Re:There's a 100% Chance AI Agents Are Ruining the Internet on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @01:27PM (#49715804)
I stopped reading papers, journals, blog/internet posts, books, etc written after 2022 unless lots of people repost it as high quality (and even then i take caution because how do i know it is not agents just lauding random things in convergence?).

My time reading older (e-)books has skyrocketed.

I basically stopped using reddit, threads and hacker news.

I recently noticed I need to stop watching youtube videos made after 2024 too. This is especially a problem with shorts and reels on instagram. a few days ago I watched a short describing some random spiderman comic lore, and it was full of errors. The errors aren't even always about being referencing the lore correctly. Sometimes these AI videos will make a claim and then never explain it or even contradict it.

I cant even read some manga recently because I am pretty sure some mangaka are using AI a lot more than they claim they are. The recent one piece chapters since egghead have unreal pacing, and I am not even sure if the storyboarding is made entirely by oda anymore. By unreal pacing I mean this, some one piece arcs 15 years ago would be 24 chapters, but in recent arcs, just one fight or character talking takes 13 chapters! The pacing change is completely different. Togashi of HxH is very upfront about considering/using AI tools, and the quality of HxH has not dropped, so maybe I am being pessimistic.

Wait generics? What changed? Why is golang accepting of generics now?

There are other forms of logic? is intuitionistic logic as rigorous? fascinating

edit: the link says it is a weakening. if it is weakened, how can you prove the same stuff? i am a bit confused but i can see how it is useful for smarter people than me!

it just a lot of complexity and i don't want to deal with it but i have to because of all these dark patterns. sometimes i enable pass key and don't even notice.

it is less useful for physics, math, and music since fluency is so much important.

It is important for language acquisition too, but the language involves a lot more rote memorization than the above.

Re:U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6 on Friday June 26, 2026 @04:06PM (#48691335)
it kinda seems like openai is doing this willinglyy and not challenging it. if they weren't doing this willingly, how would this be legal? has congress already passed a law giving the executive branch regulatory powers like this?
It is surprising that the Claude web app lags pretty easily when using either chromium or firefox on ubuntu linux. Chats that delay my laptop work without issues on my ipad or iphone using the app.

The web app is definitely a bit of a problem. IF there is a native app on desktop or if claude cli is much faster, i haven't tried them.

huh it is actually the opposite direction, low recall and high precision.

once again getting the right answer on the internet is posting a wrong one assertively :) thanks

You would probably get the right person in a list of candidates that would be too long to be useful.
Re:Claude Managed Agents on Thursday April 16, 2026 @04:06PM (#47798774)
not necessarly agentic

i use comfyui to generate cartoons for some comedians

i also have an n8n pipeline (there is an agent here) that mines social media for certain topics and audio

i also use gemini to transcribe audio from sets and to generate scripts

i am working on a clipmaker because I find opus pro and others to leave out context and audience reactions too often.. i will just upscale in topaz anyways.

That might be the defense. They are inherently designed to leverage insider trading though. I made a top level comment with links/resources that argues why.

Isn't the entire point of prediction markets to surface insider trading as a feature and not a bug?

Re:Claude Managed Agents on Wednesday April 08, 2026 @02:16PM (#47694147)
i get paid in vibes and chilling as well for some similar agent stuff i do for content creators.

quick question, how do you manage these side projects that kinda need to be production ready but aren't you are actual SF job lol?

some of these people think they are my actual customer/client but like i do it for fun and to help them out.

thanks for sharing.

i met an associate working for a particular VC and they were really into time series foundational models. I argued the most of the "Why real forecasting problems break the whole frame" as to why they were wasting their time at that time.

she was totally convinced i was wrong because she was discussing investing with some top and well respected researchers that were really pushing this and wanted to make a startup around it.

i was and am still confused as at all the wishful thinking. then again, sometimes the best time to sell an idea is right before you think it is possible.

> No transcription, no frame captioning, no intermediate text.

If there is text on the video (like a caption or wtv), will the embedding capture that? Never thought about this before.

If the video has audio, does the embedding capture that too?

I lost most of my respect for g...n when i noticed he he was one of those IQ guys
Re:ATMs didn't kill bank Teller jobs, but the iPhone did on Thursday March 12, 2026 @11:22AM (#47352051)
Doing it on the go via the app is much easier than using the web app through the main OS browser just because the UI is optimized. not a problem with using the web app approach, just that there isnt as much investment in it due to zeitgeist i guess.

Also since you are already using 2FA, you are already on the phone so might as well do basic operations there.

I can also look at transactions in my bed before going to bed so that is nice.

If I need to look at a support ticket or look at transactions more deeply, i still use the desktop approach.

Re:Defeat as Method on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @04:11PM (#47328208)
it is a good thought. hits deep as well. though, i found it a bit troubling the rejection of one's roots because exalting the past could put less emphasis on the present or the future. i don't think that is universal; partly an erasure mindset. but i understand it in context of the article.
WebView is the worst experience I have on any smart phone or mobile app.

The fact that there is no option so that any webview by default opens in safari across all app in ios is horrible.

i am not surprised it is riddled with security holes.

I rarely see tech hero worship pushback on here. I hope to see more of it.

We are all human after all.

Re:Anthropic ditches its core safety promise on Thursday February 26, 2026 @11:15AM (#47168041)
Effective altruism came from the "rationalist"

It was never about helping poor people.

For some reason, the rationalist movement and its offshoots are really pervasive in silicon valley. i don't see it much in the other tech cities.

Re:New accounts on HN 10x more likely to use EM-dashes on Wednesday February 25, 2026 @04:37PM (#47158263)
I got similar accusations recently on reddit lol. Just because i am used to formatting markdown i like to format some of my reddit comments. i have no idea how to avoid the accusations besides typing less formally except by typing like thisss.

Re:Apple Accelerates US Manufacturing on Tuesday February 24, 2026 @06:17PM (#47144882)
Thanks! I wonder how they enforce retention of personal data if a user adds identifying data and they use a model from anthropic or wtv like others said. maybe that is the wrong question at all if they are using their own models but i thought they didn't. Apple's AI strategy on the whole sounds coherent to me but the specifics are super confusing.
I haven't heard that word used as a metaphor or hyperbole since I stopped playing on call of duty in 2014...

Weird that the hacker news community wants to stick to it. Yall need to grow up. Because I know you would not use it as a metaphor or hyperbole at work.

Defending it makes you look immature.

Re:Apple Accelerates US Manufacturing on Tuesday February 24, 2026 @04:34PM (#47143428)
I understand apple's push for US manufacturing in general but what do they mean by AI servers? I thought apple's current AI strategy is using other AI models?
why use that specific word though?
AI is what??

i disagree. content is great. hitting back button messes stuff up for me. a long form article is preferred for me but maybe this is better for people used to swiping.
