I'm uncomfortable with the undermining of privacy and democracy for potentially billions.

I think some ad hominem is just a little salve for that discomfort.

You're more than welcome to bring in a little disagreement, also.

Thanks,

Doesn't help the poor f@cker who already has colon cancer, though.
Re:Google Is Eating Our Mail on Friday April 26, 2019 @12:04PM (#19758965)
Fair play.

I like my emails with pesto sauce, tuna, and cheese ... wicked combination.

Keep kissing corporate @rse.

Some people don't use FB.

Some people would say FU to the thought of paying $2-3 to FB for anything.

Commenting on year 1 depreciation is like commenting that 2+2=4.
And they'll shrug at $5b ...

A fine is not enough in this situation ...

Conclusion of the year. Kudos.
Re:1980 Atari 800 ad: “It will never become obsolete” on Sunday April 21, 2019 @06:04AM (#19711402)
I did a google with fair results - but point me in a decent direction for my re-introduction? Thanks
Re:1980 Atari 800 ad: “It will never become obsolete” on Friday April 19, 2019 @02:27PM (#19701780)
Christ ... that brings back memories ...
Couldn't disagree more.

Hope FB crashes and burns ASAP.

Re:Network Determines Success More Than People Realize on Thursday April 04, 2019 @04:40PM (#19576887)
Of course there is ... "I think we all know that" sits, who knows, in the unconscious. Regularly bringing it to the conscious mind, like in this thread perhaps, reminds us of the possibility of making different, better choices should we have that power now, or one day.
Re:Why India's rich don't give their money away on Thursday April 04, 2019 @10:43AM (#19572872)
Ok then - you are one! LOL
Re:Why India's rich don't give their money away on Wednesday April 03, 2019 @11:24AM (#19564094)
Not implying you are one ... but if you're not a hypocrite, that shouldn't be a problem.
If it looks like a duck ...

Quack, quack!!!

Thanks, but to you and any other GOOGLE EMPLOYEES

Are you not internally aware of this?

Do you just carry on regardless?

What happens when you voice this issue internally?

As an ex-Google fan boy, the title of this article has been true for years and it's what poisoned me (and no doubt many others) against you. So you must be aware of it.

What's your take?

I'm super curious as to why you gave up tech (brand) leadership so seemingly nonchalantly.

>>I tried the impossible burger and personally didn't notice a difference.

That makes sense because I reckon you're not actually tasting much meat in the real Whopper. It's just salt and flavours from the other ingredients.

When people say that the beefless 'Impossible Burger' is problematic because it's fully processed ... I say, so what's the difference?

Japan couldn't care less about international criticism. They're as mercenary and as negligent as some of the worst countries in the world. But they do have Shibuya, and an interesting culture, which is very distracting from this core conclusion.
Re:RSS Is Better Than Twitter on Saturday March 30, 2019 @12:36PM (#19530301)
>>> In short, RSS is a feed of (mostly) professionally written articles while Twitter is full of amateurs expressing half baked thoughts in 140 characters. It is unfair to compare the two.

Given that is true, isn't it "funny" that RSS is now non-existent compared to Twitter? ... I despair at the direction of the web.

Re:RSS Is Better Than Twitter on Saturday March 30, 2019 @12:34PM (#19530280)
RSS actually meant, mostly, that you had to have something worthy of RSS'ing ... a blog, an article, something.

Twitter? any old Joe can just post some bullsh!t that marinated in their minds for -0.5 seconds and that just gets added to Twitter and potentially my timeline.

Yes, RSS is far better than Twitter for some uses. Uses that are actually of value.

Re:Boston Dynamics’ new robot stacks boxes [video] on Friday March 29, 2019 @11:46AM (#19522664)
Looks ridiculous ... but I get it. The first computers look fairly ridiculous now.

It's called Leadership.
Re:Open-plan office is the worst. Why can't we kill it? on Thursday March 28, 2019 @06:46AM (#19510931)
I have nothing to do with Basecamp, but I understand they're primarily a remote company. I think you're misunderstanding how their space is used.
Re:Open-plan office is the worst. Why can't we kill it? on Thursday March 28, 2019 @06:44AM (#19510926)
You sound like someone who couldn't give a sh!t about someone completely focused on a hard problem.
Re:YC Interviews in India on Thursday March 28, 2019 @06:15AM (#19510793)
Absolutely. No offence, but we wouldn't touch the states with a bargepole for all the reasons you mentioned.
Re:Open-plan office is the worst. Why can't we kill it? on Wednesday March 27, 2019 @12:35PM (#19502696)
Did you read the part about 'Library Rules'? It's a cultural leap, but that would make all the difference.

Christ, I'm sitting in an open plan office right now with two telephone conversations going on in my right ear.

Thank the hardware overlords for headphones ...

Re:Artificial meat: UK scientists growing 'bacon' in labs on Saturday March 23, 2019 @10:15AM (#19470518)
Me too. Except for the part where unscrupulous companies then get on board, take it to regulatory limits and beyond ... and make fake meat ... well ... even faker, and dangeorusly so.
Pretty weak argument, I'm afraid.

Practically everything pales into insignificance in the face of hunger, disease and war. Let's just give up on everything!

And I note your positive points on ads, and agree. But come on, generally they're absolute sh!t. They slow the web down, they interfere with productivity, they deceive, they aren't clever. One in 1000 is actually funny. They're crap. I could go on.

"Intentional" ....

It was beneath the top trending hashtag on twitter. Initially, it was absolutely not obvious what the video was that kept appearing. Sometimes it would auto play.

Obviously rapidly it became clear what was going on ... and then it was a basic game to escape ... and then to just switch off social media.

Honestly ... there are some f@cking weird questions asked about this subject on HN.

Do you mind if I ask your age and general location? I'm really curious.
