Hah, there are tens of millions of professional developers out there. The majority of them use Windows and don't have a C++ compiler installed. Look outside the bubble ;)
Yeah right, my PC happily sends 2560x1600 picture to my monitor over DVI right now. All HDMI ports I've seen are limited to 1920x1200.

Can be, just seen the number of 125 in some study. By surgeon I meant a PhD doing operations on humans, but I guest somewhere it means a a nurse.
Re:A genetic code for genius on Saturday February 16, 2013 @10:37PM (#5234092)
Change is the only way forward. If the Western civilization refuses to accept the facts of life and change itself, it will become just an interesting topic in the history books.
Re:A genetic code for genius on Saturday February 16, 2013 @10:22PM (#5234067)
There is a huge difference based on ethnicity. The average IQ for Ashkenazi Jews is 125, while say the people from West European origin have around 100. That's the difference between somebody capable of doing good job in construction and someone capable of becoming a surgeon.
Re:BBC Attacks the Open Web, GNU/Linux in Danger on Saturday February 16, 2013 @10:17PM (#5234057)
My bad.
Re:BBC Attacks the Open Web, GNU/Linux in Danger on Saturday February 16, 2013 @10:14PM (#5234051)
Well, I'd say any person with a bit of practical experience will understand that the way BBC (one of the most influential medias in the world) policies are set is not by hiring people and letting them work based on high morale criteria. I have myself worked for BBC, all the important decisions in the department I was with were run trough and ultimately dictated by some Lady, that was the boss of some media fairness committee. That committee was privately funded, completely outside of public control.

On the Internet politics in UK, just look at the laws the Parliament passes. All the traffic in UK is now logged by the providers and available to the government agencies. There are a few black lists. The government is spending a ton of money on the Cisco, IBM, Oracle systems also employed by China and Saudi Arabia.

Get a clue, the Windows setup says something like "Do not install without a license"
Re:BBC Attacks the Open Web, GNU/Linux in Danger on Saturday February 16, 2013 @02:43PM (#5232704)
What are you trying to say exactly??

iPlayer itself displays a ton of warnings that you need a TV license to use it.

Re:BBC Attacks the Open Web, GNU/Linux in Danger on Saturday February 16, 2013 @02:39PM (#5232690)
The guys who control BBC are not employes of policy or any other BBC department. The old boy networks in UK currently see the open Internet as extremely dangerous and will do almost anything to monitor/limit/regulate/restrict it.
Re:Heroku Blog: Routing Performance Update on Saturday February 16, 2013 @02:34PM (#5232676)
Right, I'm interested in XYZ, so that is what the top post should be ...
Do some more study before living stupid comments - all Monstanto DNA patents are code fragments from living organisms. This corporation is insanely evil, get a clue and stop defending it.

Does it support IE7?

Yeah, a desperate attempt to break independent from the Hollywood/TV crooks.
Re:We should only work 25 hours a week, argues professor on Sunday February 03, 2013 @10:07PM (#5162229)
Seriously? How many 70 year old people do you know? Let say you need to urgently take your child to a doctor and can choose between a 30 yo and a 70 yo. What would you do?
Re:We should only work 25 hours a week, argues professor on Sunday February 03, 2013 @10:03PM (#5162218)
Exactly, nowadays the majority of people in the developed world are "working" in marketing, finance and other useless areas. It would be far better if they just stay home.

Right, on to registering letmeddosthatforyou.com :D

Does this work with https sites? I'd like to stop online banking sites from logging me out every few minutes.
Re:Why Is Barrett Brown Facing 100 Years in Prison? on Saturday February 02, 2013 @12:21AM (#5155268)
Why? Are you playing naive? Information today is the ultimate power, those surveillance systems are operated by the most powerful people in the world. A guy takes actions against them, how shocking he's getting punished.
Re:Elon Musk: Boeing 787 battery fundamentally unsafe on Wednesday January 30, 2013 @12:58AM (#5138320)
Bill Gates never said that.
Re:LibreOffice 4.0: The big changes will be under the hood on Monday January 28, 2013 @01:03AM (#5127382)
It's impossible (without an AGI :) ) to reproduce all the features and bugs in something as complex as MS Word, so import/export will never be perfect. Just have a look at the "standard" docx format specification.
Re:LibreOffice 4.0: The big changes will be under the hood on Monday January 28, 2013 @01:01AM (#5127377)
IMHO there are two reasons this is unlikely:

1. MS has always been the king of "on paper" features. That was an important reason back in the 80s and 90s for Word, Excel, PP to win the market.

2. MS Office is by far the most profitable software product in the world, while Libre Office is not the coolest open source project. Which means a lot more developers on the MS side.

Re:This is How Wrong Kurzweil Is on Tuesday January 22, 2013 @01:57PM (#5098872)
"seems totally ridiculous" is a ridiculous argument. Human brain being very bad at estimating exponential processes. Do you have anything more scientific?

Any way there are gonna be big changes in the near feature. Either the current progress in data, energy, etc. will stop/drastically slow down or in a few years will have what it takes to build AIs and move planets around.

Re:This is How Wrong Kurzweil Is on Tuesday January 22, 2013 @01:53PM (#5098856)
Uff, 1st theory =/= hypothesis, 2nd if the brain quantum computation in microtubules is true, 10^19 computations per kw/hr is not going to be nearly enough.

Right, CIA and NSA never said they are not going to store the images, so it's perfectly fine with you ...

Re:Tizen - new Android competitor on Friday January 18, 2013 @08:38AM (#5078520)
A year or so ago I was contracting with a military supplier. The company makes rugged Windows CE handhelds and was looking at jumping to Android. $15 per device was the quote they got from Google.

Now that you mention the number of activations, it's obvious Samsung is not paying that price.

Re:Naked-Image Scanners to Be Removed From U.S. Airports on Friday January 18, 2013 @06:40AM (#5078177)
I have no idea who this guy is, but often "alternative medicine" is very effective. In poorer countries it's often performed by smart professionals, who are using experience accumulated over centuries or even millennia - what plants help what conditions, etc.
Re:Naked-Image Scanners to Be Removed From U.S. Airports on Friday January 18, 2013 @06:33AM (#5078159)
Why exactly do you feel you have to make lame excuses for the government? We live in the information age and information now is the ultimate power. The high level politicians and bureaucrats are clearly maniacs when it comes to power. IMHO there is no doubt that all information that can potentially be used in a power struggle, such as Rapiscan scans, is not destroyed, but stored by some government agency. Those scans can be used to reliably identify tents of millions of people.
