I’m not sure if they still do but you used to be able to hold two passports simultaneously. One that was ‘clean’ for countries that didn’t recognise Israel and another for Israel.
>What I'm seeing now is not serious or good or science.

Or entertaining.

Re:Intel apologises in China over Xinjiang supplier statement on Thursday December 23, 2021 @01:14PM (#29664634)
That’s an incredibly serious claim to make, do you have evidence to support your claims?
Re:Is Singapore's war on drugs working? on Wednesday December 22, 2021 @02:21AM (#29646410)
Nobody in history has mugged someone to raise funds for a six pack and a pack of smokes
Is that due to capacity at ports being restricted by lack of downstream capacity (ie trailer availability)?
Re:Julian Assange can be extradited to the US, court rules on Friday December 10, 2021 @12:20PM (#29512554)
> The establishment is the enemy, not each other.

The problem with the premise that the establishment is a lot like The Matrix. Some people are so hopelessly enamoured with the establishment that they will do whatever it takes to defend it.

Only after CNY, the super-spread event that turned this global.

What is especially galling is that for all his hardline rhetoric and complete lack of respect or fear for the rest of the world Xi is terrified of the reprisals at home if he banned CNY travel.

Re:Ask HN: Would You Work for Amazon? on Wednesday November 17, 2021 @12:42PM (#29256191)
No, the way they treat the lowest rungs on the ladder is atrocious.

Then there’s what they’re doing to commerce, they’re Walmart 2.0. Slowly and methodically choking the life out of every other retailer.

Finally there is Bezos, who whilst not running the show anymore is an incredibly unsettling and dislikable ‘human’.

Re:Business Essentials on Wednesday November 10, 2021 @11:28AM (#29176542)
True but how often is the battery the issue in an enterprise environment? In my experience devices are seldom in circulation long enough that they require a battery swap.

Port damage and clumsy or messy employees are far more likely to cause issues.

Alas Zoom does provide politicians with the gravy train and photo ops that they require to ‘do’ anything.

I believe the U.K. government is the guarantor on all student loans in the country.

If so, it could be argued it’s legitimate for them to only offer loans based on courses that offer the taxpayer a return on their investment.

Re:Ask HN: Can Firefox be revived? on Friday October 22, 2021 @04:26AM (#28954845)
How much RAM do you use? My wife’s 8gb and my 16gb Macs have never seen Firefox get especially RAM hungry
Could you put you resume up somewhere, anonymized with an email address you could be contacted on?

If you’re happy with 90-95% WFH we’d be happy to take a look and see if you’re a fit for us based solely on experience.

Re:Australia to acquire nuclear submarine fleet (AUKUS) on Friday September 17, 2021 @05:37AM (#28563147)
A submarine is not a nuclear powered weapon, or even a weapon unless they’re going to be using them to ram adversaries
You enjoy Apple pretending to be environmentally friendly all the while demonstrating they are no such thing? Why?
>There's no reason the state should say one person's personal choice to follow a religion

Religious people don’t see practicing their faith as a choice though, they see it as an obligation. Watching college ball is as tedious as religion but never an obligation

Re:I Got a 'Mild' Breakthrough Case on Sunday September 12, 2021 @03:44PM (#28504233)
Bad driving begets bad driving. Some jackass cuts you up dangerously, your adrenaline is pumping and you then follow too close behind a third driver repeat ad nauseam
Re:10th Walgreens to close since 2019 in San Francisco on Tuesday June 01, 2021 @02:10AM (#27351175)
Building more prisons?

I know it’s not in line with current thinking but there is evidently enough criminality out there to justify custodial sentences and current prison capacity should not have to be a consideration when sentencing.

Re:California's math overhaul focuses on equity on Tuesday June 01, 2021 @02:03AM (#27351143)
Could this trigger an expanded exodus from California?

We’re fortunate enough that we don’t have to contemplate sending our kids to public school but if we weren’t this might be a push factor in those kind of decisions.

It also gets the actual foundry a pretty sharp knife to cut through the pesky red tape/law when they do start looking for prospective sites.
I find this schtick to be incredibly shortsighted at best and stupid at worst.

If the Dems do this now, it gives the GOP cover to do the exact same thing in 4-8 years and the whole process will be repeated ad nauseam.

Re:China passes Hong Kong “patriot” election law on Tuesday March 30, 2021 @05:08AM (#26632506)
Wasn’t the offer PM Johnson made to HKer’s without any wealth/asset caveats?
Bad journalism, whether by general incompetence or malice usually gets promoted.
Re:Tesla's new steering yoke isn't retro, it's a safety risk on Thursday January 28, 2021 @12:51PM (#25945667)
It’s basically modelled on a GT/WEC racing wheel with much fewer buttons for distraction.

Without knowing actual characteristics about the updated car handling and setup any comments on safety are idle speculation

I’m mildly irked by this but only because there will be more than a few people who will believe this to in response to the dreadful letter from Third Point.
Re:The Data Show That Socialism Works (2019) on Tuesday January 05, 2021 @09:48AM (#25646035)
Scandinavian countries also aggressively push back against socialist/socialism labels that US talking heads and politicians try to pin to them.
It sucks and Apple is really over protective with this stuff so just change the name.

If you’re feeling brave/stupid, try calling it something like Khat.
