Re:The SEC Should Block Anthropic's IPO to Protect the Public on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @10:16AM (#50353055)
The companies managing ETF's aren't stupid. A lot of them changed their rules to exclude SpaceX and may very well do so for Anthropic, if they feel that it is far too risky.
Re:The SEC Should Block Anthropic's IPO to Protect the Public on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @10:08AM (#50352953)
There are rules for raising money as a startup, namely Series A, B and C funding rounds. To participate in these rounds you need to be an accredited investor (meet specific income or net worth criteria set by the SEC) which insure that you can weather the storm.
Re:Intel stock collapse worsens as $3.5T chip rout spreads on Monday November 02, 2026 @09:31PM (#50347256)
There isn't a single country in the world that can make advanced chips on its own. It takes machines, raw materials an chemicals from over a dozen different countries.
Blame evolution. For 99% of our 300,000 year history, starvation not obesity was what killed homo-sapiens.
Exercise does very little for weight-loss. You can fill up on calories far faster then you can exercise them.
The biological drive for high calorie food and fat reserves are the problem in a environment where food-scarcity is not an issue.
He is protecting a wanted fugitive, that's something.
Their public messaging claims that LLM's may already be self-aware, may replace most of the workforce or even eradicate humanity but for legalese, it is just a dumb computer program. Can't have it both ways!
If they already have a health specific model why aren't the others instructed to forward health related queries? Sounds to me, they are just trying to cover their ass; "Your honor, it is not our fault she didn't use the correct model"
Re:A Mathematician Reads the AI Future on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:57PM (#50237653)
The importance of "proof" in math is to discover the reason and see if you can generalize or apply it somewhere else. A uncomprehandable proof is completely useless.

They aren't programming robots. A lot of students, especially the ones who have not been taught from an early age the importance and rewards of knowledge, simply aren't interested in learning.
Re:A Mathematician Reads the AI Future on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:46PM (#50237584)
Are you certain it was Claude's "ideas" and not someone's research you aren't aware of?
Not likely. The Insurance industry will train their own A.I that says whatever they want it to say.
The problem is that insurance won't authorize unless the doctor has a good reason to suspect a rare decease with expensive tests. Even then they will verify that the doctor has followed protocol and gone thru all the cheap tests first.

A old brick-wall building is basically a pretty shell protecting a wood frame.
The biggest problem with MOND is that it was hand-crafted with additional parameters simply to fit the data. What's missing is a reason or a mechanism by witch gravity stops following the inverse square. Scientists generally take a dim view of such theories.

"With four parameters I can fit an elephant, and with five I can make him wiggle his trunk." John von Neumann

Unfortunately it is very common for people to spend 10 minutes using their "common sense" to find some simple explanation that seems to have defied the Scientist, rather then spend that time to read a quick article that explains the foundamentals.
It is notoriously difficult to observe the galaxy from the inside. We know much more about other galaxies then our own.
Re:How Corruption Got This Bad on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @08:29PM (#50174563)
This is the reason why Congressional terms are only 2 years and why Senate elections are staggered. Of course nothing helps if the majority decides "f checks and balances"
This is most likely gonna end up on the Supreme Court docket. The defense is hoping that instead of making a judgment, they just punt it on a technicality such as this.
I only drive 300 miles a week. The problem is, I live in a apartment and there are no chargers at my workplace.

Time to feed my beloved pet snake.
Farming and domestication may have sounded boring even in the bronze age but I can assure you, without those we would still be hurling pointed rocks at each-other.

The Hagia Sophia or the Sagrada Família took more then a lifetime to build but they were usable for their intended purpose, long before they were finished.

Oxygen is a highly efficient electron acceptor. Anything requiring tons of energy to power a big brain will scarcely find a suitable replacement. The same properties that make it a good source of energy, also make it dangerous. Most of the metabolic stress comes from oxygen. It is a double-edged sword.
This sounds like a plan to make rented properties a more liquid asset and make rent cheaper. Seems like a sound idea to me.
Re:Why Were Victorian Elites So Effective? on Thursday October 08, 2026 @08:04AM (#50004817)
The system was already set-up to their maximum benefit. Their corruption was in making sure nothing changed, no matter the clamoring of the vast majority.

The open-weight models are a great boon to all American companies other than a handfull of Mega Corps in the A.I business. Care to explain how this is "economic warfare against the U.S"

Nobody should be debugging code by hand either but when all the tools fail, its time to get your hands dirty.
Re:So You Think You Could Be an Electrician? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @12:18AM (#49950589)
For effect. You want the client to feel that they got their money's worth and it wasn't something they could have done themselves.
