Re:Cross-platform Rust rewrite of the GNU coreutils on Wednesday January 03, 2024 @07:34AM (#38853328)
This! I am horrified to touch anything old from GNU!
This already happened in UK.
It is the process that makes it hard and expensive. Even bringing this to court costs money.

Extracting money from normal people is nearly automated.

There is always some person punishable.

I bet it is not profitable to enforce such fines!

Speeding tickets are hard to prove. Normal small person just pays fines with zero cost to police. Big corporation have lawyers, and will fight it, with all camera evidence from self driving car...

They are clear with their agenda: new global payment and settlement system. Western financial systems are unreliable.

IE was pretty innovative, it introduced AJAX (async javascript requests...), web version of Outlook in 1998...

There was also Opera browser, pretty innovative, it introduced tabs, mouse gestures, user styles, no script, basic adblocking... It could run on anything, even phone without MMU.

I would invert the title a bit:

The quality of your life strongly depends on how many bad people you manage to avoid.

People are mostly OK and reasonable to deal with. Some super duper partner will not increase quality of your life 10 times. There is still work, kids and so on.

But bad partner or friend can easily make your life 10x worse, or even put you in jail.

> there are Diminishers and there are Illuminators.

Self-help bs. Normal people are too busy with their lives and paying bills , and will not do some monkey dance to "illuminate" your path.

We should setup refugee camps in neighbouring countries, until war is over.
Staying home with kids.

I just checked prices in India, tube of permethrin cream is 2 USD. Pretty insidious!

That fujitsu part is important. Many mainstream brands do not implement power states correctly, Fujitsu seems to be focused on power consumption quite lot.

Start Telegram channel. No big tech bs and very easy to run.
Re:IDEs we had 30 years ago on Sunday December 31, 2023 @08:54AM (#38824033)
That is some Stockholm syndrome...

8 GB RAM is very little. It will limit you as a developer, you will never get into containers, virtualization, AI...

If you are in Cape Town, get Linux laptop or minipc with external monitor. It all takes 19 volts, and you can power it from a car battery with simple voltage regulator. I have 8 core Ryzen with 4 TB SSD and 64GB RAM, it was less than 1000 USD.

M1 is nice, but has several limits. If it gets broken, it will be very difficult to service in South Africa...

Re:37C3: You Think It's Bad with Pluto? A History of the Planets on Saturday December 30, 2023 @05:17PM (#38819826)
3C273 is the brightest quasar, similar magnitude to Pluto. It changes brightness daily, as it consumes nearby stars. Perhaps more interesting subject, than yet another classification argument.

In some movies those are actual real money. Just the top layer.

Dealing with legislation, lawyers and legal compliance is soo expensive, they would rather use a few thousand real dollars for couple of hours.

Re:IDEs we had 30 years ago on Thursday December 28, 2023 @03:23PM (#38798145)
Perhaps consider better hardware, not some cheap chromebook. 4GB RAM is very little usage for advanced IDE.
