Re:Facebook's seized files published by MPs on Wednesday December 05, 2018 @02:45PM (#18611750)
It doesn't matter where the data came from - uploaded, downloaded, generated. If it is PI it is the property of the identified user, not Facebook's. If they slurp 100 images of my face then that data is mine and it is my right to have it deleted and told who they shared it with and for what.
To use it the same way the US does?
It was an iPhone. They aren't safer than android you know. Just different.
They are also guilty of deaths by nuclear weapons.
"Israel uses deadly force against civilians [they think might be] engaged in acts of force against Israel" would be closer to the truth. Missiles doesn't check if everyone near are bad guys before exploding.

Then the right should have no need to use the service?
Re:Madrid bans polluting vehicles from city centre on Sunday December 02, 2018 @02:35PM (#18584063)
Not much of a twist really since Germany (the state) owns part of VW and they also want to protect jobs.

Only scooters right? Bikes / motorcycles 2 stroke are dead and gone.
I don't know about them all but the games I have bought that use other platforms than Steam I bought on Steam and they got installed with the game (like uplay). I'd say the ship is full of water and being pulled along by Valve's tug.
But Valve doesn't charge premium prices..
Re:Google Tried to Patent My Work After a Job Interview on Friday November 30, 2018 @08:36AM (#18568950)
So now we are pointing fingers at Google every day? Are they the new Muslims or Russians?

>If your country has "democratic" in the name

"The United Democratic States of North America not including Canada" would be quite the name.

Re:Apple entrepreneur camp (for WLO) on Tuesday November 27, 2018 @11:49AM (#18543921)
Go to apple.com with a non-Safari browser in iOS to see why.
Re:Antitrust, the App Store, and Apple on Tuesday November 27, 2018 @11:46AM (#18543879)
Are you okay with Microsoft doing the same thing then or do other rules apply for non-Apple?
Re:Antitrust, the App Store, and Apple on Tuesday November 27, 2018 @11:41AM (#18543831)
> iOS than Windows

Unless you mean Windows on a phone that is completely irrelevant. Unless (when) Apple starts putting only iOS on PC's.

Re:We are Google employees – Google must drop Dragonfly on Tuesday November 27, 2018 @11:25AM (#18543663)
I'd say it sounds exactly like the google we know.

People want a messenger app? Let's make one! Oh, it takes time and energy. Let's shut it down. Oh wait, people want a messenger app. Let's make one. Oh, it takes [........]

Well, Apply has dropped the ball on camera quality some time ago.

The secret: They are not made by a US company. It is called "Propaganda" outside the US.

Re:Apple Launches Portal for U.S. Users to Download Their Data on Thursday October 18, 2018 @03:32PM (#18251401)
As this is HN I wouldn't think it necessary to state that that is how it is supposed to work.. but it never does. You should know that. It will be abused.
Re:Apple Launches Portal for U.S. Users to Download Their Data on Thursday October 18, 2018 @03:30PM (#18251387)
>who any of this data might have been sold to

They have to share who they shared your data with on your request.

Re:Apple Launches Portal for U.S. Users to Download Their Data on Thursday October 18, 2018 @03:28PM (#18251373)
>There were no unpleasant surprises

Did you verify you got 100 % of the data they had/have on you? Or was the problem of verification a surprise to you?

The only interesting thing about this is left out. Who planted it is clear (someone told to do so) but not a single time is it questioned who they planted it for. Smells like false flag to me.

We think China does X Y and Z but we know the US does X Y Z and the rest of the alphabet. So unless something specific is leaked that shows who actually ordered this, logic would point at the US.

Re:Tesla Model 3 receives a perfect safety rating from NHTSA on Thursday September 20, 2018 @07:00PM (#18036074)
Do they really only give out stars or am I missing something??

Without a number like 96/100 or something that shows how they came to the star rating it is nearly useless. Otherwise you can easily game the system. Got a crappy car in passive security? Just ad lots of active security! The consumer needs to see exactly how they came to the end result. That is like 3rd grade math.

Here is a much better view of a test from the old Model S with numbers that actually mean something:

Re:How to Tell Us a Secret on Thursday September 20, 2018 @06:51PM (#18036030)
It is not irrelevant. If you can't build the binary from code yourself you have no way to know if it is trustworthy. Step one in finding out if it is is to look at the source and then compile it. After that you can look if it does strange things because of something you missed in the code but without step one you might as well not start at all. It will always be at most guesswork.
>telemetry part is much more restricted

Are you saying that Microsoft is collecting less information than Google would in the same situation? I find that very hard to believe looking at Microsoft's history. Do you have anything to back it up? The only comparison I can come up with is Windows 10 versus ChromeOS.

Re:US imposes new tariffs on $200B of Chinese goods on Tuesday September 18, 2018 @02:37AM (#18013005)
I find it funny and scary that the US think they can win a trade war. The only outcomes I can see is 1) China wins 2) it ends in war because why the hell not. Everything the US does ends in war.
Toyota is just as far ahead as Tesla. Electric cars isn't better than hydrogen. Just different. And Toyota can sell 1000 cars and have less problems than one Tesla.
Five eyes? At least they all have a say in what happens even though they don't listen to anyone but their friends. How about the 14 lapdogs?
This has nothing to do with users coming from Windows. Mac users aren't smarter than users of other OS's. Windows 10 with a walled garden like Apples is safer than a Mac.
