You can just renice/set Low priority to the process for the CPU part, no need for Docker. Bandwidth limiting functionality should be built-in, not sure if it actually is.
Re:Fed increases target rate to 3.75-4.00% on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @03:03PM (#33441252)
If it wasn't a problem, Biden wouldn't tour Iran, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia to get their oil and wouldn't open the national reserve. Nations literally live and die by the oil.
Re:Fed increases target rate to 3.75-4.00% on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @02:57PM (#33441165)
It's not gone but -35% YoY certainly doesn't look good. Especially when it's the 'better' medium-sore oil that is getting depleted faster:

There is a lag.
Re:Mastodon gained 70k users after Musk’s Twitter takeover on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @02:02PM (#33440280)
I'm saying that censorship is ingrained in the Mastodon culture and is considered normal and necessary. Considering that Pleroma is also technically superior, I don't understand why one would prefer Mastodon over it, except popularity which is not a merit.
Re:Mastodon gained 70k users after Musk’s Twitter takeover on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @12:08PM (#33438123)
You are literally one search query away from it making sense:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28495086

http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-2737/FP_6.pdf

There was a huge uproar about it a couple of years back.

EDIT:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Mastodon/comments/jkiw1y/can_someon...

Gab was "banned" in that the vast majority of instances blocked it and blocked any other instance that didn't do the same.

If that's not censorship, I don't know what is. You can have your sandbox but you can't play with others unless you accept their censorship rules and politics.

Mastodon engages in censorship unlike Pleroma: https://pleroma.social/
You're right. Apparently, it's supported only by MSVC at the moment (Standard Library Modules): https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/compiler_support

Re:Tell HN: YouTube's web UI just got even worse on Friday October 28, 2022 @10:40AM (#33371907)
They should rename it to just Tube without You to better reflect the reality.
Thanks, for some reason I thought they aim at comparable usecases.
How does it compare to Clickhouse regarding speed?
People and industries do not generally operate at nighttime, especially in more conservative societies. How exactly could this be an indicator of economic efficiency?

Re:Reading Soviet Sci-Fi at the End of the World on Tuesday September 27, 2022 @09:55AM (#32995284)
Fifties and sixties weren't really collectivist (neither was any time except for the war communism of 1918-1921 for that matter). Individual citizens had private property.

Re:Reading Soviet Sci-Fi at the End of the World on Monday September 26, 2022 @11:02AM (#32984041)
Well, it was actually written after the revolution and the so-called "War communism" phase of the 1918-1921 Russia. To me it's more of a study on how the collectivist "paradise" would work after it works out its growing pains.

Re:Explaining modern server monitoring stacks for self-hosting on Wednesday September 14, 2022 @07:28AM (#32835690)
You already need to deal with 3 things as opposed to one and learn PromQL to boot. If you want to have dashboards you also need to learn and use Grafana. I used both Prometheus+Thanos+Grafana stack and Zabbix in production and can say with certainty that the latter is much easier to use and set up for infra monitoring than the former. You need a whole dedicated observability team to use Prometheus effeciently.
Re:Explaining modern server monitoring stacks for self-hosting on Tuesday September 13, 2022 @07:14PM (#32831345)
Prometheus and other modern application monitoring oriented timeseries solution stacks seem to be an overkill for simple server infrastructure monitoring, Zabbix is easier to setup and use and has all the batteries included.

More of a nihilism and anomie IMO aside from the usual cult of the golden calf which is not philosophical in nature.
Re:Half of Japan's LDP lawmakers had ties with Unification Church on Thursday September 08, 2022 @03:49PM (#32771074)
This speed implies they knew about the state of affairs a long time ago but couldn't speak then, so that's not much of a credit to the country.
