Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:43AM (#50300258)
I think yes. But I think it would be a really individual decision based on a few factors. I say at $150 and an easy return why not try since you have been on the fence?
Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:41AM (#50300251)
They just show up as a DP over USB-C monitor, so they work natively in any OS or phone etc. I don't really think you would have any problem with them in a public setting.
Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:39AM (#50300235)
The ones I linked have built in diopter adjustment, but if it's insufficient you can get clip in lens inserts.
Re:The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:12PM (#50294312)
They can certainly work for that, they are quite clear and sharp, but sometimes you can get a sample with a soft spot on the lens, in that case return and try again is my only suggestion. I bought only 1 of these from the eBay link I sent last year when they were slightly cheaper and got a perfect sample on the first try.

I actually used them like this when I was stuck in bed after a back surgery for a couple weeks, plugged into my laptop.

They do make a newer model now that is actually fairly stripped down in terms of functionality but is supposed to have the best clarity, the VITURE Pro 2 XR, and new they are only $300, and you can get a 10% off coupon for their site, so they are $270 new which isn't bad at all.

Many companies are making these glasses (Xreal, Viture RayNeo, Rokid, etc). They are all fundamentally the same thing. Same micro OLED panels and similar optical design. But they keep adding more features like better head tracking, better built in audio (I just use my AirPods Pro 2), built in cameras, more on-board processing for 3D stuff, that just makes the price go higher, so it's nice to see they still make a new pair with stripped down features for those of us who just want a basic display and for fairly cheap still.

I think you just need to try it to see for yourself if it works for your use case. The return policy is really good.

I like glasses like these, but just for a simple use case.

I picked up a pair of factory refurb VITURE Pro XR for $130 and they are fantastic for watching movies from my phone on a trip, or playing games from like a steam deck.

They really are native 1080p 120Hz micro OLED screens. Fantastic contrast and brightness.

I don't care at all about the head tracking or passthrough or any of that stuff. To me they are just a simple fixed floating huge high quality screen that I can use on the go.

I'm also able to watch 3D movies on them with of course zero crosstalk and that's pretty neat too!

If anyone else is interested in trying these types of glasses here they are for $152 (with coupon SHOPNOW15) certified refurb from the original company with an excellent 30 day return policy.

It's a misconception that the immune system builds future resistance from past infections?
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:36PM (#50277551)
Not sure, but I bet most mobile app developers are MacBook users haha.

I mean it's a $400 up-charge over the same model without touchscreen. Not that unreasonable if you are a heavy app developer IMO.

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:32PM (#50277465)
Their demo is also mobile app development using touchscreen for testing apps in the simulator.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:32PM (#50277441)
I mean it seems like a good idea to me for mobile app development, being able to touchscreen the simulator.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:30PM (#50277409)
Even when developing a mobile app and using the simulator, you never wished you could touchscreen the simulator?
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:29PM (#50277389)
I mean it's only $400 more than the LED non-touch screen.

Seems like it would be useful for app development being able to do touchscreen for the iOS and iPadOS simulators.

Since when have you not been able to easily find a free youtube video for this?

The 512GB option actually has a better chip with 1 more CPU core and twice the neural engine...
That seems high. 14 hours of my salary (pretax) goes to my rent.
If code doesn't do what it says, isn't that a compiler issue?

In 2017 Vsauce did the experiment in real life and only 2 out of 7 people pulled the lever. Obviously a small sample size, but yeah.

The real question is why are the spokes always wrong?
Re:Passkeys Are Not a Trap on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:17PM (#50090104)
Maybe, but ultimately a website/service wants active users, and making it too hard to log in from different platforms or reset your auth and get back in is not going to get them more users or better user retention.
With what Google has been doing to Chrome, and given that I use iOS, I would definitely use Safari on Windows cause I trust Apple more with Privacy, plus the session/tabs/auth/bookmark/applepay etc integration between my phone and Windows laptop/desktop would be great!
Re:Passkeys Are Not a Trap on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @11:59AM (#50089749)
I don't think I have seen a case where using a passkey stops me from using my password on another device/platform that doesn't have access to the passkey.
It even used to run on Windows...
Could they please make Safari for Windows again?
Can't wait for a real eyePhone.

Shut up and take my money!

I completely agree. I am still writing code by hand because I find it enjoyable and almost therapeutic.

My 14 TB HGST drives were $135 3 years ago on that site, and now they are $360... I don't see how this is any good sign.

I bought my 14TB drives 3 years ago for $135 each and now they are like $300...
