Svoka

None of the is loaded on startup. It takes additional time to load any of those features after 5 seconds of starting up.
Honestly, I have no idea what business Steam has starting for whopping 5 seconds as it is right now (after the 'speedup').

It is a simple shell for launching already downloaded apps. This is disgrace and nothing to boast about, especially considering Valve takes 30% cut of basically PC gaming marked for making it.

Indeed. Russians gonna russian, but I want accountability from platforms allowing it.
Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Monday October 12, 2026 @10:20AM (#50056840)
Sure, no one know nothing but you.

Listening to russians they are, in fact, the force of good in the World, not a colonial power profiteering from extinguishing hundreds of peoples across Asia and occupying half of Europe for good part of 20st century, not at all.

What next? Bolshoi theater and tolstoyevsky?

Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @05:06PM (#50047811)
Yandex is a state propped and state owned cosplay of western civilization, similarly to all other aspects russia.
Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @05:01PM (#50047773)
No wonder internet is so nice today. Hope they'll keep it up.

It is also arm of fascist government comnmitting outright genocide with war which affected tens of millions and over million victims.

They absolutely censor all Ukrainian content, proactively collaborate with russian 'law enforcement' and just plain out owned by state.

Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:47PM (#50047655)
poor russia[ns], lost so much because of all the genocide they're doing.
Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @03:08PM (#49997401)
Which one is bloat or locked-down here?
Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Monday October 05, 2026 @12:04PM (#49966689)
Honestly, how do you experience those two? Because my personal experience is opposite.

What does it mean for you for a product to be 'locked down'? Mac OS has amazing range of customizability, with endless options to change it with APIs and third party apps. So far I didn't encounter behaviour I don't like and wasn't able to change. What is your list? Or it means something different for you?

And what does "bloated" means for you? I understand what it means in regards to Windows. It constantly gives me options I didn't ask for. Like when I press Start button I feel like I am at the Time Square with ads and stuff I didn't ask for yelling at me. I don't have such expericense with macOS. And apple intelligence fits right in - if you don't ask for it it won't show itself.

Are we looking at the same stock? I am confused where this data is coming from. What I see is stock slightly higher than it was week ago, fell compared to day ago, and the change is 1-2%, way less than you 50% fall claim.
Re:QR Codes That Route to the Appropriate App Store on Thursday September 24, 2026 @12:44PM (#49833306)
I thought it was something clever, but it shows as URL in QR Scanner, not an APP, which opens browser after activating it, then user would have to confirm redirect to App Store on empty page

TL;DR: it is HTTP redirect based on User-Agent header

Re:Meta VR Glasses on Thursday September 24, 2026 @12:42AM (#49826337)
From description I thought this is more 'View on a Virtual TV' rather than a full VR thing, I may be wrong. This is good, because I, honestly, find that a lot of my VR time is sitting or lying down.
Re:VSCode's SSH Agent Is Bananas (2025) on Thursday September 24, 2026 @12:36AM (#49826303)
I am honestly surprised there wasn't a big VS Code Extension targeted npm attack.
Re:Heretic removes restrictions from language models on Monday September 21, 2026 @12:56PM (#49789911)
IMO, this is the reigning champion for the best-named AI/LLM project to date
Re:One-Electron Universe on Sunday September 20, 2026 @07:16PM (#49781118)
Whole idea is nonsensical with modern understanding of quantum fields.

It is from 40s, when understanding wasn't there yet.

Re:One-Electron Universe on Sunday September 20, 2026 @07:13PM (#49781106)
It doesn't. It is theory for times proceeding QFT or modern quantum mechanics and nonsensical in its context.

It is like saying that meter is same everywhere. Electron is a quantized energy level of electron field, a measurement.

Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @07:36PM (#49705729)
Woo! WiFi icon changes into Ethernet when it is connected and prioritized. Nice. Long overdue.
Re:Neo Emacs – Emacs from the Future on Monday September 14, 2026 @04:08PM (#49703193)
Does the "Watch Demo" button do anything?
Brutalism? More like 'Back to school' vibes to be honest
Re:Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @07:16PM (#49635950)
* 12 deaths per 100,000 per year, but 4 people go to jail for it

* 2 deaths per 100,000 per year, but no one goes to jail

Because apparently going to jail is important for some reason?

Honestly, choosing jail is somewhat dystopian IMO

Re:The Rust React Compiler is now native in Vite on Friday September 04, 2026 @05:46PM (#49570614)
what the point? Rewriting in Rust is not just a language change. Rust enforces designing systems in secure way to start with, not just memory safety.

For me last nail into becoming part of the crowd was Embassy. Whole my life I wrote some ad-hoc C microcontroller stuff. But just learning Embassy I realized that it could've been done much more elegantly and securely. If you have a spare moment, I would watch videos in this channel, old to new:

https://www.youtube.com/@therustybits/videos

Can someone explain why they don't just add black bars on the side and show in filmed format?
Re:Decoy Font on Thursday July 16, 2026 @02:01PM (#48937980)
So... CAPTCHA?
That is not how orbital mechanics work.
there is a default three.js control panel. By default it has speed at 25x and 'Follow Earth' checkmark, which makes camera do weird things.

Re:Xsnow "protestware" in Debian on Sunday July 12, 2026 @09:01PM (#48886596)
Sorry, I won't shed tiers for russian nationalists while Ukrainians die.

Why would I value invaders lives over that of their victims? I still haven't seen a russian 'opposition' do anything than play victim card while their army butchers people. Or Ukrainians must die protecting their homeland while russians be like 'oh no, putin scary, we just sit home and pay taxes'?

No resistance, just compliance.

For context: this is one more experimental confirmation of Dirac's equations (incorporating special relativity into quantum physics).

Very cool.
