Asking for a source from llms is so eye opening. I am yet to have them link a source that actually supports what they said.
RIP Vernor Vinge. Somehow, his ideas seem more and more relevant.
My understanding is if an employee who gets paid largely in tips isnt making more than min wage, that employee is almost always let go or quits. Employment layers dont love trying to prove a case that is pretty unlikely to be provable.
As far as I can tell, its the second or third or fourth most universal term behind chatgpt (to describe all llms), llms, or ai.
It also tends to be the one folks who do not really like ai use. I've been using it because it is a lot more fun, and faster, than saying llms.
> Most parents just watch TV, stare at their phones and don't want to be bothered by anything that requires effort
The point is that students are doing worse, even though ^ is likely true today just like it was true 5, 10, and 20 years ago.
RIP to the legend. He has a lot of really fun ideas spread across his books.
Boo. Feels like this post should be flagged. Without a way to join, its just promotional.
Why did you design it that way then? Actually asking, not taking the piss.
I get very annoyed when llms respond with quotes around certain things I ask for, then when I say what is the source of that quote? they say oh I was paraphrasing and that isnt a real quote.
At least wikipedia has sources that probably support what it says and normally the quotes are real quotes. LLMs just seem to add quotation marks as, "proof" that its confident something is correct.
I dont know about that! In theory it sounds good. I know a company that hired a very good hands on cto who then hired 5 50k entry level engineers that was largely the extent of their team for 1-2 years. Then they started to hire more senior people.
I'm sure the cto did a massive amount of training early on but this is a near billion dollar company in a fairly complicated industry. You dont HAVE to have 4 incredibly senior super engineers as your first hires. It might make coding easier early on, but its going to make hiring much much harder.

This is undervalued. So frustrating in ruby that this doesnt exist or at least isnt easy.
Me too. I had a grandparent with AOL dial up until about 5 years ago. I was shocked when I visited her house and realized it.
The slippery slope is the one the payment processors have been sliding down for a while. Steam and itch dont want to pull these games. They dont have a choice.
Yeah... There are improvements to be made by increasing the context window and having agents reference documentation more. Half the issues I see are with agents just doing their own thing instead of following established best practices they could/should be referencing in a codebase or looking up documentation.
Which, believe it or not, is the same issue I see in my own code.
I believe this has been talked about a lot. Musk wasnt thrilled about this change but Tesla is, like it or not, the most recognizable electric car company in America. If you are dead set on going electric you are likely going to at least look at what Tesla has to offer. Because of that, the tax credit going away will impact them far less than other companies that people have to go out of their way to learn about and search for.
Now does a lot of that change because people might not buy teslas because they dont like Elon? Maybe? Who knows.
The Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza has about 600 calories in it. Maybe slightly indulgent, but that is a very reasonable reward and trade off for getting kids to read more.
Palantir Technologies is named after the "palantír" from Lord of the Rings. Famously, a well-used and safe technology.
Yup. As engineers, we MIGHT care about code quality. The end user just cares if something works in the way they want/expect it to. A lot of large successful companies have rough code quality.
I would if they were more affordable or consistently offered a pay $1 to view this one post option.
My local news paper is $17 a month for digital or $45 a month for print and digital for a paper that prints three day a week. I know news isnt cheap but... I just cant justify that for what is a pretty OKAY newspaper. They mostly repost national news and cover local elections or town issues. Oh and lots of ads or "Partner articles"
I'm glad they exist but if they went away, which I'm sure they will eventually, I wouldnt really miss it.
$10 a month could be reasonable. I know they must have done the numbers but I imagine there are a lot of people like me who want to support x news org but just cant justify the only very limited payment options that are offered.
Yeah, up will go to the previous prompt. Down will go back to the "current" one, right?
Copilot in vscode is so bad about typescript errors as well.
Thank god. I was shocked that there wasnt a bigger outrage last week when github decided that copilot was going to have premium request limits. I'm guessing we will see a much larger outcry when people hit their request limit a week into this month/billing period.
Glad there is some competition.
> ChatGPT and Gemini literally only know the answer because they read StackOverflow. Stack Overflow only exists because they have visitors.
I mean... They also can read actual documentation. If I'm working on any api work or a language I'm not familiar with, I ask the LLM to include the source they got their answer from and use official documentation when possible.
That lowers the hallucination rate significantly and also lets me ensure said function or code actually does what the llm reports it does.
In theory, all stackoverflow answers are just regurgitated documentation, no?
I lost one parent to cancer but the other has been cancer free for over ten years now. I'm devastated by the lose of one parent but incredibly grateful for the one who beat their cancer.
Is that winning? I dont know. But the likelihood that my other parent would still be around if they got their same cancer now is already higher than it was when they passed. Nothing can bring my other parent back but we can prevent others from losing their loved ones.
Need For Speed: Underground 2 and I think a decent chunk of other NFS were open world and really fun. Driving your car around in a driving game should be fun.
I guess it's all up to interpretation, but having a brand in one space doesn't necessarily translate to a brand in another. OpenAI doesnt/didnt have a code editor. Now it does/it will.
I'm fairly into llms but it took me awhile to try cursor because the cost of changing editors is very high. I'd probably eventually try a OpenAI editor but only if I saw it was actually getting adoption and good feedback from others.
I'd also argue that while this llm powered editor space is pretty new, the editor space in general is much older.
Yup. I found cursor to be better but not good enough that it really made that much of a difference in my actual day to day.
Yup. Even a small market share is market share. Plus they are paying to acquire a team of folks who are already in this space and who will, until golden handcuffs come off, keep working in this space. Still an insane number though.
