I'd rather have a way to quickly ID what deltas were generated and which were not but that will never happen if it becomes a weapon to ban a project.
Re:NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook on Friday July 17, 2026 @04:03PM (#48951701)
I wish the PDF support was better. I want to see the source of the generated summary 90% of the time and that's not happening with PDFs.
Re:Split Brain Psychology on Saturday August 13, 2022 @04:51PM (#32453662)
schizo-effective disorders can also be based in trauma. It sounds like you don't know much about schizophrenia if you're disturbed by the association.
this is even worse in automotive ECUs. this shortage is only going to make things more difficult to test and forget about securing.
I can't even convince security professionals to install Signal, let alone something that requires installing a specific client configuration that may not be identical across platforms. If it's not e2ee by default I'd rather just stick to my current social graph.
Re:Are daily standups hurting your team? on Wednesday November 03, 2021 @12:09PM (#29096607)
What does good daily mentorship look like?

I ask because I tried to set up daily checkins with my junior dev if only to make myself available to them.

What do I do when they just go radio silent for a week?

Re:Thank you, GitHub on Wednesday November 03, 2021 @11:45AM (#29096265)
You might be reading the anti-corporate sentiment into that comment.

It seems more directed towards the public space of Twitter and Facebook where corporations have enough rope to hang themselves in the town square.

Re:How to get back into a hacked Facebook account on Tuesday October 19, 2021 @03:15PM (#28922329)
Using a third party app like Infinity for Reddit lets me subscribe to subreddits anonymously.

Reddit has been read-only for me since the Digg migration so I lose nothing and give nothing.

Re:You can't tell people anything (2004) on Friday October 08, 2021 @04:10PM (#28803632)
Yah, i don't expect everyone to run their own server but luckily joinmastodon.org walks anyone through the process of finding a smaller instance.
Re:You can't tell people anything (2004) on Wednesday October 06, 2021 @03:41PM (#28777401)
I suggest you find a smaller instance to join to have a more cultivated feed.

I'm the only user on my instance so everything I see is there because I subscribed to it.

Re:You can't tell people anything (2004) on Wednesday October 06, 2021 @03:39PM (#28777375)
I don't even have a Mastodon account and I can explore servers remotely just fine.

https://mastodon.social/explore

I might misunderstand what you mean by explore.

Re:The web browser I'm dreaming of on Tuesday June 29, 2021 @07:11PM (#27682953)
i want a web browser with javascript execution permissions builtin.
Can I use this on hacker news?
Re:Twitter confirms Twitter Blue on Friday May 28, 2021 @04:57PM (#27320419)
"communication"
Re:Twitter confirms Twitter Blue on Friday May 28, 2021 @04:57PM (#27320406)
yey, now do this for facebook and twitter.
Re:Has UML died without anyone noticing? on Sunday April 25, 2021 @01:44PM (#26934704)
GitLab supported Mermaid.js rendering for a while but last I checked that was broken. That showed the most promise for a practical use of UML.

I have no idea what that article is trying to get at about multi-dimensional diagrams. I can make masala in UML, there's literally nothing stopping me.

Re:Social media addiction linked to cyberbullying on Thursday April 01, 2021 @12:44PM (#26662872)
https://joinmastodon.org has 500k active users this month, 1 mil the last 6 months.
Re:Social media addiction linked to cyberbullying on Tuesday March 30, 2021 @03:00PM (#26638849)
I've been using a chronological order social media for a couple of years now and I wouldn't trade it for a sorting algo. Sure, I miss some things that are likely interesting and sometimes I need to mute some that post too often. I think content tagging is what people were really asking for when they got "optimized for engagement."
Re:How Facebook got addicted to spreading misinformation on Thursday March 11, 2021 @01:07PM (#26427037)
everything feeds the basilisk.
Re:How Facebook got addicted to spreading misinformation on Thursday March 11, 2021 @12:06PM (#26426307)
Platforms that stick to chronological order are growing without the influence of this strategy.

Mastodon has been doing very well by simply offering the Email of social media.

Why is it not a good solution for those that don't know what `ssh` is?
They should own their social media again instead of leasing out their IP to FB for little to no exposure.
Signal is the bare minimum and can run along side Element and ActivityPub just fine.

If you want to avoid Google Play-Services then Element and ActivityPub are much easier to use.

A $5 VSP server hosts all the social networking I need and it's owned and controlled by me.

I think people overestimate the value that Facebook gives them because of the social graph it holds ransom.

Re:Products vs. Protocols: What Signal got right on Wednesday February 10, 2021 @08:54PM (#26097333)
If they can undercut the resource consumption of Matrix then I'm already sold.
Re:Products vs. Protocols: What Signal got right on Wednesday February 10, 2021 @08:54PM (#26097328)
Nice, which clients?
Re:Products vs. Protocols: What Signal got right on Wednesday February 10, 2021 @07:20PM (#26096669)
It looks like Snikket is trying to pull together the popular opensource implementations of XMPP ecosystem as one product.

It would be a lot easier to tell people to connect to a Snikket server for their Snikket messenger rather than Element messenger to connect to a Matrix server where I've completely lost their attention.

Re:NYT reporter falsely accuses tech investor of using a slur on Monday February 08, 2021 @05:34PM (#26071193)
The longer I live the more comfortable I am with my inevitable death. At the very least it will mean that my disappointment in sapiens will someday have an end.
You don't need to buy a Stadia controller to play Stadia.

It's free with an optional subscription for games and 4k.
